2 Claims. (Cl. 311-10) This invention relates to an improvement in a thera peutic tilting table; its object is to provide a tilting table upon which the head, body and limbs of a patient may be conveniently and adequately supported in a number of adjustable positions.
Another object is to provide in such a table, positive locking means for its various adjustable features.
Still another object is to permit the table to be economically fabricated, easily maintained, and readily and safely adjusted even by an inexperienced operator.
Other objects Will appear from the description which follows.
One embodiment of this invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the table supporting a patient.
Figure 2 is a side elevational view of the table top with certain portions cut away.
Figure 3 is a side elevational enlarged detail of a slidable connection between an adjustable rod and a side rail of the table top.
Figure 4 is an end view of Figure 3 partly in section.
Figure 5 is a cross section of the means for attachment of the side rails to the table top.
Referring to the drawings in which the same reference character refers to the same or a similar part, the completely assembled table consists of the following basic parts: table A, base B, cross arm C, foot board D, platform E, and foam rubber cushion F.
The table is provided with side members 1 consisting of rails 2 that are detachably secured to platform E at various points, one of which is shown in Figure 5. Bolt 9 having a head 3 seated in countersunk bore 10 and adapted to be turned by a Wrench such as shown in broken outline, holds rail 2 to platform E. Bolt 9 passes through bracket 4 which spaces rail 2 a fixed distance from the adjacent reinforced edge of platform E. The inner end of bolt 9 is threaded into transverse hole 8 of removable pin 5 which is set within hole 6 in platform E and having its head 5' in countersunk hole 7.
Adjustable in a parallel direction with respect to rails 2 are rods 14 in Figures 3 and 4, details of one of the connections between them are shown. Bracket 11 connited States Patent Patented Apr. 2, 1957 sists of curved arm 12 mounted on U-clamp 15 which rides astride rail 2 with forked members 16. A pair of locking screws 17 are tightened to clamp bracket 11 to the desired position on rail 2. Arm 12 supports sleeve 13 through which rod 14 passes. Set screw 13 locks rod 14 to bracket 11.
With like brackets slidably mounted on rails 2, underarm supports for a patient may be provided as shown in Figure 1. Belts and straps for holding the patient on the table when it is tilted are also readily attached to rails 2 by simple hooks as also illustrated in Figure 1.
At the head end of the table, each rod 14 is connected through an adjustable joint 18 to sling supporting arms 19. With arms 19 adjustable with respect to rods 14 and equipped to hold arm supporting slings, various uses may be made of the table. If a head supporting sling is desired cross arm C may be utilized for that purpose.
Various kinds of materials may be used in the fabrication of a table embodying this invention and many details of its construction may be made Without departing from the scope of this invention. I do not, therefore, limit myself to the illustration herein described and shown.
What I claim is:
1. In a therapeutic tilting table, a table top having a rail removably secured parallel to one edge a spaced distance therefrom by attachment means comprising a pin removably seated in a vertical opening in the table top adjacent one edge; a passage connecting the said vertical opening with an opening in the edge of the table top; a threaded transverse hole in such pin registerab'le with such passage; a sleeve the length of the spaced distance between the table top and the rail; and a bolt having its head seated in a countersunk transverse bore in the rail and passing through the sleeve and threaded into the transverse hole in the pin.
2. Means for removably securing a rail a spaced distance from the edge of a table top, comprising a pin removably seated in a vertical opening in the table top adjacent one edge; a passage connecting the said vertical opening with an opening in the edge of the table top; a threaded transverse hole in such pin registerable with such passage; a sleeve the length of the spaced distance between the table top and the rail; and a bolt having its head seated in a countersunk transverse bore in the rail and passing through the sleeve and threaded into the transverse hole in the pin.
