DUPLEX DISPENSING CAN Filed Nov. 2, 1955 Evan L. Bus/wick IN VEN TOR.
United States Patent DUPLEX DISPENSING CAN Evan L. Bostwick, Dorris, Calif.
Application November 2, 1955, Serial No. 544,475
1 Claim. (Cl. 222-129) The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in cans for carrying fuel and oil for use with portable power saws and more particularly to a duplex gas and oil dispensing can by means of which a supply of gas and a supply of oil may be carried in a single container.
An important object of the invention is to construct the top of a gasoline dispensing can with a filler cap as Well as with a pouring spout and to support an auxiliary can adapted for holding oil at the underside of the top of the main can and also providing the auxiliary can with a filler cap and a dispensing spout which projects outwardly of the top of the main can.
Another object of the invention is to arrange the pouring spouts for the main can and the auxiliary can at substantially diametrically opposite sides of the top of the main can to prevent leakage from one spout While liquid is being poured from the other spout.
A still further object is to provide a device of this character of simple and practical construction, which is relatively inexpensive to manufacture and otherwise well adapted for the purpose for which the same is intended.
These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure l is a perspective View;
Figure 2 is an enlarged vertical sectional view taken on a line 22 of Figure 1; and,
Figure 3 is a fragmentary sectional view taken on a line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Referring now to the drawing in detail wherein for the purpose of illustration I have disclosed a preferred embodiment of invention, the numeral 5 designates a dispensing can which is manufactured with a dome-shaped top 6 as a separate unit and crimped, soldered, welded or otherwise suitably secured to the top of the can 5. The top 6 of the can is provided with a filler cap 7 at ice the central portion thereof and is also provided with a pouring spout 8 and cap 9 which projects upwardly at an inclined angle from the top 6 toward one side of the can.
An auxiliary can ll of relatively less capacity has its top 11 welded, soldered or otherwise suitably secured to the underside of the top 6 of the main can 5 and the top of the auxiliary can is formed with a filler neck 12 which projects outwardly through an opening 13 in the top 6 of the main can. The neck 12 is suitably sealed in the opening 13 and the outer end of the neck is provided with a filler cap 14.
A pouring spout 15 extends upwardly at an inclined angle from the lower portion of the auxiliary can 10 and outwardly through an opening 16 in the top 6 of the main can. The spout 15 is suitably sealed in the opening 16 and the outer end of the spout 15 is provided with a cap or closure 17.
The main can 5 is adapted for holding gasoline for use in operating a portable power saw or other machinery while the auxiliary can 10 is adapted to contain lubricating oil. Accordingly, both the gasoline and the oil may be carried in a single container by a lumberman together with the power saw as it is transported from place to place.
The pouring spout 15 for the auxiliary can 10 projects outwardly through the top 6 of the main can at a side thereof substantially diametrically opposite to the pouring spout 8 for the main can so that when one spout is in use the liability of leakage from the other spout is reduced to a minimum.
The foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed as new is as follows:
A duplex dispensing container comprising a main can including a top having a filling cap and a pouring spout, an auxiliary can secured to the underside of the top of the main can to support the auxiliary can inside the main can, a filler cap at the top of the auxiliary can, and a pouring spout for the lower portion of the auxiliary can, said last-named filler cap and spout extending outwardly through the top of the main can.
