My present invention relates to carrying cases and more particularly to heated carrying cases.

It is a well-known fact that certain musical instruments such as those using reeds and valves do not operate properly when cold. It is necessary for a musician to wait for his instrument to Warm up to room temperature if the instrument has been subjected to cold Weather as when being transported from one place to another in winter time.

Cold temperature alters the tonal pitch of these instruments and considerable time is wasted waiting for the instruments to get warm enough to operate properly.

Having these difliculties in mind I have designed a simple apparatus which speeds up the warm-up operation so that the instrument is conditioned right in the carrying case before it is taken out.

The principal object of my invention is to provide a heated carrying case for musical instruments.

Another object is to produce a heated musical instrument having therein a heating pad and an extensible electric cord which may be extended and retracted from the cover of the case.

Other objects and novel features comprising the construction and operation of my invention will be more apparent as the description of the same progresses.

In the drawings illustrating the preferred embodiment of my invention:

Fig. 1 is a plan view of the carrying case in an open position.

Fig. 2 is an enlarged fragmentary view, partially in cross-section of the lower right-hand corner of the cover portion of the case, and

Fig. 3 is an enlarged fragmentary elevation of the side of the cover adjacent the lower righthand corner.

Referring more in detail to the drawings, indicates the body portion of the carrying case. This body portion of the case may be fitted with various abutments etc., to accommodate the particular type of musical instrument to beused in the case. The over-all proportions of the case may vary. Some cases may be rectangular and others square or any other shape desired.

At II I have provided hinges joining the body portion In to a cover portion l2. The depth of the body and cover portions may vary to suit conditions.

To the inside of the top cover portion I have fixed U-shaped electric cord lugs l3. Mounted over the lugs I3 is an electric heating pad I 4 having eyelets l5 adapted to engage over the lugs l3 for the purpose of holding the pad [4 in place in the cover portion I 2. Within the pad M is located a heating coil l6 having an electric cord l8 leading out through the pad l4. This 2 heating coil 16 and pad is of the conventional type. An suitable heating pad may be used by adding the eyelets l5.

In one side of the cover portion I 2, I have located an electric cord plug receptacle 20 which is provided With a spring cover 2!. When the case is not in operation, the electric cord plug 22 is retracted in the receptacle 2!] as indicated in Fig. 3. Fig. 1 also shows the receptacle closed the plug 22 being inside but not shown. When the case is not in operation, as when in the act of transporting a musical instrument from place to place, the cord I8 is mounted on the lugs 13 as shown in Fig. 1. When it is desired to place the case in operation to heat, the plug 22 is withdrawn as shown in Fig. 2 and engaged in any suitable electric outlet. The cover 2| of the case is now closed and the musical instrument is heated very quickly to the proper operating temperature.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:

1. An improved carrying case comprising in combination, a case having a body and cover portion, a heating pad located in one of said case portions, lugs attached to one of said case portions, said pad being mounted on said lugs, an electric plug receiving receptacle located in one Of said case portions and communicating with the exterior of said case, an electric cord connected with said plug and said pad, the said cord being mounted on said lugs when said cord is retracted within said case.

2. An improved carrying case as set forth in claim 1 in which said pad is held in place in said case by means of eyelets located through said pad and engaged over said lugs.
