BEAUTY SHOP PARTITION Filed Jan. 19, 1954 I 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Fig.4 1 3 6 Paul Refer Tarz/a IN VEN TOR.
United States Patent Ofiice 2,781,558 Patented Feb. 19, 1957 This invention relates to a beauty shop partition and more particularly to a partition having a lower nontransparent section and an upper transparent section.
An object of this invention is to provide an improved means for mounting a transparent plate on a partition member.
Another object-of this invention is to provide a beauty shop partition wherein a transparent plate extending upwardly therefrom is securely held in position without the use of posts or caps for the plate.
A further object of this invention is to provide means for mounting a transparent plate on a partition which is simple and efficient in construction, and durable and lasting in use.
These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure l is a perspective view showing a plurality of partitions forming the subject of this invention mounted in position;
Figure 2 is a perspective view of one of the side members used in the partition forming the subject of this invention;
Figure 3 is a bottom view of the partition forming the subject of this invention, with parts broken away showing the disposition of the stud within the partition;
Figure 4 is a perspective view of one of the partitions forming the subject of this invention with parts broken away to show the internal construction of the lower section of the partition;
Figure 5 is a sectional view taken substantially along the section line 5--5 of Figure 4;
Figure 6 is a sectional view taken substantially along section line 6-6 of Figure 5; and
Figure 7 is a perspective view of the cap member for the partition forming the subject of this invention.
Referring now more specifically to the accompanying drawings, it will be seen that the improved beauty shop partition forming the subject of this invention includes a lower non-transparent section 10 and an upper transparent section 12. The partitions are adapted to be positioned in a beauty parlor with one end thereof adjacent one wall of the shop. The partitions are spaced from one another so as to form stalls wherein chairs and equipment can be placed.
Referring now to Figure 4, it will be seen that the lower non-transparent section 14) is formed of a base member 14. The base member 14 comprises a longitudinally extending plate having a plurality of upwardly facing grooves 16 therein. A plurality of stud members 18 are mounted on the plate 14 and extend upwardly therefrom. The lower ends of the stud members 18 are received in the grooves 16. A cap member 20 is provided with a plurality of downwardly facing grooves 22 and is mounted on the upper ends of the stud members 18. The upper ends of the stud members 18 are received in the grooves 22. Any suitable fastening means can be used for retaining the ends of the stud members 18 in the grooves 16 and 22.
The frame formed by the base 14, studs 18 and cap member 20 is covered on opposite sides by panels 24.
The panels 24 can be of any suitable material, such as formica or the like. One end of the frame is covered by a strip 26 of material similar to that of the panels 24. The end 26 is adapted to be positioned away from the wall of the shop.
A pair of legs 28 are secured to the plate 14 and extend downwardly therefrom for supporting the structure. Resilient pads 30 are secured to the lower surface of the 1 legs 28. The cap member 20 is provided with a longitudinally extending vertical slot 32 therein. The slot 32 extends from the end of the member 20 to a point adjacent the end 26 of the frame. The upper end of each of the studs 18 is provided with a vertically disposed slot 34 which extends downwardly :from the upper end thereof. The slots 34 register with the longitudinal slot 32. A plate 36 of transparent material is positioned with its lower end received in the .slots 32 and extending into the slots 34. The lower edge of the plate 36 rests on the closed end of the slots 34 to maintain the plate 36 projecting upwardly above the cap member 20. The plate 36 is of a length equal to the length of longitudinal slot 32.
The upper surface of the cap member 20 is covered by a strip 38 of material similar to the material of panels 24. When the partitions are placed in position with one end against the wall of a shop, the rear edge of the plate 36 abuts the wall.
From the foregoing, the construction and operation of the device will be readily understood and further explanation is believed to be unnecessary. However, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the appended claims.
What is claimed as new is as follows:
1. A beauty shop partition comprising a longitudinal base member having a plurality of upwardly facing transverse grooves therein, a plurality of vertically disposed stud members positioned on said base member with the lower ends of said stud members received in said grooves, a cap member having a plurality of downwardly facing grooves therein, said studs having the upper ends thereof received in said downwardly facing grooves, said cap member having a longitudinally extending vertical sl-ot therein, each of said stud members being provided with a longitudinal slot extending vertically from the upper end thereof and aligned with the longitudinal slot in said cap member, and a plate of transparent material extending vertically above said cap member and longitudinally thereof, said plate having the lower edge thereof passing through the longitudinal slot in said cap member and received in the longitudinal slots in said stud mem bers.
2. The combination of claim 1 wherein said stud members are covered by a pair of panels extending between said base member and said cap member, said panels being disposed on opposite sides of said stud members.
3. The combination of claim 1 wherein said slot extends from one end of said frame and terminates in spaced relation from the opposite end of said frame, said plate being of a length equal to the length of said slot.
