This invention relates to a mattress and means for fastening a sheet thereto.

It is an object of the invention to provide novel means for a bed mattress and sheet whereby the said sheet may be quickly and securely attached to the mattress to facilitate the making of beds and to prevent the sheet from becoming disarranged.

A further object of the invention is the provision of snap fastener means on a mattress and sheet for facilitating the fastening of the sheet to the mattress upon each of the sides thereof.

Further objects and advantages of this invention will be more clearly understood from the following description and accompanying drawings in which:

Fig. 1 is a plan view of a sheet included in my invention.

Fig. 2 is a perspective view of said sheet in the folded position which it acquires when fastened to the mattress.

Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the mattress embodied in my present invention.

Fig. 4 is an enlarged fragmentary end View of a portion of said mattress.

Fig. 5 is a similar view of the mattress showing the sheet attached thereto.

In the embodiment of my invention illustrated in the drawings the numeral 5 indicates a mattress of conventional form such as commonly used on beds. and the numeral 6 indicates a sheet :for said mattress.

My present invention provides for the mattress a number of straps 1 which are attached to the corner portions of the mattress and which carry fastening elements 8 preferably of a conventional snap fastener type.

The said straps 1 are secured at their ends only to the upper and lower edge portions of the mattress by sewing the said end portions thereto and adjacent to the corners thereof at each side of the mattress so that two of such straps are provided vertically on the mattress at the sides of each corner thereof.

The sheet, which is indicated at 6, is cut out at the corners to provide end flaps 9-9 and side flaps Ill-l9. Each of said flaps is provided with a plurality of fastening elements ll adjacent to their corner portions, which are engageable with the fastening elements 8 on the straps l for securing the sheet thereto.

It will be noted that the straps I are loose in their intermediate portions so that they may be pulled away from the mattress when it is desired to move the fingers between the straps and the mattress for fastening the elements 8 and H. In addition, the straps 1 will serve as handles for facilitating movement of the mattress,

It will be also noted that the elements 8 are placed adjacent the upper and lower sides of the mattress so that, when the sheet is secured thereto, the flaps 9-9 and l0-l0 of the sheet will extend downwardly over the sides of the mattress for substantially the full height thereof to thereby cover the mattress and present a neat corner. Also, the positioning of the elements 8 permits use of the sheet on either side of the mattress.

The fastening elements II at each corner of the flaps may be selectively used to provide a proper fit of the sheet upon the mattress.

From the illustration in Fig. 5 it will be seen that our fastening elements H are used in connection with the lower fastening element 8. In cases where necessary, such as when a sheet is over-sized the upper fastening elements H may be used in cooperation with the elements 8.

If desired, a strap l2 may also be provided in the intermediate portion of each edge of the mattress with the fastening members 8 thereon cooperating with the fastening elements H on the sheet so as to more firmly secure the intermediate portion of the sheet.

It will be understood from the above description that my invention provides a novel and high- 1y eflicient means for securing a sheet to a mattress and for providing a proper fit regardless of variations in the size of the sheet as compared to the mattress within certain limitations.

I claim:

In combination, a mattress, a plurality of flexible elongated straps secured to the free edges: of the mattress, each of said straps being disposed vertically on the mattress adjacent a corner portion thereof, a fastening element secured adjacent to each end of the strap, a sheet having the corner portions thereof cut away and thereby providing flaps extending outwardly from each end and side of the sheet, and a fastening element adjacent the corner portion of each of said flaps engaged with the fastening elements on the straps of the mattress to permit the sheet to be detachably secured to the mattress.
