Description

Patented Sept. 30 1952 UNITED: jsTATEs PATENT'IQFHCE n l MEDICATED radio1irritav i Joseph-J: SlzuderskirGlendav'le, N. Y.
27, 1950, v's'rial 1510.197317 t pplication November This invention relates to improvementsin del'vices for the infant and child'.` .Y y
"is to provide pacifler' of `special construction so as to accommodate a container which holds a substance for An' object' of this invention consumption by a child, for example medication including vitamins and others, the container being foraminous or porous'and'readily replaceable and the nipple being provided with a number of apertures whereby the contents of the container may be drawn'therefrom'while the infant or child is using the pacier as such. y
Ancillary objects and' features of importance will become apparent Ain following the description of the illustrated form of the invention.
In the drawings: Figure l is a perspectiveview of the device; Figure 2 is an explodedel'evational View of the device showing the component parts thereof;
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken substantially von the line 3-3 of Figure 1 and inthe direction v substantially on the line 4 4 of Figure 3 and in the direction of the arrows.
Attention is first invited to Figure 2 where the component parts of the improved pacier are shown separate from each other. There is a nipple i6, a guard l2, a sleeve I4, a container It, fastening band I8, plug 2li and ring 22. a
The component parts of the device are assembled as disclosed best in Figure 3.' The nipple I0 is disposed on the outside surface of the sleeve I 4, the outside surface of this sleeve being provided with circumferential teeth 3U which constitute a means of releasably holding the tube at its open inner end on the sleeve I4. The nipple lil has bead 32 provided at its open end for strength of construction. Y
There are a number of openings 34 provided in the nipple at the end thereof which is normally inserted in the mouth of the child or infant.
The guardi has a central opening 36 0f a size sufficient to allow it to be pushed over the outside surface of the nipple I and yet, the aperture 36 9 Claims (cl. ieee-360i one end' thereof and the plug constitutesa closure for the open lower end of the sleeve I4. The container I6, .which is "adapted 'to contain material for example rubber or plastic, with one or more openings provided therein.
The container `iii has `any open end which isfinserted over the inner end of the plug 2c andviover circumferential groove` 46 formed in the plug.
Them-by using the resilient band which is arranged over the part .ofv thevcontainer onlthe grooverllt, thecontainer is hield.y fixedin placeon the plug inasmuch as the band I8y is of such size as to fit rather tightly in the groove 46 (Figure 3).
In operation a'container I'B with a proper substance in it is inserted over theappropriate partv of the plug 2E?. Then the resilient band I8 is placed on the container in such fashion that it becomes iitted or disposed in the groove 4E.
Thereafter the container is inserted in the sleeve I4 so that a part thereof projects within the body. of the nipple VIl! and the plug 20 is screwedA in the sleeve. With the device in this condition it is ready for use by a child or infant whereby when the child or infant sucks upon the nipple, the normal moisture involved dissolves the material in the container I6. When a liquid is used in the container I6, the container may be made of gelatin, as are capsules which are designed to be taken by adults or chil-dren, the capsules being of the type whereby the casing dissolves after swallowing. v l
When the supply of material in the container i6 is exhausted, the container need only be replaced by a new one having more or a diierent is not so large as to allow the guard to be readily 2. lA pacier comprising a nipple, a porousv container disposed in saidnipple and adapted to hold a substance for consumption by a child, and means securing said container in said nipple, said means including a sleeve with means for connecting said nipple tov the outside surface thereof, means for retaining the container on the inside surface of said sleeve including a plug removably disposed in said sleeve and constituting a closure for said sleeve, and means to fasten said container to said plug.
3. The combination of claim 2 and said last mentioned means including a resilient band, and said plug having a circumferential groove therein withinfvvhichysaiwbandtis adaptedfto bel disposed.
4. In--a `paciiier which includes a nipple-acontainer adapted to hold a substance for consumption, said container vbeing arranged to deliver the substance therefrom, means operativelyonnected with said container and said nipple to hold said container within said nipplerl-incl-uding :a sleeve having a bore, meansfreleasablvsecuring the nipple to the outside surface of said sleeve, a part of said container being disposed insaidbore, and means operativelyconnected with another partof; said;bore=fornholdingzsaid;containerssecured withintsaid'bore.
tainer` adapted ,to.hol'd,asubstance:for. consumpgtion, rsaidfcontainer being arranged-.i0 deliver the substance 4,:therefrom :and means operatively connected With-said Acontainer andv said. nipple` to -holdsaid-containerfwithin/said-'nippletsaid'means including a member -having--circumferentialteeth on 4the outside surf ace-thereof and a parto'fthe Ynipple looatedon said circumferentialteetn -and aguard disposedon-sa-idni-pple andlocated above saidteeth whereby theyguard isfheld Vfrictionally on-theiiipple. y
6. In ajpaciiying device, 'anipple,- a `cpntainer adapted Wto hold a,.,substanc e for consumption, lsaid'ycontainergbeing so constructed as todeliver `the ;substa-nce jtherefrom, said `container being 4 t located at least in part within the nipple, means releasably retaining said container Within said nipple, including a rigid member disposed in said nipple, van element removably disposed in said rigid member, said element having a groove therein, a part of said container being disposed above said groove, and means removably disposed in said groove fastening a part of said container to said element. v
@7. Thefpcombinationfdfgclaimd and a part of the'outside-suriace of said-nipple constituting a means for holding a guard removably secured :to said nipple.
8.Inya pacifying device, a nipple, a container adapted 'to hold a substance for consumption, esaidicontanerbeing so constructed as to allow delivery of thesubstance therefrom and being located'atdeast-part Within the nipple, means retaining;r said container in said nipple.
9. A pacier comprising a nipple, la; porous Y centamer.,disnosedinsaid nipple, means securing said container in saidnipple in spaced relationl, ship .to the.Wallsoff.the nipple, :and said container vb.eingy, ariapteditofJ;iolda :substance for consump- .tion'bytachild l v r,JYOSEl-Ilf J..SZUDERSKI.
