1 Claim. (Cl. 128-29tl) This invention relates to a sanitary pad and has for its primary object to add to the comfort of the wearer.

Another object is to conceal the fact that the item is being Worn and further to avoid discomfort caused by chafing and abrading the skin of the wearer during such periods as the item is being worn.

A further object is to enable the device to be readily adjusted to the person of the wearer.

The above and other objects may be attained by employing this invention which embodies among its features a soft pliable backing sheet of porous material, a moisture proof coating carried by a restricted area of one side of said backing sheet, a porous perforated cover sheet adhesively secured to the backing sheet and covering the coated area thereof, and a pad of absorbent material disposed between the sheets in contact with the moisture proof coating.

Other features include straps adhesively secured to adjacent faces of the backing sheet and the cover sheet and extending longitudinally from opposite ends of the pad for detachably connecting said pad to a support, said straps converging as they recede from the pad and carrying selected elements of separable fasteners, an elastic supporting belt, straps carried by the belt and extending downwardly therefrom in diametrically spaced relation thereto, and cooperating elements of separable fasteners carried by the last named straps for engagement by the selected elements to detachably couple the pad to the belt.

Still other features include cushions of pliable porous material enclosed in the straps carried by the belt.

Referring to the drawings in detail, this improved sanitary appliance comprises a belt 19 of elastic material carrying at diametrically opposite locations depending straps 12 enclosing cushions 14 of porous pliable material such as foam rubber. Carried by one of the straps 12 and projecting outwardly from the side thereof remote from the opposite strap 12 is one element 16 of a separable fastener, and carried by the opposite strap 14 and projecting outwardly therefrom and from the side thereof remote from the opposite strap 12 are longitudinally spaced selected elements 18 and 20 of separable fasteners. The elements 16, 18 and 20 cooperate in supporting the sanitary pad designated generally 22 on the belt 10. The pad 22 comprises a backing sheet 24 of pliable porous material such as foam rubber, and carried by said backing sheet 24 on one side thereof is a coating 26 of latex which serves to render the area covered by the coating impervious to moisture. Cemented by a suitable rubber cement 28 to the backing sheet 24 adjacent the perimeter thereof is a cover sheet 34) of pliable porous material of the same description as the backing sheet 24, and extending through the cover sheet 30 are laterally spaced rows of longitudinally spaced openings 32 to admit moisture into the space between the sheets 24 and 30. Disposed on the latex coating 26 of the backing sheet 24 is an absorbent pad 34 which may be composed of any suitable material such as cellulose v sponge.

Cemented between the pads 24 and 30 adjacent opposite ends thereof are divergent portions 36 of ribbons which converge as they recede from the ends of the pad 22 and carry adjacent their ends remote from said pad cooperating elements 38 of separable fasteners.

In use, the belt 10 is adjusted to the person of the wearer with the straps 12 extending downwardly in front of and to the rear of the wearer. The pad 22 is then attached to the straps 12 by engaging the elements 38 with selected elements 16, 18 or 20 of separable fasteners so that the pad 20 will extend through the crotch of the wearer with the absorbent sheet 3% disposed upwardly so that any fluids discharged from the person of the wearer will find their way into the absorbent pad 34. Owing to the fact that the sheets 24 and 30 from which the pad is constructed are of soft pliable material, it will be evident that no chafing or other discomfort will be experienced by the user. Moreover, owing to the impervious coating 26 applied to the inner face of the sheet 24, any liquid or moisture finding its Way into the absorbent pad 34 will be prevented from escape through the sheet 24 and consequently no danger of staining the outer garments will be experienced.

While in the foregoing there has been shown and described the preferred embodiment of this invention, it is to be understood that minor changes in the details of construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.

What is claimed is:

A sanitary pad comprising a soft pliable backing sheet of porous material, a moisture proof coating carried by a restricted area of one side of said backing sheet, a porous perforated cover sheet adhesively secured to the backing sheet and covering the coated area thereof, a pad of absorbent material disposed between the sheets in contact with the moisture proof coating, straps adhesively secured to adjacent faces of the backing sheet and the cover sheet and extending longitudinally from opposite ends of the pad for detachably connecting said pad to a support, said straps converging as they recede from the pad and carrying selected elements of separable fasteners, an elastic supporting belt, straps carried by the belt and extending downwardly therefrom in diametrically spaced relation thereto, cooperating elements of separable fasteners carried by the last named straps for engagement by the selected elements to detachably couple the pad to the belt, and cushions of pliable porous material enclosed in the straps carried by the belt.
