Claims. (Cl. 4170) This invention relates generally to lavatory carriers and more particularly to lavatory supporting heads for supporting llavatories and other appliances.

In supports for lavatories made according to previous :designs and with which we are familiar, the points at ,which the horizontal arms were attached to the vertical portion of the support often came loose and allowed a movement of the lavatory relative to the building. This the most desirable location of the lavatory relative to the wall and undesirable results in appearance and structure resulted.

It is, accordingly, an object of our invention to provide a lavoratory carrier supported from a floor of a building wherein the horizontal arm which supports the lavatory is adjustable relative to the vertical support.

Another object of the invention is to provide a lavatory carrier supported from the floor of a building having the joint between the horizontal lavatory carrying arm and the vertical support rigidly held against loosening and relative movement to the vertical support.

Another object of my invention is to provide a lavatory support which will be simple in construction, economical in cost, and efiicient in use.

With the above and other objects in view, the present invention consists of the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims, it being understood that changes may be made in the form, size, proportions, and minor details of construction without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.

Referring now more particularly to the drawing, Fig. 4 shows a side view of a lavatory with a support 2 therefor. The support for the lavatory includes a carrier having feet portions 1 for attaching to a floor. The feet 1 are ordinarily concealed in the floor of a building. The feet 1 have comparatively high upwardly extending cylindrical support members 3 with bores 4 for receiving the lower ends 5 of tubular legs 6. The feet 1 have upwardly extending bossed portions 8 and laterally extending apertures 9 for receiving a spacing bar 10. Each of the bossed members 8 has locking bolts 12 extending therein United States Patent 0 2 for engaging the spacing bar 10 to secure the feet 1 a predetermined distance apart.

Each of the tubular legs 6 has slidably disposed on the upper end thereof arm supporting members 16 which are T-shaped having a vertical aperture. 17 for receiving the vertical tubular leg members 6 .and a horizontal branch 18 for threadably engaging the arm 19 which is threaded at 20 to engage the internal threads 21 of the member 16. A set screw 22 threadably engages the member 16 to lock the member 16 against sliding on the members 6. A bossed portion 24 is attached to the member 16 and a bore 25 is provided to accommodate a spacing rod 26. The bossed portion 24 is threaded to accommodate the set screw 27 which is provided to lock the horizontal spacing rod 26 against sliding movement. Lavatory arms 30 have lavatory engaging surface 31 made up of a flanged member 32 and a vertical member 33 attached integrally thereto. The flange 32 is bored at 34 to receive set screws 35. The arms 19 are bored at 39 to receive set screw 40 and set screw 40'engages the surface 41 of the end 38 at 42. The corners of the end 38 are flattened at 43 and 44. The set screw 40, by engaging the top surface 41 of the end 38, forces the corners 43 into engagement with one side of the inner surface of a tube and forces the corners 44 out of engagement, thereby providing a three point rigid contact between the arms 30 and the arms 19, thereby providing a joint between the arms 19 and the arms 30 which is adjustable horizontally and which will be held in rigid relation with the support when the set screw 40 is tightened. This is because the corners 43 are in tight engagement with the inside of the arms 19 and make contact therewith and the set screws 40 hold the corners 43 in such relation.

It will be evident from the foreging description that we have provided a lavatory supporting arm which is horizontally adjustable and which will support a lavatory in rigid relationship thereto.

In the foregoing specification, we have set forth the invention in its preferred practical forms but we are aware that the structure shown is capable of modification within a range of equivalents without departing from the invention which it is to be understood is broadly novel as is commensurate with the appended claims.

What we claim is:

1. A lavatory support comprising spaced vertical legs, a support head attached to each of said legs, means to attach an arm to each said head, said means comprising a horizontally disposed member having a hollow therein circular in cross section attached to each said head, lavatory supporting arms, said lavatory supporting arms each having a portion integrally connected thereto polygonal in cross section, said polygonal portion being telescopically received in said hollow member, said lavatory supporting arms adapted to engage an outwardly extending flange of a lavatory, and a set screw threadably engaging said hollow member and extending into the hollow thereof and engaging a flat side of said polygonal member whereby the corners of said polygonal member are urged into engagement with the inside of said hollow member.

A lavatory support comprising spaced vertical legs, a support head attached to each of said legs, means to attach a lavatory supporting arm to each said head, said means comprising a horizontally disposed member having a hollow therein circular in cross section attached to each said head, lavatory supporting arms having a portion thereof square in cross section, one said square portion being telescopically received in each said hollow member, said arms adapted to engage an outwardly extending flange of a lavatory, and a set screw extending through a threaded hole in each said hollow member, each said screw having an end engaging a fiat surface of said square member whereby two corners of said square member are urged into engagement with the inside of said hollow member.

A lavatory support comprising spaced vertical legs, a support head attached to each of said legs, means to attach .a lavatory supporting arm to each said head, said means comprising horizontally disposed members having a hollow therein circular in cross section, each said hollow member being attached to one said head, and lavatory supporting supporting arms having a portion square in cross section having the corners of the square cross section rounded off, said square member being telescopically received in said hollow member, said arms adapted to engage an outwardly extending flange of a lavatory.

A lavatory carrier comprising two spaced vertical legs, a head comprising a first hollow cylindrical member disposed on each said leg with the said legs received in the hollows thereof, first means to hold said legs in spaced parallel relation, lavatory supporting arms, said supporting arms adapted to engage outwardly extending flanges of a lavatory, second means to hold said lavatory supporting arms in horizontally adjusted relation thereon, said second means comprising a second hollow member supported on each said head, said lavatory supporting arms having an integral portion comprising a square member telescopically received in said second hollow member, a set screw threadably engaging each said first hollow member and engaging a flat side of said square member, forcing said square member into engagement with the inside wall of said second hollow member, said means to hold said legs in spaced relation comprising rods received in hollow bosses attached to said heads, said hollow bosses slidably receiving said rods.

A lavatory carrier comprising two spaced vertical legs, heads comprising first hollow cylindrical members each receiving one said leg in the hollow thereof, first means to hold said legs in spaced parallel relation, lavatory supporting arms, said arms adapted to engage outwardly extending flanges of lavatory, second hollow members attached to said heads, said lavatory supporting arms having an integral portion square in cross section received in said second hollow members, set screws threadably engaging said second hollow members and engaging a flat side of said square member, forcing said square member into engagement with the inside Wall of said second hollow members, said means to hold said legs in spaced relation comprising hollow bosses on said heads, rods received in said hollow bosses, feet attached to said legs, and hollow bosses attached to said feet, and rods telescopically received in said hollow bosses on said feet whereby the spacing of said legs can be adjusted laterally.
