2 Claims. (Cl. 128-290) This invention relates to improvements in sanitary napkins.

The principal object of this invention is to provide a sanitary napkin with a deodorant enclosed therein.

A further object is to provide a sanitary napkin wherein the deodorant is contained in a separate package and exposed to the atmosphere only when the napkin is being used.

A further object is to provide a means for dispensing of the deodorant, which may take the form of a sachet or of other volatile substances without the possibility of the deodorant coming in contact with the body of the user so as to cause irritation to the skin, as some persons are allergic to the essential oils.

Other objects and advantages will be apparent during the course of the following description.

Fig. 1 is a fragmentary end view of a sanitary napkin in extended position and having my invention applied thereto;

Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1;

Fig. 3 is a similar cross-sectional view showing the attaching tab of the napkin in folded position; and

Fig. 4 is a similar view showing a separable capsule containing the deodorant.

An ordinary sanitary napkin is usually made of a pad of absorbent material enclosed in a gauze wrapping. The ends of the wrapping are used to attach the napkin to suitable supporting means worn by the user.

In packing these napkins they are folded so that the end tabs lie parallel to the body of the pad. This wrapping material is somewhat stretchable.

In using my invention, I depend upon the unfolding and stretching of the material to separate portions of the deodorant container.

In the accompanying drawings, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 5 designates the pad as a whole, which consists of an absorbent material 6 having a covering 7 which covering extends beyond the end of the pad so as to form a tab 8, which tab is used to secure the pad to a garment of the user.

My invention consists in inserting an envelope-like con- 2,940,449 Patented June 14, 1960 tainer 9 adjacent the end of the pad and within the gauze wrapping or covering 7.

This envelope-like container is secured to the gauze at the point A either by stitching or through the use of an adhesive. The opposite end of the container is secured to the gauze at the point B either by stitching or through the use of an adhesive.

The result of this construction is that when the tab 8 is unfolded from the position shown in Fig. 3 and stretched to the position shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the envelope-like container will be torn so that the sachet or other deodorant contained in said impervious envelope will be released. The body warmth of the user will cause the essential oils therein to become volatilized thus completely hiding any otherwise objectionable odors which might emanate from the pad.

In the modified form shown in Fig. 4 I have employed a separable capsule made of parts C and D which are adhered to the gauze in such a manner that when the same is stretched, the two parts of the capsule will be pulled apart, thus releasing the contents of the capsule, which contents consist of deodorant substances.

It will thus be seen that I have constructed a sanitary napkin which will accomplish all of the objects above set forth.

It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same and that various changes relative to the material, size, shape and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.

Having thus described my invention, I claim:

1. In combination with a sanitary napkin having a pad and a gauze cover therefor, of a receptacle positioned in said napkin at a point between said pad and said gauze covering and adjacent the end of said pad, said receptacle being separable, so that the contents thereof will be released when said parts are separated, and means for adhering the opposite ends of said receptacle to said gauze, whereby the stretching of said gauze will cause said separation.

2. In combination with a sanitary napkin having a pad and a gauze cover therefor, of a receptacle positioned on said gauze, one end of said receptacle being secured to said gauze at a point adjacent said pad, the opposite end of said receptacle being secured to said gauze at a point greater than the length of said receptacle, thereby creating excess 'gauze material between the ends of said receptacle whereby when said gauze is stretched to its full length said receptacle will be stretched and ruptured to release its contents.
