United States v4 Claims. (Cl. 20--74) 'This invention relates ,to new and useful vimprovements in-devices for connecting or receiving and concealing the adjacent edges lof angularly disposed cove members.
Cove members of relatively thin and rigid material are used for many purposes. As one example, the lower horizontal portion of a cove is disposed on a door and curves upwardly over the jointure of the floor and `adjacent wall to a vertical wall portion. As another example, the horizontal cove portion may be disposed on the upper side of the horizontal surface of kitchen equipment with vthe vertical portion of the cove disposed against an adjacent vertical wall or the like.
Coves having the curve connected horizontal and vertical portions are used in many locations to conceal the angular yjointure of angularly related ksurfaces `and y for otherpurposes.
Difficulty has'been experienced 'in concealing or connecting `the adjacent sections of cove material as `in Va corner where the vertical walls or `the like are angularly related, commonly at right angles.
In a corner, the adjacent edges of Vadjacent cove ksections extend vertically downwardly, Vthen curve outwardly and downwardly and horizontally so as to bisect the angle between the vertical1 portions.
Separate lengthsof strip material have been used ,for the vertical and horizontal edges of the cove sections with another section of material for the curving zone of the edges. The lresults have been more or less makeshift with an undesirable appearance.
According to the lnovel features -of this invention a single or continuous Amember is provided for the adjacent edges of adjacent cove.sectionsin a corner and is, formed to kreceive the edges throughout-the vertical, curved and horizontal portions of said edges.
The novel features of the invention in the present preferred form thereof will be described in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein:

Fig. 6 is a sectional view on line 6--6 of Fig. 5.
Referring now to the` drawings more in detail the novel features of the invention will be described.
The connecting device of the invention is represented by 2 and consists of an elongated strip or body of any suitable material such as aluminum or the like.
Said body has an elongated outer element 4 and an inner element 6 which may be narrower than said outer element. The elements 4 and 6 are connected by an atent O ICS elongated web or rib A8 vin such a -wayhas to provide a space therebetween.
Side `edges or flanges 4 and 6 of the elements form channels 9 therebetween which vopen along `the opposite sides of the body for receiving adjacent edgesof adjacent covesections.
By reference to ',Fig. 4 for illustrative purposes cove sections 10 have vertical and ` horizontal portions 1,2 and 14 `which are connected b y curving `portions 1 5. The angle between ,the vertical portions ro f the c ove sections is 90 degrees, inthe illustration.
The body /2 is curved intermediate its opposite ends, as at c to agree with the curvature c ofthe edges o f the cove Vsections to provide verticaland horizontal leg por.- tions 12"and 14'.V
The elements 4 and 6 of the horizontal leg portion u14 of the devicegare coplanar, as shown, to agree with vthe horizontal portions 1'4of the `cove sections 10.
The side-flanges 4' and ,6' of the vertical leg portion Y1,2' of the ,device are disposed `relatively angularly to agree with the angular relation of the vertical portions k1,2 of ,the coves, asxshown in lFigs. y`3 and 5.
vThe flanges 4 and 6' ofthe vertical leg of the device and said flangesgof the vhorizontal leg of said device merge through the cur-ving zone c ofthe device.
'That is Athe angularly disposedside flanges in the vertir' cal leg 12of the device as "they extend through the curved zone c gradually assume a coplanar relation linto the horizontal'tleg portion14f.
Thus thedevice receives and connects ythe ,adjacent edges'of adjacent cove sections throughout the yertical, curving and horizontal portions ofsaid edges.
Then device snugly receivesv the `adjacent edges` of adjacent covegsection whereby tohold the sections in place. The device may be secured in place bybradsser ews or whatevermeans maybe desired.
It will be notedl that the body or strip is so ,formed thatfthe `side lianges are shaped to provide channels for receiving the adjacent vertical, curving and horizontal edges o'flcove sections which are disposed angularly `as in a corner.
The body orstripgmay be made'in any `length desired andthe side flanges of the vertical leg may be ,relatively disposed `to agree with any angular relation of lthe vertical portions of the cove sections. The curving zone of the stripmaybe `made to conform withqany` curvature suclh as v'c' of the cove sections which vresults from `the relative angle of gthe vertical portions `of'the covesections andthe curve 1 5thereof. 4 vWhile the covejoiner-is shown for the adjacent edges of cove members inside of a vertical corner it s adaptedl for use with cove members at the outside ofa vertical corner. In either case the portions 4 and 6 of ,the verticalfileg of the -cove joiner will be angularly disposed andgradually-fiatten out Vthrough the curving zone.
Having described the invention in the form at present preferred I desire to claim and secure by Letters Patent of the United States the following:
1. A molding for connecting adjacent mitered edges of cove sections having vertical and horizontal portions connected by curved portions with the vertical portions disposed angularly comprising, a body having an elongated relatively thin rear element and an elongated relatively thin forward element of relatively less transverse width than said rear element and spaced forwardly thereof and connected thereto by a longitudinally extending rib of relatively narrow transverse width disposed intermediate midway between opposite side edges of said elements forming therewith channels open along opposite longitudinal sides of the body for receiving adjacent edges of adjacent cove sections, said body having an upper vertical portion and an intermediate portion curv-` 'asaaoeaing outwardly and forwardly from the lower end thereof 2. A molding for adjacent mitered complemental edges of cove sections each having upper vertical and lower forward horizontal coplanar portions connected-by inte'rmediate -po'rtons of a certain curvature and .being relatively disposed with said vertical portions at a ninety degree angle and the horizontal portions in. coplanar relationship and the edges ofthe intermediate portions having a relatively dilerent curvature comprising, a uni. tary elongated body having a longitudinally extending relatively thin outer element and a longitudinally extending 'relatively thin. inner element of relatively less transverse width than said outer element connected thereto in spaced relation intermediate opposite longitudinal edges of said elements by a longitudinally extending relatively narrow rib forming with said elements a pair of channels open along opposite longitudinal sides of the body for'receiving adjacent end edges of adjacent cove sections, said body having upper vertical and a lower forward horizontal portionconnected by an intermediate downwardly Aand forwardly extending curving portion, opposite longitudinal sides of the outer and inner elementsof the upper portion of the body being angularly disposed to agree with the certain angular relation of the upper vertical portions of the cove sections, opposite longitudinal sides of the elements of the curving intermediate body portion Lfrom the upper portion of the body gradually decreasing in angularity to agree with the edges of different curvature of the intermediate portions of cove section'srand lower opposite longitudinal sides of the elements in the lower portion of the body disposed in coplanar relation to agree with the planes of the horizontal portions of the cove section members.
3. A molding for connecting adjacent mitered edges of cove sections having vertical and horizontal portions connected by curved portions comprising, a body having an elongated rearlelement andan elongated forward element of relatively less transverse widthl than said rear element and spacedforwardly thereof and connected theref toby a longitudinallyextending rib of relatively narrow transverse width disposed intermediate opposite side edges of said rear and forward elements forming therewith a pair ofvopen channels on opposite longitudinal sides of said body for receiving adjacent edges of adjacent cove sections, .said body having an .upper vertical portion and aninte'rmediate portion cur-ving outwardly and forwardly 4 extending forwardly from the intermediate portion, opposite longitudinal'side portions of said rear and forward elements of the upper portion of said body being relatively angularly disposed, opposite longitudinal side portions of said rear and forward elements of the horizontal portion of said body being coplanar, and the opposite side portions of said rear and forward elements of the intermediate portion of said body decreasing in angularity from the side portions of the upper portion of said body and merging into the coplanar relationship thereorc of the side portions of the lower portion of said body.
4. A molding for adjacent mitered 'complemental'edges of a pair of cove sections having upper vertical and lower horizontal coplanar portions connected by intermediate portions of a certain curvature and being relatively disposed with the vertical portions at a ninety degree angle to each other and the horizontal portions in'coplanar relationship andA with the edges of the i1:ltermediate portions merging into the adjacent vertical and horizontal portions comprising, a unitary. elongated body having a longitudinally extending relatively thin outerv element and a longitudinally extending relativelythin inner element of relatively less transverse width and connected thereto in spaced relation intermediate the opposite longitudinal edges of said outer and inner' elements by a longitudinally extending narrow rib forming' with lsaid outer and inner elements a pair of open channels on opposite longitudinal sides of said body for receiving the end edges of adjacent cove sections, said body having an upper vertical portion and a lower horif zontal portion connected by an intermediate curving portion, vopposite sides of said outer and inner elements`of to agree with the planes of the horizontal portions of from'the lower end thereof `andahorizontal portion the cove sections.
