Specification of Letters Patent No. 27,339, dated February 28, 1860.

Be it known that I, CHARLES J. BRADBURY, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and Commonwealth of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improved Self- Adjusting Bell-Pull; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, makin a part of this specification, in which" Figure 1 is a perspective view; Fig. 2 of the knob and handle or shank; Fig. 3 of the adjustable nut and lever; Fig. 4 of the adjustable nut; and Fig. 5 of the auxiliary spring.

The nature and construction of my invention consists of a knob and handle A, Figs. 1 and 2, with a shank, a, having its end turned down and a thread, Z), out upon it; an auxiliary spring, C, Figs. 1 and 5, and an adjustable nut, D, Figs. 1, 3 and 4, having a slit cut in one end to accommodate the lever E, Fig. 3, and the other end tapped so as to screw onto the end of the shank, Z), of the knob and handle A; and having a shoulder as represented in said figures, this arrangement insuring the return of the knob and handle to the proper place after the bell has been rung, and also rendering the whole arrangement more durable, and adapting it for different thicknesses of framing, as well as the loss of power in the spring by its continual use.

hat I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- The arrangement of the spring C, the knob A, and nut D, the shank a, the screw 12, and the lever E, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
