Application July 1, 1950, Serial No. 171,667
' 1 Claim.
This invention relates to improvements in the not wish to have the shape of her own lips reart of- 'applying lip rouge or lipstick by a woman to her own lips. I
The act of painting ones lips by a Woman is no longer just a fashion or style, but is today Consequently a womans lips are almost always painted,-so that in the course of a single day a Woman is confronted with the task of painting her lips manytimes, each time painstakingly painting them as accurately as is possible by her free hand method depending upon her skill and the pains taken. Likewise, in the evening before going out a woman usually paints her lips with a brush in order to get'them perfectly shaped; which act requires a great deal of skill.
and is also time consuming.
By the use of the device of the present invention, the guess in the art of painting ones lips is completely eliminated, and the time necessary to do the job properly is reduced to a minimum. An impression of a womans mouth is taken from which a cast is made. From this cast, a lip-imprinting device is fabricated, which device is a permanent, true copy of the contour of the womans lips. Inthe hands of an expert after the shape is taken from the impression made of the womans lips, the shape may be changed so that if there are any imperfections in the womans lips they can be eliminated; and the lip imprinting device will then be a copy of the womans lips perfectly shaped and styled. This device can be made of any of the common metals, such as steel, aluminum, Duralumin, etc.; of the precious metals such as silver, gold, platinum, etc. or of a plastic or pressed fiber material, or even of a rubber compound, just as long as the material used is inflexible and has the quality of retaining its shape permanently. The lip imprinting device can be made by shaping a wire or a relatively thin strip of material, or by a stamping process whereby the device is cut and shaped from a flat sheet of metal or other material.
A Woman in using the device need only to rub the lipstick alongside the inner surface of the strips which form the outline of the womans lip and then press it firmly against her lips, her only care being to center the device on her lips. The device is then removed, leaving an imprint of the outline of her lips, so that all she need do is paint in the rest of her lips with the lipstick, knowing that by keeping within the outline formed by the device, she is assured of having her lips painted as she desires.
There are many reasons why a woman may produced on the lip imprinting device that she intends to use in the painting of her lips. She may not wish to undergo the expense of obtaining a casting of her own lips and then having a specially manufactured lip imprinting device; or if her lips are not deemed to be pretty or shapely, or if she desres to copy the lips of celebrated beautiful women or actresses. In that event, a woman will be able to purchase at any store that sells cosmetics, an already manufactured lip imprinting device that is a copy of the lips of the famous woman she wishes to emulate, selecting one or more from the many assorted sizes and styles.
Therefore, this invention has a primary object the provision of a device which permits a woman to paint her lips with the skill of an expert with less time consumed in the act of painting her lips than at the present time withoutthe danger of smearing lip rouge or lipstick at the corners of the womans mouth.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a device which is a reproduction of the contour of the womans lips and is the shape desired to be painted by the woman, so that upon using the device the woman is assured that her lips are painted in the manner most desirable and suited to her.
A still further object of the present invention is to provide a device which is molded to the different shapes and sizes of famous women, such as actresses, beauty contest winners, etc., and which may be utilized by the average woman in the application of lip rouge to her own lips.
A still further object of the present invention is to provide a lip imprinting device which assures the user that her lips are painted properly and that the shape painted thereon is always the same as long .as she uses the device of the present invention.
With these and other objects in view, the invention will be best understood from a consideration of the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, forming a part of the present specification with the understanding, however, that the invention is not confined to any strict conformity with the showing of the drawings, but may be changed or modified so long as such changes or modifications mark no material departure from the salient features of the invention as expressed in the appended claim.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a front view in elevation of the invention.
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the device shown in Figure 1. V
Figure 3 is a section taken thru 3-3 of Figure 2.
Referring now to the drawing, the numeral I refers generally to the lip contour imprinting device which consists of a curvilinear strip member 20 conforming generally with the outline of a womans upper lip and a second or lower relav tively narrow strip 2! conforming approximately with the contour of a womans lower lip, with each of the members 20 and 2! being joinedat their ends l3 and M to form the complete out line of a womans lips. The curvilinear strip members 29 and 2! have innersurfaees 23 and 22 respectively and are of uniform thickness along approximately their entire length but have cut-out portions 18, i 8 adjacent each of the junctures ['3 and M. The cut-out portions t8, [8 extend'to the extreme ends-of the curvilinear strip members 29 and 2|. At each of the junctures l3 and M- within the cut-out portions l8, 18 there is a centering member [9, wedge-like in shape secured thereto, which is adapted to-be positioned adjacent the corners of a womans lips as a guide-to ensure theproper centering of the device thereon. Secured to the lower imprinting strip 25, there is a handle 15 extending in a horizontally and downwardly direction from the plane of the imprinting device 19. Although the handle l may be of any shape or configuration, it consists of a double curve IE, H (see Figure 3) to receive a thumb andforefinger of theuser of the device, so that thedevice can be firmlygrasped, yet the reflected view in the mirror of the'userslipsand the imprinting device Hl is not obscured thereby. If so desired, the handle i5 may be hinged to-the device 1-9 so that the unit. may be readily carried ina womans handbag.
Inthenormal useof the lip imprinting device 10, the user w-ill coat the inner surfaces 23 and 22. of theupper andlower strips Zlland 2 with an extremely thin layer of lip rouge or lipstick. Thenthe usergraspsthe handle l5- by means of the thumb andforefinger, as hereinbefore described, and places the device I0 on the lips with thecenteringzmembers I9, I9 adjacent the corners of theiusersmouth. Slight pressure is then applied onthe. device I0, which is then removed from thelips'. leaving .an imprint of aperfe-ct outline of the desired lip shape not including that portion of the lips adjacent the corners of the mouth. It is this portion of the lips that becomes smeared or smudged if the imprint device has imprinting surfaces extended to the very junctures l3, [4 of the upper and lower curvilinear members 29 and -2I. However, very little skill and ability is required to complete the proper outline of the lips at the corners thereof since the impressed outline of the remainder of the lips is there as a guide. Now, the user need only fill within this outline by means of a lipstick to produce with the utmost easiness and perfection even by the lesser skilled woman the perfect lip make-up.
Having now disclosed my invention and realizing that, in view of our disclosure many other modifications in details and construction or design will readily occur to those skilled in the art, we do not choose to limit ourselves as in the appended claim.
What we claim as new is:
A lip outline imprinting device comprising an upper elongated member and a lower elongated member, said members being shaped to conform with the outline of a womans upper and lower lips respectively, means connecting said upper member and said lower member at their free ends, each of said members having an inner surface and an outer surface, said inner surfaces of said members having cut out portions at the junctures of said members, centering means mounted on said cut out portions at each of said connecting means, and an arcuate handle secured to said outer surface of said lower member substantially equidistant from said centering means, said handle extending outwardly and downwardly with relation to said lower member.
