2 Claims. (Cl. 128-67) This invention relates to massage devices, and more particularly, to a massage device for the scalp, face, and body that may be readily attached to a domestic type vacuum cleaner.

It has been found that suction devices can produce a very stimulating and beneficial massage action on the body. Accordingly, an object of this invention is to provide a vacuum type massage device that may be readily attached to any standard vacuum type cleaner that is simple in construction, eflicient in operation, and which is capable of producing very stimulating and beneficial results.

Another object of the present invention is to provide a vacuum type massage device that combines the advantages of vacuum pressure for stimulating various parts of the body, together with the rubbing or pressure action of a flexible body member.

A still further object of the present invention is to provide a massage device of substantially simple construction and which may be manufactured in large quantities at relatively low cost.

All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of this invention will become apparent from a study of the following specification taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, wherein:

Figure 1 is a perspective view of a device made in accordance with the present invention, in association with a domestic vacuum cleaner, and in operative use;

Figure 2 is a longitudinal cross sectional view of the massage device;

Figure 3 is a perspective view, with parts broken away, of an element of the device shown in Figure 2; and

Figure 4 is a perspective view of another element of the device shown in Figure 2.

Referring now to the drawing, a device made in accordance with the present invention is shown in operative association with a domestic type vacuum cleaner 12 having an inlet fitting 13, to which a flexible hose 15 is secured. The opposite end of the hose is in operative association with the massage device and is adapted to draw air inwardly through the massage device to the inlet 13 of the vacuum cleaner to produce the suction efiect.

As is more clearly shown in Figures 2 to 4 of the drawing, the massage device made in accordance with the present invention is shown to include a substantially L-shaped member 17 that includes a substantially rigid circular cylindrical portion 19 that forms one leg of the member and a substantially truncated hollow conical portion 20 that forms the base of the member.

The massage device also includes a hollow member 2,927,577 Patented Mar. 8, 1960 25 that has a substantially rigid conical portion 27, one end of which is provided with a transverse end wall 29 that defines a central opening 31, while the opposite end thereof is provided with a flexible beaded edge 28. In using this apparatus, the L-shaped member 17 may be used by itself to massage the face and various other fleshy parts of the body. The truncated conical base portion 20 of this member is constructed of a substantially flexible material so that it may mold itself to various portions of the body during use and which construction further stimulates the massaging action. If desired, the hollow member 25 may be inserted into the openend of the base 20 of the L-shaped member so that the flexible beaded edge 28 may be used to massage the scalp, in the manner shown in Figure 1.

As the slope of the conical base portion 20 of the L-shaped member and the slope of the rigid portion 27 of the hollow member 25 are of substantially the same degree, the parts are readily telescoped with each other, as shown in Figure 2, whereby substantially no loss of suction pressure results. As such, the air entering the open end of the device is drawn inwardly through the central opening 31, into the L-shaped member 17 and directly into the flexible hose 15 of the vacuum equipment.

While this invention has been described with particular reference to the construction shown in the drawing, it is to be understood that such is not to be construed as imparting limitations upon the invention, which is best defined by the claims appended hereto.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent: I

1. A manual massage device comprising, in combination, a hollow L-shaped member having a substantially rigid leg having one end for attachment to a flexible fluid flow conducting conduit, a substantially flexible base integral with the opposite end of said rigid leg, an outwardly diverginghollow'member removably received within said flexible base of said L-shaped member, said outwardly diverging hollow member defining a substantially rigid truncated conical portion having an inner end wall at one smaller end and a flexible beaded outer edge at the opposite larger end, said inner end wall of said conical portion defining a centrally disposed opening accommodating the passage of air therethrough, said flexible base of said L-shaped member being of substantially truncated conical configuration having an outer wall of substantially the same slope as said rigid conical portion of said hollow member, and said flexible base of said L-shaped member slidably receiving said one end of said rigid truncated conical portion therewithin.

2. A massage device as set forth in claim 1, wherein said leg of said L-shaped member is of circular cylindrical shape and is adapted to be removably received within a flexible conduit.
