The present invention relates to a folding infants chair and it consists in the combinations, constructions and arrangement of parts herein described and claimed.

Generally there is provided a folding infant's chair which comprises a back portion and a seat portion hinged thereto for movement about a 270 are. When in closed condition the device may be easily carried by a handle strap and all the various parts of the device are then arranged in a very compact manner. When opened, however, the device may be mounted upon the back of an automobile seat or the like or, on the other hand, may be mounted upon the arms of an arm chair, theater chair or the like. Various novel devices are included in the invention and means is provided for the compact storing of infants needs such as, baby powder, bottles and the like.

It is accordingly an object of the invention to provide a device of the character set forth which is simple in construction and operation, relatively inexpensive to manufacture and yet effective and eflicient in use.

A further object of the invention is the provision, in a device of the character set forth, of a novel combined carrying handle and brace member forming a part of the invention.

A further object of the invention is the provision of novel means for mounting a device of the character set forth upon the back of a chair or the like.

A further object of the invention is the provision, in a device of the character set forth, of novel means for mounting the same upon the arms of a chair or the like.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, there is shown therein a seat member In hinged at one end, as indicated at II to a back member I2. Both the members Ill and II are provided upon their outer side with padding l3 and M, respectively, and on their opposite sides with wells is and {1, respectively. The adjacent edges of the members it and 12 are cut at 45 angles so that the limit of rotation of either member with respect to the other about the hinge II is limited to an arc of 270 and it will be seen that when the device is in opened condition, as shown for example, in Figure 8 of the drawings, the adjacent edges so described will abut one another. The edges or ends are indicated at l8 and I9, respectively.

The padding i 3 or it may consist, as illustrated in Figure 11, of an outer covering 20 which is held against the outer face of the seat or back members it) or l2 as the case may be by means of a plate 2! secured to the member H) or 12 by means of bolts 22. The space encompassed by the plate 2! and the covering 20 may be filled with suitable yieldable material 23.

The free end of the seat member ID has centrally and transversely secured thereto a band 24 having rings 25 loosely mounted at either end thereof and a ring 26 likewise loosely mounted but centrally thereof. A combined carrying strap and brace 21 is provided at either of its ends with a snap hook 28. The hooks 2B are normally engaged in the rings 25 to form a carrying handle for the device which extends through the perpendicularly extending bight portion 29 of a U-shaped support member 39. The legs of the member 38 areeach inwardly directed in that portion thereof which forms the perpendicularly directed portion 29, as clearly illustrated in Fig- 3 ure 9 of the drawings. A U-shaped extension member 3| is provided with inwardly directed hooks formed at the free ends of each of its legs, as indicated at 32. The hooks are engageable over the legs 29 of the member 30 and when it is desired to mount the chair forming the present invention upon the back of an ordinary chair, as shown at 33 in Figure 8, it will be seen that the member 3| will rest upon the top of the back 33 to support the. device.

A substantially U-shaped safety belt 34 is pivoted at each of its free ends, as indicated at 3.5, to opposite sides of the back member [2 and when not in use is aligned closely with theadjacent sides of th back member I2 but when in use may be swung upon its pivotal point 35 to a position above the seat member ID, as: illustrated in Figure 8 at which time the hooks 28 may be engaged in the ring 26 and in a ring 36 centrally mounted upon the member 34.

- A'brace member 31 is pivotally connected, as indicated at 38, to each side of themember- 34 and, when the device is in carrying position, is adapted to lie between the member 34; and the back member l2, as indicated at Figure l of the drawings, but when the member 34 is extended for use, the brace member 31 may be extended downwardly through brackets or sockets 39 affixed to each side of the seat member [0. The free end of each of the arms 31 is provided with a shoulder 40 which is adapted to bear on a stop lug 4| formed integrally with the bracket 39 thereby to support rigidly the member 34'.

When an infant has reached an age where the confining device 34 is no longer necessary and additional or'strongersupport is needed for the seat member when in operative position there is provided a pair of brace arms-42v each provided with an integrally formed inwardly directed u -shaped hook 43 at one end and inwardly directed curvular hook 44 likewise formed integrally at the other end. A notch 45 is formed upon the inner'face of each side of the back member l2 for thereception of the book 43 of one of the brace members while the hook 44 of each of the brace members 42 is engageable under the forward leg 46-01 an arm engaging member generally designated. at 4.1. The members 4'! are each provided with forward legs 46, as aforesaid and rearward legs 48. which legs are laterally slidable in either side of the seat member l0 and which are each bent downwardly so as to be engageable with the outer faces of the arms 49 Ma conventional chair. v

The brace members 42 may bestored when not in use by arranging the same inwardly of a pair of laterally extending screws 49. Within the well 16 there is provided a pair of clip members 50, formed of spring material, and in the outer ends of the clip members 50 the extension 3 I may be engaged and stored when not in use while between the inner ends of the members 50 there may be removably mounted a bottle or the like. 'In an extension recess 52 of the well Hi there is provided a pair of spring clips 53 for the removable mounting of, for example, a. box of baby powder or the like as indicated at 54.

i It will be seen thatthe device may easily be carried by folding the same upon its pivotal hinge H to the position shown in Figures 1 to 3, inclusive, at which time the combined handle and brace member 21 may extend through the member 29. thereby to hold the entire device together as a single unit. In this condition the members 4! are moved totheir innermost positions and the members 3| and 42 are stored within the wells I6 and I1.

When, however, it is desired to utilize the device as a seat, it is only necessary to revolve the hinged parts about their axis II and, to support the same upon the back of a chair, the device 29 is utilized whereas, when it is desired to support the device upon the arms 49 of a chair, the devices 4'! are utilized to support the same. It will be apparent that the wells I6 and I! register with each other when the device is in folded condition and that elements stored in one of the wells may protrude slightly into the other of such wells.

While but one form of the invention has been shown and described herein, it will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art that many minor modifications may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claims.

What is claimed is:

1. A. device of the characterdescribed comprising a seat member, a back member hinged to said seat member, each of said members being provided with a well in the rearface thereof, said rear faces abutting each other in closed condition and said members being revoluble 270 to open condition, a U-shaped safety belt having its ends pivoted to said back member, a strap, means for interconnecting the strap with the seat member and the safety belt, means for connecting each end of the strap with said seat member to form a carrying handle, a chair back-engaging member vertically slidable in the outer end of said back member and having a horizontal portion engageable over the outer end of said seat member when the device is in closed condition, extension means for said chair back-engaging member, bracing means for said seat member, and brace means for said safety belt.

2. A device of the character described comprising a seat member, a back member hingedto said seat member, each of said members being provided with a Well in the rear face thereof, said: rear faces abutting each other in closed condition and said members being revoluble 270 to open condition, a U-shaped safety belt having its ends pivoted to said back member, a strap, means for interconnecting the strap with the seat member and the safety belt, means for connecting each end of the strap with said seat member to form. a carrying handle, a chair back-engaging member vertically slidable in the outer end of said back member; and having a horizontal portion engageable over the, outer end of. saidseat member when the device is in closed condition, an outwardly and downwardly extending chair'arm-engaging member horizontally slidable in each side of said seat member, extension means for said chair back-engaging member, bracing means for said seat member, and, bracing means for said safety belt.

A device of the character described comprising a seat member, a back member hinged to said seat member, each of said members being provided with a well in the rear face thereof, said rear faces abutting each other in closed condition, and said members being revoluble 270 to open condition, a U-shaped safety belt having its ends pivoted to said back member, a strap, means for interconnecting the strap with the seat member and the safety belt, means for connecting each end of the strap with said seat member to form a carrying handle, a chair back-engaging member vertically slidable in the outer endof said back member and having a horizontal portion engageable over the outer end of said seat member when the device is in closed condition, an outwardly and downwardly extending chair armengaging member horizontally slidable in each side of said seat member, a socket affixed to each side of said seat member, a brace member pivotally connected to each side of said safety belt and having its free end receivable in one of said sockets, extension means for said chair back-engaging member, and brace means for said seat.

A device of the character described comprising a seat member, a back member hinged to said seat member, each of said members being provided with a well in the rear face thereof, said rear faces abutting each other in closed condition, said members being revoluble 270 to open condition, a U-shaped safety belt having its ends pivoted to said back member, a strap, means for interconnecting the strap with the seat member and the safety belt, means for connecting each end of the strap with said seat member to form a carrying handle, a chair back-engaging member vertically slidable in the outer end of said back member and having a horizontal portion engageable over the outer end of said seat member when the device is in closed condition, an outwardly and downwardly extending chair arm-engaging member horizontally slidable in each side of said seat member, a socket afiixed to each side of said seat member, a brace member pivotally connected to each side of said safety belt having its free end receivable in one of said sockets, and a downwardly curved generally horizonta1 extension for said chair back-engaging member removably engageable thereon, and brace means for said seat.

A device of the character described comprising a seat member, a back member hinged to said seat member, each of said members being provided with a well in the rear face thereof, said rear faces abutting each other in closed condition, said members being revoluble 270 to open condition, a U-shaped safety belt having its ends pivoted to said back member, a strap, means for interconnecting the strap with the seat member and the safety belt, means for connecting each end of the strap with said seat member to form a carrying handle, a chair back-engaging member vertically slidable in the outer end of said back member and having a horizontal portion engageable over the outer end of said seat member when the device is in closed condition, an outwardly and downwardly extending chair arm-engaging member horizontally slidable in each side of said seat member, a socket afilxed to each side of said seat member, a brace member pivotally connected to each side of said safety belt and having its free end receivable in one of said sockets, a downwardly curved generally horizontal extension for said chair back-engaging member removably engageable thereon, and a pair of removably mounted bracing hooks removably interconnecting said back member and said chair arm-engaging members.

A device of the character described comprising a seat member, a back member hinged to said seat member, each of said members being provided with a well in the rear face thereof, said rear faces abutting each other in closed condition, said members being revoluble 270 to open condition, a U-shaped safety belt having it ends pivoted to said back member, a strap, means for interconnecting the strap with the seat member and the safety belt, means for connecting each end of the strap with said seat member to form a carrying handle, a chair back-engaging member vertically slidable in the outer end of said back member and having a horizontal portion engageable over the outer end of said seat member when the device is in closed condition, an outwardly and downwardly extending chair arm-engaging member horizontally slidable in each side of said seat member, a socket affixed to each side of said seat member, a brace member pivotally connected to each side of said safety belt and having its free end receivable in one of said sockets, a horizontally downwardly curved extension for said chair back-engaging member removably engageable thereon, a pair of removably mounted bracing hooks removably interconnecting said back member and said chair arm-engaging members, said wells havin yieldable brackets mounted therein for the storage of said removably mounted parts and for other paraphernalia.
