SNAP 0N ATTACK-{RENT AND SACHET POCKET FOR GIRDLES OR THE LIKE Filed Oct. 9, 19s: 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 mmwox. RENETTE Sussmu United States Patent SNAP ON ATTACHMENT AND SACl-IET POCKET FOR GIRDLES ORTHE LIKE This invention relates generally to girdles and more particularly to removable crotch reinforcing members therefor.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a removable crotch reinforcing member of soft, flexible material, for girdles or the like, the reinforcing member being formed with a pocket adapted to contain a sachet pocket or other chemical substance therein. 1
It is another object of the present invention to provide a removable crotch reinforcing member of the above type having readily releasable means whereby the reinforcing member may be easily secured to or removed from the girdle, facilitating thereby the interchange of the reinforcing members and permitting the easy and ready laundering thereof.
It is another object of the present invention to provide removable garter support strips which may be easily and readily snapped on and off of the leg portions of the girdle in a novel and practical manner.
It is still another object of the present invention to provide a removable crotch reinforcing member for girdles or the like which is disposed wholly within the girdle and which is provided with releasable connections between the reinforcing member and the girdle so located that they cannot in any way produce discomfort to the wearer.
Other objects of the present invention are to provide snap on attachments and a sachet pocket for girdles or the like bearing the above objects in mind which are of simple construction, inexpensive to manufacture, have a minimum number of parts, are easy to attach and efiicient in use.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claim in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawings forming a material part of this disclosure:
Fig. 1 is a front elevational view of a girdle showing the invention incorporated thereon;
Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view taken along the line 2-2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is an enlarged inside perspective view showing the manner of attaching the invention to the inside of the girdle;
Fig. 4 is an enlarged exploded perspective view of the removable crotch reinforcing member and the sachet adapted to be contained in the pocket therewithin;
Fig. 5 is an enlarged vertical sectional view taken along the line 5-5 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 6 is a view similar to Fig. 3, but showing a modi fied form of the present invention;
Fig. 7 is an enlarged exploded perspective view of the crotch reinforcing member and sachet of Fig. 6;
Fig. 8 is a fragmentary vertical sectional view of a modified form of garter support strip prior to attachment to the girdle; and
Fig. 9 is a view similar to Fig. 8, but showing the gar- 2,719,!) 76 Patented Oct. 11, 1955 ter support strips snapped into engagement with the girdle.
Referring now to the figures, and more particularly to Figs. 1 through 5, 10 represents the body portion of a girdle of more or less elastic material and adapted to fit snugly over the lower portion of the torso, hips and buttocks, the body portion 10 being provided with the usual slide fastener, construction 11 to facilitate the putting on and taking off of the girdle. The girdle 10 is also provided with the usual short, leg encircling portions 12 provided at their lower ends on the inside with reinforcing border material or strips 13 (Fig. 3).
In the practice of my invention, a removable crotch reinforcing member is provided and includes a pair of strips 14 and 15, each of the strips being formed from one or more layers of soft, flexible, readily laundered fabric, such as silk, rayon, cotton or the like and secured totogether around their borders by means of stitching 16 and 17, respectively. The crotch reinforcing member is formed by placing one of the strips on top of the other at right angles thereto and securing the same together by means of three lines of right angle stitching 19, 20 and 21, thus providing a pocket 22 intermediate the strips 14 and 15 which is adapted to contain a sachet bag 23 or the like. The reinforcing member thus formed is adapted to fit across the interior crotch of the girdle 10, as shown in Fig. 3.
It will be noted that the ends of the strips 14 and 15 are first flared outwardly from their central portions and are then flared inwardly to a point. Reinforcing strips 24 are provided at the points of both strips and are secured in place by the male snap fastening elements 25. It will be noted that the elements 25 extend outwardly from the side of the reinforcing member having the pocket 22. Complementary female snap fastening elements 26 are provided on the reinforcing strips 13 of the girdle 10 as well as across the crotch portion of the girdle and are adapted to be snapped into engagement with the male snap fastening elements 25 whereby to releasably secure the crotch reinforcing member in position with the strip 14 uppermost (Fig. 5). The construction just described provides simple and effective means for detachably securing the crotch reinforcing member on the inner face of the crotch portion of the girdle 10, with the fastening elements 25 and 26 overlaid by the strips 14 and 15 so as to eliminate entirely direct contact between the wearers skin and said fastening elements. Thus, the strips 14 and 15 when thus attached afford complete coverage of the crotch portion of the wearers body, and whenever necessary, the readily separable elements 25 and 26 permit the crotch reinforcing member to be removed bodily or partially disconnected, permitting the same to be conveniently manipulated so as to permit laundering and replacement. The construction also minimizes the possibility of chafing the wearers skin in the crotch portion of the body and the manner of securing the strips 15 and 14 together forms a convenient pocket 22 which may contain a sachet or other chemical susbtance therein, the sachet 23 being inserted prior to insertion of the crotch reinforcing member itself. It will be noted that the sachet 23 is separated from the wearers body by the strip 14. The strips 14 and 15 will be formed of soft, flexible readily laundered material of uniform thickness to avoid bulkiness and to provide a comfortable material adjacent the skin.
In the further practice of my invention, the garter support strips 27 are provided at each of their free upper ends with male snap fastening elements 28 adapted to be snapped into engagement with spaced female snap fastening elements 29 provided along the reinforcing strips 13 (Fig. 3). It will be noted that the upper ends of the strips 27 when thus attached to the girdle are offset from each other, imparting a V-shaped configuration to strips 3 27'. Thus the strips 27 may be readily and easily removed to be replaced by freshly laundered or new strips.
Referring now particularly to Figs. 6 through 9, there is shown a modified form of the present invention wherein the male snap fastening elements 25 aresecured to the" points or ends of the strips 14' and 15 without the reinforcing material 24 of the-first form. Also, in this form the garter support strips 27' are provided at one end with female snap fastening elements 30- on' the faces thereof" opposite from one of the male snap fastening elements .28, these female elements 30 cooperatingwith male snap fastening elements 31 (Fig. 8) provided on the other end of the strips. Thus, the male snap fastening element28'will be snapped intofemale snap fastening element 29 provided on the inside of strips 13; as in the first form, while the; other end of the strip 27 will be snapped into female element 30* by'means of" the male element31', as shown in- Fig': 92
It will also be apparent that the upper ends of' strips 27 may bestitehedor otherwise secured to thereinforcingstrips 13. g
In otherrespects the form of the invention shown in Figs. 6 through 9 isthe same as that shownin Figs. 1 through 5, and likereferenc'e numerals identify'likeparts' throughout the several'views.
Having thus described my'invention, what'I claim as new, and desire to secure by'United States Letters Patent A garment having a body encircling portion, leg encircling portions, a crotch portion between the leg encircling portions, a combined crotch reenforcing member and perfume holder positioned over the crotch portion including elongated rectangular-shaped strips disposed in crossed relation, the borders of the strips at the crossed area being stitched to the crotch portion on three sides to form a pocket, the border of one of said strips at the crossed area being; unattached to provide an entrance to and exit from said pocket for insertion and removal of a perfume container, the remainder of the borders of the strips being stitched to the crotch portion and body encircling portion, reenforcing strips at the ends of the crossed strips, male snap fastener elements secured to the end reenforcing strips, and complementary female snap fastener elements secured to the body encircling and leg encircling portions.
