7 1956 MASASHI TANIKAWA MECHANICAL DEVICE USED TO CORRECT HUMAN NOSES Filed Dec. 22, 1954 United States Patent O MECHANICAL DEVICE USED TO CORRECT HUMAN NOSES Masashi Tanikawa, New York, N. Y. Application December 22, 1954, Serial No. 476,980 2 Claims. (Cl. 128-76) This invention relates to devices for shaping noses and more particularly to devices used to produce a relatively thin nose.
It is an object of this invention to provide a means for changing a wide or broad nose to a relatively thin nose.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a nose-shaping device which is easily manipulated and does not have any harmful effects upon the health of the user.
A further object of the invention is to provide a noseshaping device which is compact, of attractive appearance and easily portable.
A still further object of the present invention is to provide such a device which is easily manufactured and which may be marketed at a comparatively low price.
Other and more specific objects of the present invention will be apparent from the following description as read in connection with the accompanying drawing, the novel features of this invention being pointed out in the claims at the end of the specification.
Figure l is a perspective view of one embodiment of the invention.
Figure 2 is a cross-section thereof taken about the line 2-2 and looking in the direction of the arrows located at the ends of the said line.
Figure 3 is a side elevation of the form of the invention illustrated in Figure 1.
Figure 4 depicts this form of the invention in operational use.
Referring in detail to the drawing, the embodiment of the invention therein shown comprises an arcuate steel spring which is firmly embedded within two plastic side members 11, 12, as shown in Figure 2. On the outer side of each of the said plastic members 11, 12, there is formed a manually engageable handle 13, 14, said handle 13, 14 being integral with the said members 11, 12 and composed of the same plastic material. On the lower inner side of each of the said plastic members 11, 12 there is also suitably alfixed a sponge rubber pad 15, 16.
These pads 15, 16 are normally located in the immediate vicinity of each other due to the tension of the steel spring 10 but they may be manually separated, as desired.
In using this form of the invention, it is only necessary 2,757,66 Patented Aug. 7, 1956 to separate the said pads 15, 16 so as to enable the user to fit the said device upon the lower portion of his nose in the vicinity of the wings 17 thereof. This may easily be accomplished by grasping each of the handles 13, 14 and pulling them sufficiently apart so as to accommodate the nose.
The device may be left in this position for as long as desired. Its sponge rubber pads 15, 16 make the use of the said device comfortable but at the same time enables it to exert a substantial pressure upon the nose thereby tending to produce a relatively thin nose. Since a thin nose is deemed relatively attractive as compared with a bread or wide nose, it will be seen that the present invention facilitates the accomplishment of the former result without any hazard to the health of the user. Moreover, since the parts of this invention present no unusual manufacturing problems, it may be easily made at small expense.
The embodiments of the invention illustrated and described hereinabove have been selected for the purpose of clearly setting forth the principles involved. It will be apparent, however, that the present invention is susceptible of being modified in respect to details of construction, combination and arrangement of parts which may be resorted to without departure from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States:
1. A mechanical nose corrector of the character described, including a substantially U-shaped leaf spring of metal, a pair of elongated plastic side members having the ends of the spring embedded in the one end of each side member so that the side members virtually form elongations of the ends of said spring, enlarged or widened portions upon the ends of said side members remote from the spring, a resilient pad mounted upon the inner side of the remote end of each side member in such relation that the two pads face each other, and a manual handle serving as a finger piece by which to manipulate the side members fixed upon the exterior side of each enlarged end portion directly outside the pad upon each such enlarged end portion.
2. A mechanical nose corrector according to claim 1, wherein the plastic side members are of greater cross section than that of the spring and the enlarged or widened portions are substantially disk-shaped with the pads circular and the handles forming projecting knobs having neck portions connecting them with the widened portions of the side members and locating them substantially in line.
