1 Claim. (Cl. 2-74) This invention relates to new and useful improvements in garments and garment construction.

More particularly, the present invention proposes the construction of an improved reversible quilted pullover garment which can be worn first with one side outermost and then with the other side outermost simply by turning the garment inside out.

As a further object, the present invention proposes forming the garment with au upper portion and with a lower portion and with the outer layers of each portion constructed and arranged so that the garment will have a finished appearance on both sides.

l Still further, the present invention proposes arranging the outer layers of the upper and lower portions so that the two portions will have a matching appearance on each side of the garment or a contrasting appearance, as desired.

The reversible quilted pullover garment, in accordance with the first form of the invention shown in Figs. 1 to 8, inclusive, has an upper portion and a lower portion 16.

Upper portion 15 has a neck opening 17 and arm open ings 18 and 19, these openings being bound by tape or piping 20. The upper portion 15 has a side seam 21 (see Fig. 6) and is thus in the form of a pullover vest.

The lower edge 22 of the upper portion 15 is secured to the upper edge 23 of the lower portion 16 by a cross seam 24 similar to side seam 21. The bottom edge 25 of the lower portion 16 is also bound by the tape or piping 20.

As shown, the lower portion 16 s in `the form of a 2,743,450 Patented May 1, 1956 ice circular skirt with a side seam 26 (see Fig. 6) similar to side seam 21 of the upper portion 15.

Both the upper and lower portions are made in three layers of fabric or other material with outer layers 27 and 28 and an inner layer 29 of soft padding or quilting. The three layers are secured together at spaced intervals in quilted fashion by stitches 30.

Seams 21, 24 and 26 are overlapping seams, as can be best seen in Figs. 7 and 8. These seams are formed with all free ends turned under and interlocked with other free edges. Stitching 31 centrally secures the seams to give the same seam appearance to each side of the garment.

As indicated in Figs. 2 and 3, the outer layers of the upper and lower portions 15 and 16 on one side of the garment are of the same fabric and of the same color red. The outer layers on the other side of the garment are also of the same color, blue. It will be seen that the appearance of the garment can be modied merely by reversing it.

In the modification of the invention illustrated in Fig. 9, the vreversible quilted pullover garment has an upper portion 32 and a lower portion 33 constructed similar to upper and lower portions 15 and 16 described above. The upper portion 32, however, has its red side adjacent the blue side of the lower portion 33 and its blue side adjacent the redside of the lower portion 33. ln this manner the upper and lower portions of the garment are always of contrasting or dilferent colors regardless of whether the garment is worn inside out or not.

While i have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that l I do not limit myself to the precise constructions herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as dened in the appended claim.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:

A reversible quilted pullover garment comprising a tubular upper portion constituting a vest and a tubular lower portion constituting a skirt connected at its upper end to the lower end of the upper portion, each portion consisting of two outer layers and an intermediate layer of material stitched together, said upper portion having side seams and neck and arm openings, with piping along the edges'of said'openings on both outer layers, said lower portion having side seams aligned with thev side seams in the upper portion, the connection between the upper and lower portions including a seam composed of the folded-over ends of said portions nested within each other concealing the end edges thereof and rows of stitching holding the folded-over ends together, the folds having the same appearance on both outer layers, the side seams being of the same construction and appearance as the end seam.
