A main object of the linvention is toprovidega'novel and improved undergarment whichisfsiniplefin'construe` tion, which is comfortable to -wear,'and vwhich provides a substantial degree of body support while permitting free movement of the portions of the body adjacent thereto.

A further object of the invention is to provide an improved mans undergarment which is easy to put on'and to `take off, which is neat in appearance, which provides rm support of the portions of thel body received therein while at the same time 'being-readily yieldable so as to allow -fr'ee movement of said body portions, being easy to launder, and requiring Va minimum number of stitching operations in the fabrication thereof.

A still further object of the invention is to provide an improved mans undergar-ment of the type yhaving a waistband and which also serves as asupportensupporting the portions of the body received therein substantially directly from said waistband.

Further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following description and claims, and from the accompanying'dra'wings, wherein:

Figure 1 is a front elevational lview with a part broken away, of an improved mans undergarment constructed in accordance with the present invention.

Figure 2 is a front elevational 'view of the undergarment of Figure l with the front flap thereof in open :position.

Figure 3 is a perspective view showing the manner in which the undergarment of Figures l and 2 acts as a yieldable support for portions of the body received therein.

Figure 4 is an enlarged transverse vertical cross sectional view taken on line 4-4 of Figure 3.

Figure 5 is a perspective view, similar to Figure 3, but showing the front flap of the undergarment in open position.

Referring to the drawings, the improved undergarment is generally designated at 11 and comprises a tubular body of yieldable fabric material, shown at 12, for example, rubberized fabric material or suitable knit fabric material having elastic qualities, the body 12 comprising an upper back portion of relatively large width, including the respective side wing portions 13, 13. Secured to the top margin of the upper back portion of body 12 is a waist band 14. The back portion of body 12 tapers downwardly to dene ya relatively narrow crotch portion 15 at its lower end, extending from the midportion of the bottom margin of the body 12.

The respective side portions of the body 12 merge with a front ap 16, del-ined by inverting the front portion of the body, which is joined to the lower portions of the sides of the main body 12, as by the joining sections 17, 17, the front ap 16 being preferably of substantial width, so that it may overlap the end portions of the waist band 14 when in its elevated position, for example, the

position shown in Figures 1 and 3. The end portions of the waist band 14 arer provided with spaced snap fastener elements K 18, andthe flap 16 is provided at its margin with a waist band `section 19 to the d'end portions of which are secured cooperating snap fastener elements 20, 20, as shown in Figure 2, adapted to lockingly interengage with selected snap fastener elements 18, whereby the flap 16 may be'secured in its closed position,fshown in Figures 1 and 3.

The bottom edge of the front flap member 16, yas viewed in Figure 4, is connected to theopposite edge of the crotch vportion 15 by an elastic band 21 of substantial width, as shown in Figures 1 and 4, the band 21 being of any suitable rubberized webbing material having substantialstrength and 4being readily yieldable to conform with the contours of'the wearers body.

If so desired, the band 21 may ybe omitted, and the crotch :portionlS may be extended and may befas'tened to the Lbottom edge of the ap 16, so thatthe entire garmentmaybefmade of -a single piece of material suitably formed and shaped, 'and provided with 'the main waist band 14 and the flap waist band segment 19.

Asfabove mentioned, -th'e body '12ma`y 'be made -of a single piece of l'flexible fabric material, either of "rubberized fibers, or `ofjsuitably knit f'material. Alternatively, the 'main body 112 ofV the: garment may Ibe made pof'. sections suitably fastened together, as"-by `stitching or the like, in'orde'r to provide *economic 'utilization of 'rnaterial.

Obviously, any suitable fastener elements may be employed in place of the snap fastener elements 18, 20, for example, buttons and button holes, or the like.

If so desired, the garment may be constructed with a single waistband, namely, by combining the elements 19 and 14 in a unitary, continuous elastic waistband, or alternatively, the fasteners 18, 20 may be eliminated and the ends of waistband section 19 may be stitched to the end portions of waistband 14.

While a specific embodiment of an improved mans undergarment has been disclosed in the foregoing description, it will be understood that various modifications within the spirit of the invention may "occur to those skilled in the art. Therefore, it is intended that no limitations be placed on the invention except as defined by the scope of the appended claims.

What is claimed is:

l. In a mans undergarment, a tubular body of yieldable fabric material comprising an upper back portion of relatively large width, respective side wing portions merging with said back portion, a waist band on the top margin of said upper portion and side wing portions, a relatively narrow crotch portion extending from the mid portion of the bottom margin of said back portion, n front ap defined by inverting the front portion of said body, said inverted front portion extending upwardly and being formed and arranged to overlap the margins of said side wing portions, said inverted front portion being substan- Y tially smaller in width than said back portion, said inverted front portion tapering upwardly in width, whereby its top margin is substantially shorter than its bottom margin, an elastic band secured between said crotch portion the mid portion of the bottom margin of said back portion, a front flap defined by inverting the front portion of said body, said inverted front portion extending upwardly and being formed 4and arrangedto overlap the margins of said side wing portions, said inverted front portion being substantially smaller in width than said Iback portion, said inverted front portion tapering upwardly in width, whereby its top margin is substantially shorter than its bottom margin, an elastic hand secured between said crotch portion and the bottom edge of said inverted front portion, and interengaging fasteners on the top corner portions of said inverted front portion and the end portions of said waist band, said inverted front portion merging at its lower side portions with the lowerside portions of said back portion.

In a mans undergarment, a tubular body of yieldable fabric material comprising an upper back portion of relatively large width, respective side wing portions merging with said back portion, a waist band on the top margin of said upper portion and side wing portions, a relatively narrow crotch portion extending from the mid portion of the bottom margin of said back portion, a front ap defined by inverting the front portion of said body, said inverted front portion extending upwardly and being formed and arranged to overlap the margins of said side wing portions, said inverted front portion being substantially smaller in width than said back portion, said inverted front portion tapering upwardly in width, whereby its top margin is substantially shorter than its bottom margin, an elastic band secured between said crotch portion and the bottom edge of said inverted front portion, and means connecting the top corner portions of said inverted front portion to said waist band.

4. In a mans undergarment, a continuous tubular body of yieldable fabric material comprising an upper back portion of relativelylarge width, respective side wing portions merging with said back portion, a waist band on the top margin of said upper portion and side wing portions, an elastic, relatively narrow elastic crotch band secured to and extending from the midportion of the bottom margin of said back portion, a front ap defined by inverting the front portion of said body, the lower edge of said inverted front portion being secured to the forward end of said band and extending upwardly and being formed and arranged to overlap the margins of said side wing portions, said inverted front portion being substantially smaller in width than said back portion, said inverted front portion tapering upwardly in width, whereby its top margin is substantially shorter than its bottom margin, a waist band segment secured to the top margin of said inverted front portion, and interengaging fasteners on the end portions of said waist band segment and the end portions of said waist band, said inverted front portion merging at its lower side portions with the lower side portions of said back portion.

5. In a mans undergarment, a tubular body of yieldable fabric material comprising an upper back portion, respective side wing portions merging with said back portion, a waist band on the top margin of said upper portion and side wing portions, a relatively narrow crotch portion extending from the midportion of the bottom margin of said back portion, a front Hap dened by inverting the front portion of said body, said inverted front portion extending upwardly and being formed and arranged to overlap the margins of said side wing portions, said inverted front portion being Substantially smaller in width than said back portion, means connecting said crotch portion and the bottom edge of said inverted front portion, and means detachably connecting the top corner portions of said inverted front portion to said waist band.
