2 Claims.
This invention relates to a combination undergarment for step-in wear, and more particularly to a combination half-slip and panty.
An object of the invention is to provide a combination half-slip and panty wherein the upper edge of the panty is located an appreciable distance below the waist-band of the slip, for thereby providing a single thickness of material over the hips of a wearer, and a double thickness of protective material therebelow.
Another object of the invention is to provide a combination garment wherein the panty is permanently secured to a half-slip by means of elastic thread, or stitching.
A further object of the invention is to provide a combination garment having the hereinabove described characteristics which will be extremely comfortable to Wear, easy to launder and practical to use.
Another object of the invention is to provide an under-garment which includes a half-slip and panty, each of which includes a continuous, individual waist-band or upper portion, wherein said upper portions are permanently spaced apart for suspensibly supporting the panty from the slip below the hips of a wearer.
Still another object of the invention is to provide a combination garment having the hereinabove described characteristics which will provide the wearer with the security and protection afforded when wearing separate panties and slip, but without the tell-tale folds, lumps and wrinkles around the wearers hips which have heretofore proclaimed the presence of such under-garments. The construction of my garment provides a smooth fit over the wearers hips characterized by the absence of wrinkles, folds or bumps attributable to the garment.
These and other objects are attained by the means described herein and as disclosed in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a front view of a combination undergarment embodying the teachings of the present invention.
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view through a portion of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a partial sectional view, similar to Fig. 2, illustrating a modified form of construction.
With particular reference now to Figs. 1 and 2, it will be noted that the numeral Hl denotes generally an under-garment known as a half-slip, which includes an upper or waist-band portion l2 provided with suitable means, such as, by way of example, a length of elastic for enabling the slip to be suspended from the hips of a wearer.
When being worn, upper portion !2 is continuous in the sense that it completely circumscribes the torso of a wearer just above the hips.
The present invention is neither concerned with nor directed to the particular structural details of the slip, it being understood that any conventional half-slip may be utilized.
The numeral 26 denotes generally a panty including a continuous upper perimeter or waistband 22, leg portions 24 and a crotch portion 26. In the preferred embodiment of the invention the upper perimeter 22 is secured to the interior of the slip by means of an elastic thread 28, wherein upper perimeter 22 of the panty is located an appreciable distance below the waist line I? of the slip by an amount to position upper edge 22 below the hips of the wearer.
Uniformly satisfactory results have been obtained when the upper perimeter 22 of the panty is located five inches below waist-band l2.
As clearly evident from Figs. 2 and 3, it will be noted that this construction will provide a single thickness of material, denoted by the numeral 30, over the hips of a wearer, and a double protective thickness below the hips. In this manner I have provided a continuous, single-ply, hip-encircling band 30 which Will snugly and smoothly overlie the wearers hips. By locating the upper continuous edge of the panty below the wearers hips, the bulk of said upper edge will occur below the maximum torso diameter where its presence will be entirely unnoticed.
With further reference to hip-encircling band. 30, it will be noted that it includes a pair of continuous, laterally spaced peripheral edges defined by elastic zones l2 and 2B.
In Fig. 3 I have illustrated my combination under-garment in which the panty has been formed at 32 integral with the slip incident to knitting of the slip.
It should be understood that various changes and modifications in the structural details of the garment may be made, within the scope of the appended claims, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
What is claimed is:
l. A combination garment comprising a halfslip including a continuous, elastic upper edge, a complete panty including a continuous u per edge, means elastically securing the upper edge of said panty to the slip below the upper edge thereof for providing, immediately above said panty, a continuous, hip-encircling band the upper and lower edges of which are defined by continuous, torso-circumscribing, elastic zones.
2. A combination under-garment for step-in wear comprising a half slip including a continuous upper edge, a length of elastic secured to, carried by and circumscribing said upper edge for normally constricting the opening defined by the upper edge of the slip, a complete panty within the slip, said panty including a continuous tubular upper edge, elastic means secured to, carried by and circumscribing the upper panty edge for normally constricting the opening defined by said upper edge, and means securing the upper edge of the panty to and in substantial spaced parallelism with the upper edge of the slip for providing a continuous, hip-encircling band of single thickness immediately above said panty, said hip-encircling band having continuous upper and lower elastic edges which are defined by the upper edge of the slip and the upper edge of the panty, respectively.
