Description

March 25, 1958 B scH GARMENT Filed Oct. 31, 1955 United States Patent GARMENT Benjamin Scharf, Highland Park, N. J.
Application October 31, 1955, Serial No. 543,643
1 Claim. (Cl. 2212) This invention relates to improvements in garments and is more particularly directed to the provision of a garment comprising an inner pants portion and a skirt portion of greater length than the pants portion to which the same is afiixed in such manner that the skirt will normally cover the pants portion, the latter secured to the skirt at the waist band. Each of the garment parts has a slot along a portion of its length opening to the waist member, and has separable fastening means along the margins thereof along the slot for closing and opening the slot at the will of the user. The skirt portion is provided with separable fastening means at the waist band of the skirt in line with the slot therein.
A further feature of the invention is in the provision of separable fastener means at the waist band of the skirt in line with the slot therein, whereby, after the slot portions have been closed, the waist band may be tightened at the slot portion areas. When the pants are partly or wholly exposed in swirling of the skirt member, a one-piece garment effect will be attained, defined by the pants and the underside of the skirt member. This swirling effect is attained as the pants are shorter than and thus concealed (Figs. 1 and 2) by the skirt portion, and further, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the skirt is full and has folds so that on turning, a swirling effect is attained. This swirling effect may be utilized with applicants structure by forming the pants and the skirt (or a liner 9 for the interior of the skirt) of the same pattern; a one-piece garment effect would be attained. Thus also the possibility of error in using mismates is reduced. The arrangement of partial slots and fastener means above mentioned enables the garment to be conformed to the users body to avoid slipping and hiking 1n use.
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a one piece garment embodying the invention,
Fig. 2 is a similar view thereof, showing the slot portions of the skirt and pants portions thereof open, and
Fig. 3 is a similar view showing the skirt turned up. disclosing further details of construction and Fig. 4 is a vertical sectional view taken at line 4-4 of Fig. 2 through the skirt and inner liner thereof.
As shown in the drawings, the garment of the inventions comprises a pair of pants 3 having a waist band 1 and a slot extending for a portion of the length of the pants, opening to said waist band, separable fastener means 7 being disposed along the portions of the pants defining the margins thereof along the slot for closing and opening the slot at the will of the user. A skirt member 5 of greater length than the pants, is provided. said skirt being suitably secured to the waist band and having a slot 4 opening to the waist band of substantially equal length to the length of the partial slot in the pants. Separable fastener means are provided along the portions of the skirt defining the margins thereof, along the slot thereof, for closing and opening the slot at the will of the user. Separable fastener means 8 are provided at the waist band of the skirt in line with the slot therein. The skirt and pants member are preferably stitched together at the waistband so as to align the slot portions. The ends 6 of the leg portions of the pants members are provided with elastic means for contraction thereof about the legs of the user. The skirt has an inner liner of the same pattern as the pants member, so that when the skirt is swirled, as for example, in roller skating or ice skating (for which the garment is particularly adapted) the effect attained is that of a one piece garment.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A garment comprising an outer skirt member, a waistband at one edge of said skirt member, said waistband being open and defining free ends of said waistband, means for securing the free ends on said waistband, together, a pair of pants attached to the Waistband in underlying relation to said skirt member, said pants having an outer face and having an opening extending downwardly from the waistband opening for a portion of the pants length, said outer skirt member being of a length greater than that of the pants, said outer skirt member having a marginal opening extending downwardly from the waistband in alignment with the opening in the pants and of substantially equal length to said pants opening, separable fastening means for said skirt member opening, separable fastening means for the marginal opening of the waistband, separable fastening means for the pants opening, means at the pants bottoms for constricting the same about the legs of the wearer, a liner for the skirt member, said liner being compatible in design to the material of the outer face of the pants, so that when the outer skirt member is lifted above the pants in swirling of the skirt member, a one-piece garment effect will be defined by the pants and the liner of the skirt member.
