and a rigid slide comprising a frame having a pair of transverse parallel slots with a cross piece therebetween looped by the oppositefree extremity of said strap passing through'said parallel slots, said loop forming between its cross bars an opening including two portions of different respective widths located one behind the other in the longitudinal direction, the inside width of one portion of said opening being wider than the outside width of said slide to permit free passage of said slide therethrough, the other portion of said opening having a pair of parallel 'longitudinally extending sides so positioned that the inside width of said rear portion of said opening is smaller than the outside width of said slide, whereby said slide can rest upon said parallel sides of said loop when the slide and the loop are assembled together in fastening position. l
For the sake of clarity, in the following description and claims, I will call rear end of the loop the end thereof to which is secured one of the extremities of the strap, the front end of said loop vbeing ktherefore the other end thereof. The same convention concerning the direction according to which the words front and rear are used also applies to the slide when said slide is assembled with the loop in closing position.
The object of my invention is to provide a fastening device of this type which is better adapted to meet the requirements of practice than those known up to this time.
According to my invention, the portion of the opening of the loop which is of greater width is the front portion of said opening, i. e. that which is limited by the front cross bar of said loop, and the sum of the thickness of the strap and of the distance from the front edge of the cross piece of the slide to the rear edge of said slide is greater than the distance from the rear edge of the front cross bar of said loop to the front ends of said parallel longitudinal sides of the rear portion of said loop, whereby in the closed position of the fastening device, the slide has its rear edge resting upon the front ends of said parallel sides, the front ends of said parallel sides acting, when the fastening device is to be opened, as slideways for the rear edge of the slide.
According to another feature of my invention, the rear edge of the slide is provided with a guiding projection which, in the closed position, penetrates into the opening of smaller width of the loop and the ends of which constitute abutments bearing upon the inner side walls of said opening to prevent transverse sliding displacements of the slide with respect to the loop.
Preferred embodiments of my invention will be hereinafter described with reference to the accompanying drawings, given merely by way of example and in which:

Fig. 4 shows the fastening device of Fig. 2 but in the position occupied by the parts thereof when the Slide is going to be removed from the loop.
The slide 1 includes two slots 4 and 5 with a cross piece 6 therebetween. A flexible strap 3 has one of its ends 3a looped around said cross piece 6 as shown by Figs. 2 and 3,k said strap first passing from under the slide through the rear slot 4 thereof, then in the opposite direction through the front slot 5 thereof.
Loop 2, to th@l rear cross bar 2b of which the other end 3b of strap 3 is to be secured, has the following particular shape:
The opening formed in said loop includes two portions Y and Z of different widths and only the portion of greater width Z makes it possible for slide 1 to pass therethrough. According to the present invention, this portion Z of greater width is the front portion of loop 2, so that it is limited by the front cross har 2a of said loop, and slidev 1 is arranged in such manner that in the closed position of the fastening device its rear bar 1a rests upon the front ends of the parallel longitudinal sides 2c and 2d of the loop, which limits the portion Y of smaller 4width of the opening of the loop, the front ends of said sides 2c and 2d acting as slideways for the rear end of the slide when the fastening device is to be opened.
Advantageously, the rear bar 1a of slide 1 is provided with guiding projections or fins 10 arranged so that when the slide is inserted in closing position said fins are engaged in the rear opening (of smaller width) Y of the loop. Thus, the ends-10c and 10d of said fins act as abutments bearing against the inner edges of the sides 2c and 2d of the loop in order to prevent transverse relative displacements of the loop and of the slide.
Of course, the elements 1 and 2 of the fastening device may be made of metal, plastic material, etc.
However, in order to reduce the cost of manufacturing the fastening device according to my invention, loop 2 is preferably obtained by bending a metal element such as a wire of round-shaped or other cross section. Advantageously, slide 1 is obtained from a metal sheet in a single operation giving this element its nal shape by cutting and stamping.
A fastening device such as above described makes it possible when slide 1 is in the closing positon, such as shown by Figs. 2 and 3, to tighten strap 3 merely by pulling the -end 3a thereof.
In order to obtain instantaneous opening of the device it suffices to pull up the front end of slide 1 by acting upon its lug 9, as shown on Fig. 4. Slide 1 is thus made to pivot about its/cross piece 6 which is pulled by its strip 3 While the rear edge of said slide is slidably guided by the sides 2c and 2d of the loop, until the rear edge 1a of said slide engages into the portion Z of larger width of loop 2 and the slide is driven through said pori tion Z by the pull of strap 3.
It should be Well understood that while this fastening device is particularly suitable for mounting on straps or at bands, it is however not limited to such use and it might be mounted on an element of other cross section, for instance a rounded cable or the like. In the appended claims, this element will be called a bond.
In a general manner, While I have, in the above description, disclosed what I deem to be practical and eicient embodiments of my invention, it should be well understood that I do not wish to be limited thereto as there might be changes made in the arrangement, disposition and form of the parts without departing from the principle of the present invention as ,comprehended.;l Within the scope of the accompanying claims.
