1 Claim. (Cl. 15-231) This invention relates to an improved waxing and polishing mop.

It is a primary object of this invention to provide an improved waxing and polishing mop having a brush or mop head on one end of an elongated handle, the handle and brush being separable upon the use of the force of 1a hand of an operator who is using such improved iioor waxer.

It is an object of this invention to provide an improved oor waxer of the kind to be more particularly described heueinafter wherein both the head of the waxer and the connection between the handle are specially formed for engagement or disengagement when the waxer head and handle therefor are to be used together and when the head is to be removed from the handle.

It is another object of this invention to provide an improved iloor waxer and elongated handle therefor which are rockably engaged together by a resilient connector secured to one end of the handle or disengaged therefrom by .1a hand of the person using the waxer.

Other and further objects and advantages of the invention will be hereinafter described and the novel features thereof defined in the appended claim.

During the use of a floor waxer many occasions arise where it is desirable to remove the handle from the head of the waxer, the head being formed as a brush for engagement with the work.

Referring now more particularly to the drawings the numeral designates generally an improved floor waxer having an outwardly extending handle 11 rockably mou-nted thereon with a head 12 on one end of the handle 11. By this arrangement of the handle and head, the head may be easily moved to any desired inclination relative to the handle 11.

There is a connector 14, resilient along the length thereof, secured to the lower end of the handle 11. The connector 11 has elongated arms 15 which are connected together, or formed integral with, a bight 16 engageable in this one end of the handle-11 and pins 17 at the other end of the arms 15 which extend outwardly therefrom in opposite directions as clearly shown in Fig. 4 of the drawings.

The vertically extending handle 11 is provided with a slot 18 at the lower end thereof to which the head 12 is to be connected, the slot 18 forming bifurcations 19 on the end 20 of the handle, which is reduced in diameter. A sleeve or ferrule 35 engages about the reduced end 20 of handle 10 and holds the connector 14 on the lower end of handle 10.

The head 12 is formed from an upper horizontal flat plate 21 having a pair of spaced apart transversely extending rectangular elongated openings 22 therethrough.

A lower` plate 24 is disposed in vertically spaced apart relation to the upper plate 21, the lower plate 24 having formed integral therewith an upturned lug 25 transversely thereof adjacent to the longitudinal ends of the lower plate 24. The intermediate lugs 25 are provided with an opening 26 in each opening transversely thereof and longitudinally of the lower plate 24 which openings are to receive therein a hinge element or pin 17 of the con nector 14 by which the handle 11 is pivotally mounted on the head 12.

The lower plate 24 is also formed with longitudinally extending upturned sides 27 which extend perpendicular to the plane of the lower plate and extend upwardly therefrom for the more detailed reasons to be explained herein later.

A brush 28 engages the lower plate 24 `and the upper plate 21, the brush 28 having a fabric brush back 29 with fibers or bristles 30 extending outwardly from the brush back 29 land the lower plate 24 of the head 12, as the contact element for waxing.

The brush back 29 is turned over the top of the longitudinal upturned sides 27 and under plate 21 .as seen in Fig. 3. Between the longitudinal upturned sides 27 there is formed a channel to receive a resilient sponge rubber block 32 therein. The sponge rubber block 32 has openings 34 therein intermediate the length thereof, the openings extending transversely of the block so that when the intermediate lugs 25 of the lower plate 24 are extended upwardly they are free to pass through the openings 34 in the block and the rectangular elongated openings or slots 22 in the upper plate 21. The sides 31 of the brush 28 are securely fastened under the plate 21 and within the head 12 for the use of the improved floor waxer 10 when and as desired by the user thereof. The pins 17 pivotally supported in the openings 26 of the intermediate arms 25 are resiliently held by the block 32 pressing upwardly of the head.

While the speciiic details of one embodiment of this invention have been herein shown .and described, the invention is not confined thereto as changes and alterations may be made without departing from the spirit and scope thereof as defined in the appended claim.

I claim:

In a waxing and polishing mop, a mop head including Ia relatively rigid at plate, upturned sides carried by said plate, a pair of upwardly projecting apertured lugs struck from said plate, a resilient block disposed on the upper side of said plate between the sides thereof, said lugs projecting through said block with the apertures located above the block, a Wax applying covering engaging beneath said plate and extending upwardly and over the upper edges of said sides, said covering projecting inwardly partly over the upper face of said block, a clamping plate engaging over the upper face of said block and said inwardly projecting portions of said cover, and a handle connector' Aformed of downwardly divergent yieldable arms terminating in outwardly projecting pins engaging through the apertures of said lugs, said pins constituting the sole means for holding said head in assembled condition.
