United States Patent 2,776,757 DISPLAY STAND FOR CASH REGISTER Harry R. Schoenlaub, CincinnatLOhio, assignor to Brunhoflf Manufacturing Company, Cincinnati, Ohio, a corporation of Ohio Application December 9, 1954, Serial No. 474,179
2 Claims. (Cl. 211-86) My invention relates to a display stand and more particularly to a display stand for a cash register Whereby the space immediately above the cash register may be utilized to display sm-a'll articles or merchandise.
It is a principal object of my invention to provide a cash register display stand which will utilize the space directly over the cash register whereby this otherwise unused space may be utilized to good advantage.
A further object of .my invention is the provision of a display stand capable of being adjustably mounted relative to the cash register and rigidly supported therefrom, the arrangement of parts being such that the stand may be supported from either side of the cash register.
Yet a further object of my invention is the provision of a display stand adapted to be attached to the cash register in such fashion that it does not require fastening to the counter or other special fittings, the weight of the cash register serving to contact a base plate which acts to secure the stand in place.
Still a further object of my invention is the provision of a display stand of the character described which is free from supporting members and the like extending beyond the confines of the cash register and occupying space which would be useful for other purposes.
These and other objects of my invention which will appear hereinafter or which will be apparent to the skilled worker in the art upon reading these specifications, I accomplish by that construction and arrangement of parts of which I shall now describe an exemplary embodiment;
Reference is now made to tthe accompanying drawings wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a display stand in accordance with my invention illustrating the manner in which it is held in place by mean of thecash register.
Figure 2 is an enlarged sectional view taken along the line 22 of Figure 1.
' Figure 3 is a perspective view of the base plate for mounting the display stand.
'Figure 4 is an exploded perspective view of one of the supporting posts.
Figure 5 is a sectional view taken along the line 5-5 of 'Figure 1.
Figure 6 is an enlarged partial sectional view illustrating the manner in which the display tray is mounted on the supporting posts.
Referring now to the figures of the drawings, the display stand comprises a tray 1 adapted to receive the merchandise to be displayed. The tray may take any form desired; and in the embodiment illustrated it is provided with a front wall 2 provided with a channel 3 adapted to receive a strip or tape 4 which may carry printed indicia, such as price labels or the like. The rear wall 5 of the tray is enlarged and carries a supplementary tray 6 the front wall 7 of which is provided with a channel '8 for receiving a strip or tape of printed indicia.
On its under surface the tray 1 carries spaced apart 2,776,757 Patented Jan. 8, 1957 pairs of brackets, indicated at 9, 10 and 11, 12, the pairs i be formed from tubular stock and will slidably receive the lower post members '17 and 18 having angular-1y related feet -19 and--20, respectively. A plurality of setscrew openings 21 are provided at spaced intervals along the upper supporting post members 15 and 16, and
mating openings '22 are provided in the lower post mem-' bers 17 and 18, whereby the relative heighth of the posts may be adjusted by means of the set-screws 23.
A rectangular base plate 24 adapted to underlie a corner of the cash register is provided with inverted channel members 25 and 26 extending along adjacent side edges thereof to receive the feet 19 and 20 of the lower post members 17 and 18, respectively, the feet being secured to the channel members by means of screws 27 and 28, thereby fixedly mounting the lower post members to the base plate.
It will be understood that the base plate will underlie a corner edge of the cash register with the weight of the cash register serving to maintain the supporting posts in upright position. It will also be evident at the base plate may be mounted under any corner of the cash register, thereby permitting the display stand to be mounted in the most convenient position. The tubular supporting post members permit the stand to be adjusted as desired, both with respect to the general position of the tray and its angle of inclination.
It will be evident that the arrangement just described permits the utilization of the otherwise dead space above the cash register and at the same time the arrangement of the supporting post members is such that the counter space surrounding the cash register is not disturbed by the presence of the stand, the only additional space required being the actual space occupied by the supporting posts themselves, which is negligible.
Modifications may be made in my invention without departing from the spirit of it. For example, in Figure 6, I have illustrated an indentation 29 in the bottom 30 of the tray into which the heads 31 and '32 of the bracket mounting bolts are adapted to lie, thereby maintaining the bottom of the tray free from obstructions. Other modification-s will undoubtedly occur to the skilled worker in the art and I do not intend to be limited in any manner other than as set forth in the claims which follow.
Having, however, described'my invention in an exemplary embodiment, what I desire to secure and protect by Letters Patent is:
1. A display stand for a cash register comprising a generally rectangular base plate adapted to underlie a corner edge of a cash register, a pair of inverted channel shaped members projecting outwardly from adjacent side edges of said base plate, a pair of tubular lower supporting post members having angularly related feet received in said channel members and secured thereto, a pair of upper tubular supporting post members telescopically received by said lower supporting post members, said telescoping members being axially adjustable and secured in predetermined fixed position by means of set-screws, said upper supporting post members terminating upwardly in horizontally disposed leg members, a merchandise tray supported by said supporting posts by pairs of aligned bracket members on the under surface of said tray receiving the leg portions of said upper supporting posts.
2. A display stand for a cash register comprising a base plate to underlie a corner edge of the cash register,
3 a pair of axially adjustable supporting posts extending upwardly, from said base plate, means mounting the lower ends of said supporting posts on said base plate, said supporting posts terminating upwardly in horizorrtally disposed leg @ortions, a merchandise tray supported by the horizontally disposed leg portions of said supporting posts, bracket means on the under surface of said tray receiving said leg portions with the leg portions extending longitudinally of the tray in transversely spaced apart relation, and means for independently securing the said axially adjustable supporting posts in predetermined fixed position, whereby the angle of inclination of said tray may be altered by adjustment of the relative lengths of said supporting posts.
