The object of my invention is to provide a cardboard box having novel end flaps for fastening the bottom end of the box together and other and different novel flaps at the top of the box for fastening the major portion of the top of the box together while providing other flaps which form a pouring spout which can be opened to empty out the pop corn in the box.

I attain the objects of my invention by the box illustrated in the accompanying drawings in Which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of an embodiment of the invention with the spout open;

Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the top of the box in closed position;

Fig. 3 is a plan view of the complete blank from which the box is made; and

Fig. 4 is a bottom plan view of the bottom of the box in closed position.

Like characters of reference indicate like parts in each of the several views.

The box I has end flaps 2 having a diagonally edged portion 3 and an approximately square tongue 4. The box I has a bottom side flap 5 with tapered or diagonal edges 6, and a broad tongue 1. An opposite side flap 8 has relatively narrow nearly square extensions 9. To form the bottom of the box, the flap 8 is first folded in and the end flaps 2 are folded over the side flap 8. The flap 1 is then folded over the flaps 2 and pushed inward until flap 1 is engaged under flap 8, thus locking the flaps of the bottom of the box together.

At the top of the box an end flap I0 has a diagonal edge H and a tongue l2. A side flap 13 has a diagonal edge l4 and a slight projection [5, extending in the same general direction as the diagonal edge. The opposite edge [6 has a slight projection ll. The body of the box is fastened by a narrow sealing flap 23. Flap I8 is provided with a tongue l9 to underlie flap l0 and a slight projection 24 at the other end extending beyond edge I6 overlies tongue 21.

To close top, flap I8 is just folded in and the end flap I0 is folded down on top of flap I8. Then flap I3 is folded over and the complete top of box is spread open to allow flap l3 to be inserted under flap I8. On opposite end the flaps 22 are folded in and flap 2| is folded across them and inserted under flaps l8 and I3, and engaged by their extensions 24.

When it is desired to pour out pop corn from the box, the pouring spout element 2| is pulled out and flaps 22 raised, leaving the other flaps on the top of the box closed, so that a limited amount of pop corn can be poured out through the pouring spout. Flaps l3 and I8 have slight extensions 24 to engage element 2!. Slits 25 facilitate opening flap 2|.

The box is especially adapted for holding pop corn but it may also be used for holding any light material and may be readily opened to pour out the contents.

What I-claim is:

A carton comprising opposed side walls and opposed end walls, interengaging flaps formed on the bottom edge of said side and end walls to form a bottom closure, interlocking flaps formed on the top edge of one of said end walls and on the adjacent top edge of each of said side walls, said flaps on the side walls terminating short of the other end wall to form a partial top closure, a substantially rectangular flap formed on the top edge of the other end wall, a pair of auxiliary flaps formed on the top edge of each side wall adjacent said other end wall, the edge of each auxiliary flap adjacent the said other end wall forming with said rectangular flap a pouring spout, said rectangular flap being of sufficient length to engage under a portion of said interlocking flaps for retaining said rectangular flap in closed position, said carton being provided with slits extending downwardly a short distance from the top edge between said other end wall and said side walls whereby said rectangular flap may be moved in a direction in the plane of the top to disengage from said interlocking flaps.
