UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims. l
The invention relates to neckwear and more particularly to ties or other articles of wearing apparel or clothing having a three-dimensional object thereon provided with a separable curtain or cover partially or fully inclosing the object and adapted to be opened to display the three-dimensional figure.
It is an object of the invention to provide a novel neckwear construction having a changeable or variable appearance.
Furthermore, it is an object of the present in vention to provide a new construction of a clothing novelty.
Also, it is an object of the present invention to provide a novel article of wearing apparel on which a three-dimensional object is permanently mounted.
Likewise, it is an object of the present invention to provide a novel article of wearing apparel having a concealed three-dimensional object thereon.
Moreover, it is an object of the present invention to provide a novel article of wearing apparel having a three-dimensional object, member, article or figure thereon inclosed by a separable curtain or cover which may be selectively detachably engaged in inclosing position, or opened.
Finally, it is an object of the present invention to provide a novel neckwear or garment construction incorporating the foregoing objectives in a simple manner.
These and other objects and advantages apn parent to those skilled in the art from the following description and claims may be obtained and the stated results achieved, by the devices, constructions, arrangements, combinations and sub-combinations which comprise the present invention, the nature of which is set forth in the vfollowing general statement, a preferred embodiment of which-illustrative of the best mode in which applicant has contemplated applying the principleis set forth in the following description and shown in the drawings, and which are particularly and distinctly pointed out and set forth in the appended claims forming part hereof.
The nature of the invention may be stated in general terms as' preferably including in neckwear or wearing apparel construction, a decorative fabric or textile base member such as the usual fabric body portion of -a necktie, an intermediate decorative fabric or textile member, means permanently securing the perimeter of the intermediate member to the base member as by appliqueing or sewing, padding means confined between the base and intermediate members to provide a three-dimensional ornamental or decorative object formed by said intermediate member, a decorative fabric or textile outer member composed of at least two sections at least partially inclosing the object, means permanently securing certain remote perimetric edge portions of the outer member sections to the base member, and fastening means detachably connecting adjacent free edge portions of the outer member sections together.
By way of example, a preferred embodiment of the improved neckwear construction is illustrated in the accompanying drawing forming part hereof wherein:
Figure l is a plan View of a portion of a necktie embodying the novel construction with the outer cover member thereof closed;
Fig. 2 is a View similar to Fig. l showing the outer member partially opened;
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the parts shown in Figs. 1 and 2; and
Fig. 4 is an enlarged cross-section taken as on the line 4--4, Fig. 1..
Similar numerals refer to corresponding parts throughout the various figures of the drawings.
As illustrated, the improved construction is applied to neckwear, but it is understood that the same may be applied to any garment or article of wearing apparel or clothing. As shown, the necktie body member I is formed in the usual manner of any usual decorative fabric or textile material. The fabric may be plain in color or may be formed of a combination of colors. Thus the fabric may be dyed, or may have a decorative or ornamental design printed or painted thereon or woven therein. A plain colored tie is illustrated.
An intermediate member generally indicated at 2 shaped to depict any desired object, article, figure or scene, such -as a landscape, an animal, an inanimate object or a human figure, is appliqued to the base member I by stitching or sewing the perimeter'of the member 2 to the base member I as indicated at 3. The seam formed by the perimetric stitching of member 2 to base member I may be formed in any usual manner but is preferably hemmed.
The space or cavity between the base member I and intermediate member 2 before completing the stitching 3 is filled with padding or stuing material such as kapok, cotton and the like, indicated at d, so that the intermediate member 2 forms a three-dimensional object secured to the base member I defined by the perimeter of member 2 and by any desired ornamental or decfaeova orative design applied thereto. Like the body member I, the intermediate member 2 may be formed of decorative fabric or textile material of one or more colors and with any desired design applied thereto.
l:As shown, the intermedi-ate member 2 with padding material I depicts the ligure of a woman generally indicated at 5, but it is understood that the figure of a man, or of an animal, or of any inanimate object, or a landscape, or the like, in three-dimensional shape may be depicted and defined by the member 2 and padding il.
A cover or inclosure or curtain member generally indicated at 6 is provided for partially or wholly inclosing the member 5. The member E -comprises sections indicated at 31 and S, each having a free edge 9 and a secured edge Ill. The outer or secured edge I of each cover member section 'I and 8 is stitched, sewn or appliqued as indicated at II to the base member I throughout a portion of the perimeter of each member I and. Again, the seam formed by stitching I I maybe :any usual type vof seam, Ipreferably a rhemmed seam.
The stitched seam II may conform throughv out a portion of its extent Ywith the adjacent stitched seam 3 between the intermediate member '2 and the basesmember I;or, depending upon the character of the member or object 5 inclosed by cover member 5, the seam II .may be formed without regard to the `outline or contour of the object 5. As shown, the cover sections 1 and 3 are front panels of a garment or dress for the woman 5, and the seam II foreach cover section fl and 8 is formed running from the neck along the shoulder, around the armhole and then along the waist and skirt portions .of the dress to the lower end thereof.
The free, or inner, or unstitched edges 9 of the cover sections I and 3, or a portion of the extent thereof, are detachably connected together by any usual fastening means such Ias by a zipper indicated at I2, whereby the cover member 5 may be closed to partially or completely inclose Vthe three-dimensional object 5, and whereby upon releasing the Ifastening means I2, the three-dimensional object y".5 may be rendered visible. yAs shown, the head and feet of the Woman -5 are not inclosed by cover member 6; butsome other object 5, such as a three dimensional landscape, or an inanimate object might be completely inclosed by .the cover 6. Thus the cover member, as comprehended by the invention, may partially or completely inclose the object 5.
The cover member 6 m-ay likewise be formed or variable appear-ance, and provides a new conp struction of clothing 'novelty having a simplified design.
In the foregoing description, certain terms have been used for brevity, clearness and understanding; but no unnecessary limitations are to be implied therefrom beyond the requirements of the prior art, because such words are utilized for 4descriptive purposes herein and not for the purpose of limitation and are intended to 'be broadly construed.
Moreover, the embodiment of improved neckwear construction illustrated and described is -by way of example and the scope-of the present invention is not limited `to the 'exact details of construction -of the various parts described or illustrated.
vHaving now described the features of the invention, the construction of a preferred embodiment thereof, -and the new and useful results obtained thereby; the new and `useful devices, constructions, arrangements, combinations, and
lsub-cornbinations and reasonable mechanical equivalents thereof, obvious to those skilled in the art, are set forth in Vthe appended claims.
I claim:
1. In neckwear construction, abase member, an intermediate member, stitch means permanently securing the perimeter of theintermediate member to the 4base member, padding material confined between the base and intermediate members to Idepict a three-dimensionalobject, a cover member Iat least partially enclosing said object, the cover member including two sections, stitch means permanently securing the outer edge portion of each section to the base member along a portion of the perimeter of 'the intermediate lmember, said sections having 'adjacent free edge portions, and fastening means detachably connecting said adjacent free edge 4portions of the cover member sections together.
2. In neckwear construction, a fabric "base member, an intermediate .fabric member, stitching permanently securing lthe perimeter lof the intermediate fabric member to the fabricbase member, padding material v.coni-ined by `said stitching `between the fabric 'baseand intermediate members, la fabric cover member for the intermediate fabric member at least partially enclosing vthe vintermediate 'member and padding material comprising atleast vtwo sections, each cover member sectionh-aving afr'ee inner edge and an outer edge, `stitch means :securing the outer edge vof leach section 'to the base member along a portion of the stitching at the perimeter of the `intermediate member, and fasteningmeans detachably connecting adjacent free `edge pportions of the cover member .sections together.
