Description
Jan. 22, 1957 C. N. HUSTON SUPPOSITORY INJECTOR Filed March 28, 1955 Carl N. Hus fan INVENTOR.
United States Patent Oflice SUPPOSITORY INJECTOR Carl N. Huston, Anderson, Ind. Application March 28, 1955, Serial No. 496,971
1 Claim. (Cl. 128-271) The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in injectors for inserting suppositories, or capsules in a rectum or other body canal.
An important object of the invention is to provide an injector constructed of easily separable parts for conveniently cleaning and including a barrel detachably connected to a handle for interchangeably substituting different types and sizes of barrels for accommodating various types of capsules or pellets.
Another object is to provide finger gripping loops on the handle to enable the injector to be held steady while actuating the injecting plunger.
A further object is to provide a device of this character of simple and practical construction, which is eficient and reliable in operation, relatively inexpensive to manufacture and otherwise well adapted for the purpose for which the same is intended.
These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view;
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view taken on a line 2-2 of Figure I; and
Figure 3 is a transverse sectional view taken on a line 33 of Figure l.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, wherein for the purpose of illustration I have disclosed a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 5 designates a handle having a longitudinal bore 6 therein and the front end of the handle is formed with an externally threaded stem 7 for connecting in an internally threaded counterbore 8 at the rear end of a barrel 9.
The barrel is also formed with a bore 10 axially aligned 2,778,361 Patented Jan. 22, 1957 with the bore 6 of the handle to form a cylinder in which a plunger 11 is slidable. A knob 12 is secured to the rear end of the plunger.
The front end of bore 10 in the barrel is formed with a counter-bore 13 to provide a chamber adapted to receive a capsule, pellet or the like 14 in a position with the front end thereof protruding at the front end of the barrel to form a pilot tip 15 to facilitate guiding the barrel in a rectal or other body canal.
A pair of finger gripping lo'ops 16 and 17 are formed at diametrically opposite sides of a ring 18 which is clamped in'a circumferential groove 19 formed at the rear of the barrel at the junction thereof with handle 5 to utilize the tightening of the handle on the barrel for clamping the ring thereto and to hold the finger grips from turning relative to the handle or barrel.
With the plunger 11 in retracted position and after placing a capsule 14 in the chamber 13, the barrel is inserted in the rectum of a person and held steady by the finger gripping loops 16 and 17 while the plunger is forced inwardly to engage and eject the capsule outwardly of the barrel.
The foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, accordingly all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the appended claim.
What is claimed as new is as follows:
An injector of the class described comprising in combination, a handle, a barrel connected to the handle, a ring clamped between the handle and the barrel, a pair of finger engaging loops carried by the ring and projecting outwardly at diametrically opposite sides of the handle, said handle and said barrel having axially aligned bores, said barrel being adapted for receiving a soluble body at the front end of the bore of the barrel, and a plunger working in the bones of the handle and barrel for ejecting said body.
