Description

Oct. 20,' 1959 W. L. PINSON ROCKING CRADLE AND HIGH CHAIR DEVICE Filed April l5, 1957 'MAM TTQENE'K I United States Patent O RoCKlNG CRADLE AND HIGH CHAIR DEVICE william L. Pinson, Marana, Ariz.
Application April 15, 1957, Serial No. 652,793
' 1 Claim. (Cl. 5 109) This invention (pertains to a power driven rocking cradle and high chair device and is particularly directed to such a device which may be quickly and easily converted from cradle to rocking chair use as desired.
One of the objects of this invention is to provide a power driven arrangement which may be used for both rocking a cradle or -a high chair which can be changed from one to the other without altering the basic driving mechanism.
Another object is to provide a cradle and high chair rocking device having a power driven rocking platform upon which is pivotally mounted a cradle which may be swung to right angle position to convert the device from cradle use to high chair use.
Further features and advantages of this invention will appear from a detailed description of the drawings in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view showing a rocking cradle device incorporating the features of this invention.
Fig. 2 is a front view on the line 2--2 of Fig. 3 with the front panel removed.
Fig. 3 is a side view on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2 with the side panel removed.
Fig. 4 is a plan View of the device shown in the figures above.
Fig. 5 is an enlarged fragmentary section on the line 55 of Fig. 4.
As an example of one embodiment of this invention there is shown a rocking cradle and high chair having a base and a rocking platform 11 which is pivotally mounted by the brackets 12 fixed to the underside of the platform 11 on the trunnions 13 journaled in suitable bearings 14 in the upper part of the base'so as to rock about the horizontal axis 15. Fixed to and extending downwardly from the brackets 12 is the arm 16 which is pivotally connected at its lower end 17 with the link 18 in turn connected at 19 to a crank `arm 20 fixed on the shaft 21 of a suitable drive motor 22 fixed to the base 10 so that by appropriately energizing the motor 22, the platform 11 is tilted or rocked back and forth about the horizontal axis 15.
A cradle unit 23 has ya bottom 24 which rests` upon the top surface 25 of the rocking platform 11 and lis f, pivotally connected thereto by means of a pivot bolt 26,
Fig. 5, which extends through the bottom 24 and platform 11 and has a nut 27 which may be tightened against a suitable compression spring 28 to provide yielding frictional contact between the bottom 24 and platform `11 so that the cradle may at any time be swung aboutthe axis 29 of the bolt 26. A high chair unit 30 may be placed in the cradle 23 on the bottom 24 and secured by suitable holding devices at 31 if required.
Thus, there is provided a cradle and high chair device having a platform rocked by power from motor 22 about the horizontal axis 15, on top of which platform is a cradle unit which may be rotatably positioned on the platform about the vertical axis 29 so as to function as a high chair when positioned at 23a- 30 and which functions as a cradle when the cradle is positioned at 23h, Fig. 4.
While the apparatus herein disclosed and described constitutes a preferred form of the invention, it is also to be understood that the apparatus is capable of mechanical alteration without departing from the spirit of the invention and that such mechanical arrangement and commercial adaptation as fall within the scope of the appendent claim are intended to be included herein.
Having thus fully set forth and described this invention what is claimed and desired to be obtained by United States Letters Patent is:
A rocking cradle and high chair having in combination, a base rigidly supported on a floor, a rocking platform having a top surface, downwardly depending brackets fixed to said rocking platform below said top surface, horizont-ally disposed trunnions on the lower ends of said brackets journaled on the top portion of said base defining a horizontal axis of rocking movement thereon, an arm fixed to and extending downward from said brackets, a motor fixed in the bottom of said base having a motor shaft, a crank arm fixed to said motor shaft, a link pivot ally connected at one end to the outer end of said crank arm and pivotally connected at its other end to the lower end of said downwardly extending arm vso that energizing of said motor causes rocking of said platform about the axis of said trunnions, a cradle unit, a bottom in said cradle unit having a bottom surface engaging said top surface of said platform, and a pivot bolt extending References Cited in the file of this patent UNITED STATES PATENTS 55,401 Warren June 5, 1866 157,269 Cobb Dec. 1, 1874 186,870 Patch Ian. 30, 1877 697,248 Hawley Apr. 8, 1902 1,266,268 Hollowell May 14, 1918 1,389,480 Berman Aug. 30, 1921 2,380,355 Worley July 10, 1945 2,637,554 Terreson May 5, 1953 2,696,207 Bushnell Dec. 7, 1954 2,726,870 Auger Dec. 13, 1955 2,758,319 Fehrman Aug. 14, 1956 2,776,658 Gibbon Jan. 8, 1957 2,830,815 Hawes Apr. 15, 1958 Y FOREIGN PATENTS 269,940 Switzerland Nov. 1, 1950
