Description

Oct. 7, 1952 MOORE TOWEL OR CLOTH HOLDER Filed Aug. 15, 1950 E A m W H W//////7/// /////////A M Q I l- M M I q uv V E L D NU ,2 mgEwV Patented Oct. 7, 1952 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
This invention appertains to towel or cloth holders and especially to a means for supporting a plurality of holders.
The primary object of the instant invention is to provide a supporting means for a plurality of separate resilient holders which are formed with slots or slits providing gripping jaws for holding cloth articles.
Another object of this invention is to provide a wall mounted support for a plurality of separate resilient discs which are grouped on the support in such a manner that each holder can, at all times, be used.
Another object of this invention is to form each resilient holder from a disc having a slot or slit formed therein which slot is provided with reinforcing means.
These and ancillary objects and structural features of merit are attained by this invention, the preferred embodiment of which is set forth in the accompanying specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein;
Figure 1 is a front elevational view of the support with the holders mounted therein;
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view of Fig. 1 on the center linej Figure 3 is a front elevational view of one of the holders with a section of the circumferential edge broken away to illustrate the means for mounting the holders on the support;
Figure 4 is a transverse sectional view of one of the holders, and
Figure 5 is a side elevational view of one of the holders.
With more particular reference to the accompanying drawing, the device I0 includes a support I2 and a plurality of resilient holders I4, which are mounted in the support. The support 12 is molded from a suitable thermo-setting plastic or stamped from a sheet of thin metal and is concavo-convexly shaped. Openings I6 are formed in the center portion of the support and may be arranged in any desired relation but the triangular arrangement, as illustrated, is preferred since then all of the holders may be used at all times without the articles being twisted or caught together and with each article hanging removed from the others for faster drymg.
A small opening [8 is formed in the center of the support to accommodate a headed fastener 20, whereby the support is afiixed to a wall 22 with the convex side facing outwardly. The opening 18 may be dispensed with by securing the end of the shank of the fastener to the center of the concave side or by forming it integrally therewith so that it extends therefrom.
Each of the holders l4 includes a circular resilient molded disc 24, having an enlarged or reinforced circumferential edge or rim 26, which is formed with a peripheral groove 28 adapted to engage on the edges of the openings it, as seen in Figure 2. Normally, this frictional engagement will securely mount the discs in the openings but adhesive may be placed in the grooves to insure a secure mounting. Of course, the discs could be made non-circular with only a change in the openings I6, cut in the support, being required to mount them in the support and, for cheaper manufacture, the rims could be left without reinforcement and cemented to an inwardly facing flange formed on the edges of the openings 16.
The disc is provided with a diametrically disposed rib 30 on its outer face 32, and the disc and rib are slit to form the slot 34. The slot is reinforced by the split sections of the rib which function as gripping jaws, as seen in Figure 2. As noted therein, the edges of a towel or similar cloth article are pushed into the slotted rib and through the slot 34, with the outer edges of the rib sections flexing inwardly and yieldingly clamping on the edges of the article.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:
1. A cloth holder comprising a support having openings with edges formed therein, means for mounting the support on a wall, resilient discs having grooved circumferential edges, said grooved edges being mounted on the edges of the openings in the support and said discs having reinforced slits extending transversely therethrough.
2. A cloth holder comprising a support having openings with edges formed therein, means for mounting the support on a wall, resilient discs supported by the support and having ribs formed on their outer faces, said ribs being slit to form reinforced slots for receiving and yieldingly retaining articles, and means for mounting the discs in the openings, said last means including reinforced circumferential edges on said discs and grooves formed in the outer surfaces of the edges receiving the edges of the openings in the support.
