Description

PATENT ()FFICEO ANDRE SABATIER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVED POLISH FOR FURNITURE.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 28,779, dated June 19, 1860.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANDRE SABATIER, of
the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Polish for Furniture and other Articles; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact statement of the component parts and their proportions and the manner of compounding and using the same.
The componentparts are as follows: alcohol, one (1) quart; gum-benzoin, seven (7) ounces; linseed-oi], six (6) ounces, or nearly similar proportions. Themannerofcompoundingthesauie is as follows: First dissolve the gum-benzoin in the alcohol in abottle or other suitable vessel, and when the solution is perfect add the linseed-oil and shake, stir, or otherwise agitate them till well mixed.
The mixture should he kept in a closed bottle.
Before using this polish the bottle should be well shaken, for the oil will subside when it is allowed torest for anylength of time. When well mixed pour a small quantity upon a piece of flannel or other woolen fabric and rub it over as much of the surface of a piece of furniture or other articleas it will cover, and continue rubbing till the polish is dry and a brilliant gloss is obtained. It may be used on cabinet-work, picture-frames, and all articles of wood, whether previously varnished or not, marble, copper, or other metal, or on almost any other material capable of receiving a polish, and even on gilded work it rubbed gently and carefully. It dries very quickly, and when dry is not sticky.
I do not confine myself to the use of the precise proportions herein specified of the several ingredients, as such may be varied to some extent without materially changing the character of the polish; but
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- The polish composed of gum-benzoin, alcohol, and linseed-oil, in about the proportions herein specified.
A. SABATIER.
