UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE J. EDWARDS, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
PAPER BOX.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 281,354, dated July 17, 1883.
Application filed May .24, 1893. (Model) a manner that it can be readily folded in box form; andthe improvement consists inthe peculiar shape of the tuck or locking device by means of which the parts are held in position.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a plan of the paper out ready for folding. The solid lines in this figure indicate the cuts in the paper, and the dotted lines show where the folds are to be made when forming the box. Fig. 2 is a view in perspective of the box formed up ready for use, the locking devicebeing shown by the dotted lines.
A B O D represent the parts forming the main body. of the box.
9 is a small pasting, to be used when it is desired to more securely fasten the parts together than can be done with only the lock or tuck shown.
a Z) c drepresent the folding ends of thebox; m m, the inward-inclinedtuck or lock 011 the ends 0,- n n, cuts made in the ends a to allow the tucks m m to be inserted therein.
The paper being cut, as shown in Fig. 1, and scored on the dotted lines, it is folded on the lines 00 00, thus bringing together the parts A D, after which the end flaps b d are folded; then the end flap a is bent over; and, lastly, the flap 0, containing the points on m, is folded over and the inward-inclined point-s m m insorted in the cuts a n, the whole being thus securely held in position, forming a complete box.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is A paper box composed of the folded parts A, B, O, and D, having the end pieces, a b c d, adapted to fold over and cover the end of the box, the piece a being provided with the cuts a n, and the piece 0 with the inwardly-inclined points at m for looking into the cuts 41 n, substantially as herein set forth.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
