AUXILIARY TOILET SEAT Filed June 2, 1952 i g INVENTORQ ATTORNEY Patented Mar. 9, 1954 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE This invention relates to an auxiliary toilet seat or commode seat which serves a sanitary purpose and is also useful as a nursery training device for young children.
' The auxiliary toilet seat comprises essentially two flexible, substantially tubular, inflatable air cushions, each shaped to conform with the ordinary toilet seat or commode seat opening. These cushions are so joined that one is positioned directly above the above.
An object of this invention is to provide an auxiliary toilet seat which is easily wedged into place on the ordinary toilet or commode seat and is capable of being held against displacement therefrom.
A further object of this invention is to provide an auxiliary toilet seat which is collapsible and useful to those persons who because of travelling make frequent use of public lavatories.
Another object of this invention is to provide an auxiliary toilet seat which is of such a structure that it can be attached to and removed from the ordinary commode seat with a minimum of efiort.
still another object of this invention is to provide an auxiliary toilet seat which is easily and quickly cleaned.
Other objects and features of this invention will become apparent-from the following detailed description.
Fi ure 1 is a view inperspective of theauxiliary toilet seat.
Figure 2 is a view in perspective of the auxiliary toilet or commode seat placed on an ordinary toilet or commode seat.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on line 33 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken on line 44 of Figure 1.
Figure 5 is a sectional view taken on line 55 of Figure 1.
Figure 6 is a sectional view taken on line 6-6 of Figure 2.
Figure 7 is a view in perspective of a portion of the auxiliary toilet seat which also shows a sectional View taken on line 4-4 of Figure 1.
Figure 8 is a view in perspective of the arm support to be used with the auxiliary toilet seat.
Figure 9 is a sectional view taken on a line, similar to line 5-5 of Figure 1, in another embodiment wherein the openings of the respectively joined tubes differ in size.
More specifically, the auxiliary toilet seat consists of a flexible, substantially tubular, inflatable air cushion i having an opening of substantially the same size as that of an ordinary commode iii] 2 seat 3. Attached to air cushion l at the points A, which are on the bottom portion of the periphery of cushion I, is a second flexible, substantially tubular, inflatable air cushion 2, which may have an opening of substantially the same size as, or
smaller, or larger than the opening of cushion l,
the latter as shown in Figure 9 by tubes I00 and 206. The points A are on the bottom portion of the periphery of the cushion l and. are on a plane K which is tangent to the cushion l at said points A and perpendicular to the vertical lines B B which fall on the vertical axis of the cross section of cushion I and on the vertical axis of the cross section of cushion 2. Cushions l and 2 have attached thereto valves 4 and 5 by means of which they can be inflated or deflated. The
cushions i and 2 can be of oval or circular cross section; The cushions 1 and :2 are formed of sheet plastic materials, of sheet rubber, of rubberized fabric, or other suitable material or substance which is fiexible and normally substantially limp, which is waterproof and airtight, which has a smooth outer surface that will not irritate the human skin, and which is easily washable.
Arm supports i0, it (Figure 8) can be attached to air cushion I as shown in Figures 1 and 4. Said arm support means are capable of attachment to cushion l, are formed of any relatively stiif, flexible material such .as plywood or plastic sheet board, and are so made that the base portion l4 maybe fitted over cushion i and attached thereto by any suitable means, such as by adhesives. Base portion M of arm I0 is of the same configuration as the upper half portion of cushion I. These arm supports are utilized in the auxiliary toilet seat for children.
The auxiliary toilet seat is utilized in the following manner:
Air cushions l and 2 are inflated by means of valves 4 and 5. Cushion 2 may be referred to as the fastening cushion. Cushion 2 is then wedged underneath the commode seat 3, and cushion I thus rests on the commode seat or adult toilet seat 3, as shown particularly in Figures 3 and 6, whereby the auxiliary seat is held rigidly in place on the commode seat 3 and is also held against displacement from said adult toilet seat 3. In other words, the auxiliary toilet seat is wedged into opening of the adult toilet seat 3 which rests at the external junction of the two cushions.
Many alterations and changes may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of this invention which is set forth in the appended claims which are to be construed as broadly as possible in view of the prior art.
I claim:
