This invention comprises novel and useful improvements in a glass and cup washer and cleaner and more'specifically pertains to a power operated rotary brush-device and cleaner'forefflcaciously cleansing glasses, cups and the likeand particularly for effectively cleaning the necks of bottles and the like and for cleansing the" rims of glasses and cups of lipstick and the like.
1 The principal object of this invention is to provide a compact and readily portable device for efiicaciously and quickly cleansing glasses, cups and similar articles with ease and certainty.
'A further object of the invention is to provide a rotary brush cleansing and washing device in which the supply of cleansing fluid and the operation of'brushes may be simultaneously and autoniatically controlled. A still further object of theinvention is to provide a rotary scrubbing device'for the. pur-I poses above setforth; in which the supply of cleansingifiuid from both a hot and a cold source. may be readily mixed in an improved and. com-. pact arrangement; and may be admittedto the cleansing chamber simultaneously with'theoperation of the rotary brushes thereof.
A still further object of the invention is to provide. an improved rotary brush cleanser in accordance with the foregoing objects having improved means for supplying a quantity controlled and temperature regulated cleansing fluid Application November 24, 1950, Serial No. 197,477

Detachablyv mounted upon the supportingplate M, as by fastening screws i6, is a tank unit indicated generally by the numeral l8 and which is provided with a preferably circular side wall 20 and a bottom wall 22, the latter having mar: ginal depending walls '24 which rest upon the supporting plate I4, and defined therewith, a hollow chamber or gear casing 26. Referring now "more particularly toFigures '1 and 4, it will be seen that an electric motor 3! l is detachably secured, asjby fastening screws 32 to the underside of the support plate I4, and has its armature shaft 34 extending through the support plate .andinto-th'e gear casing 26, being provided with a'driving gear 36 therein. Referring more particularly to Figures 2-4=,. it will be seenthat a plurality of rotary brushes are disposed within the tank l8 in the washing chamber 28 therein. Each of'these brushes, designated by'the numerals 38, 40 and 42, comprises a central spindle M which. extends through the bottom wall 22 and into the support plate i4, being journaled in these members as by bushings or sleeves 46 and 48, the spindle further having an annular collar. or plate 50 which is adapted to rest upon the bottom wall 22 of the tank.
Each of the brushes further includes a sleeve 52 which encircles the upper portion of the spindle 44, andwhich. has recessed or countersunk ends which respectively receive a washer or fasteningnut 54 upon the spindle adjacent the collar 50 and a removable clamping nut 56 at the other end of the spindle. The brushes further include a plurality of bristles which extend entirely outwardly about the spindles and beyond the upper end of the same to completely enclose the spindle and sleeve, the bristles being of any desired. configuration, as for. exampla. conical in the case. offthe brushes 38 and 423 and in:-.the form of an inverted cone having a rounded upper end as regards to the brush 40.

The arrangement is snch;that whenever the electric motor is energized, the solenoid operated valve i moved to its open position so that cleansing fluid from the mixing chambers are delivered through the spray nozzle into the tank at the same time the rotary brushes areoperated.

2. The combination of claim 1 including a support having a supporting plate, said tank having depending wall from said bottom wall and resting on said supporting plate to define therewith a casing, said connecting means being housed in said casing.
3. The combination of claim 2 wherein said motor is mounted upon the underside of said supporting plate.
4. The combination of claim 1 including a support having a supporting plate, said tank having depending walls from said bottom wall and resting on said supporting plate to define therewith a casing, said connecting means being housed in said casing, said spindles having their ends journaled in said supporting plate, said connecting mean comprising gears on said spindles connected to each other, said motor being connected to one of said spindles.
