Description
April 3, 1956 H.. RENN DIABETICS EMERGENCY KIT Filed Jan. 29, 1954 United States Patent DIABETICS EMERGENCY KIT Herbert Renn, West New York, N. 3., assignor of fifty per cent to William Renn, Woodbridge, N. 3.
Application January 29, 1954, Serial No. 406,956
1 Claim. (Cl. 20612) This invention relates to a diabetics emergency kit.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a kit which a diabetic person may carry on his or her person at all times to be used whenever necessary to ward off an insulin shock or a sugar shock, whichever the case may be.
It is another object of the present invention to provide a kit of the above type which is compact, can be carried with ease on a mans person or in a womans purse and yet which contains all the necessary units for their diabetic condition.
Qther objects of the present invention are to provide a diabetics emergency kit bearing the above objects in mind which is of simple construction, inexpensive to manufacture, has a minimum number of parts, is easy to use and efiicient in operation.
For other objects and a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the invention with a portion of the cover broken away to show the interior construction for holding sugar;
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view taken along the line 2-2 of Fig. l; and
Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the lower half of the case, shown alone.
Referring now more in detail to the drawing, there is shown a container made up of a lower half and an upper half 11, the upper half or cover 11 being adapted to slide downwardly on to the lower half or container 10 and into abutment with the bottom flange 12. To facilitate separation of the parts, the cover is provided with the finger openings 13 on each side. Preferably the cross section of the container resembles a sausage (Fig. 3) with the lower half being provided with the partitions 14 and 15 defining therebetween a compartment 16 within which is housed a bottle of insulin 17. End compartments 18 and 19 are provided at each end of the bottom half 10, the compartment member 19 being provided at its top wall with an opening 20 which receives downwardly theretln'ough the hypodermic 21. The compartment forming member 18 at its top is provided with an opening 22 across which is mounted a cushion 23 which receives downwardly therethrough the hypodermic needle 24. The partition 14 and the adjacent wall of the end compartment 18 form therebetween a compartment 25 within which is positioned a bottle of cotton 26 while the partition 15 and the adjacent wall of the end compartment 19 provide therebetween a compartment 27 within which is positioned a bottle of antiseptic 28.
A compartment 29 is suitably secured to the inner face of the top of the cover 11 and includes a sliding door 30 having a finger 31 to facilitate movement of the same within the track forming members 32 whereby to provide access to the interior of compartment 29 and the sugar contained therewithin.
Thus, the above kit provides all the necessary materials which in an emergency may very well save the patients life. With a compact kit of this type the diabetic may feel at ease, knowing that he or she can cope with the condition immediately. A diabetic person will recognize the symptoms of an insulin or sugar shock, but frequently they are not prepared for it, and to get assistance quickly is important butsometimes impossible with a tragic result. With the present kit this is avoided.
The container may be constructed of plastic or light gauge metal and the bottles will be clearly marked ,with labels.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claim.
Having thus set forth and disclosed the nature of my invention, what is claimed is:
A diabetics emergency kit comprising a container of elongated cross section, a cover adapted to fit downwardly on to said container, hollow end compartments at each end of said container, one of said end compartments at the top thereof having an opening receiving downwardly therethrough a hypodermic, the other of said end compartments having a cushion receiving downwardly therethrough a hypodermic needle, and a pair of partitions spaced from each other and from said end partitions; whereby to provide three compartments adapted to contain the cotton, insulin and antiseptic, and a compartment within said cover containing sugar, the said container having a base adapted to abut the lower edge ofthe said cover, the said cover having finger openings at each side to facilitate the separation from the said cover, and the said sugar containing compartment having an opening on the face adjacent the said container, a sliding member adapted to close the said opening and terminating in a finger tab, and track means receiving the 0pposite longitudinal edges of the said sliding member connected to the said compartment, and the said cover being of greater height than that of the said container, in order to maintain the said sugar containing compartment in spaced relationship to the contents of the said container.
