Filed Oct. 20, 1958, Ser. No. 768,422
1 Claim. (Cl. 2-46) This invention relates to disposable garments designed for use by babies, children or adults who are physically or mentally unfit or unable to take care of themselves.
Another object of the invention is to provide a disposable garment to be worn by laboratory workers, or attendants whose duty it is to care for babies, children or handicapped persons, wherein it becomes necessary for the laboratory worker or attendant to dispose of such apparel after the garment has been used.
An important object of the invention is to provide a garment of the character which is constructed preferably of a soft absorbent tissue to provide a throw-a-way garment, thereby eliminating the necessity of washing the garment and avoiding the possibility of the attendant becoming contaminated as a result of handling the garment.
A further object of the invention is to provide a garment of the disposable type having means for efiecting the ready removal of the garment from the body of the user with the minimum amount of effort on the part of the attendant.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts, hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claim, it being understood that canges may be made in the construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure 1 is a front elevational view of a garment constructed in accordance with the invention.
Fig. 2 is a rear elevational view thereof.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken on line 4-4 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 5 is a sectional view taken on line 55 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 6 is a perspective view of a blanket constructed of material to warrant the disposal of the garment.
Referring to the drawing in detail, a garment is indicated by the reference character 5, which garment is constructed of soft absorbent tissue material having its outer surface 6 made moisture repellant to insure cleanliness.
As shown, the garment is provided with a cutting cord 7 which is secured by gluing the cord to the inner sur face of the garment at the back thereof, with one end thereof extending below the bottom edge of the garment where it is easily accessible and may be readily pulled to cut the garment longitudinally to open the garment and allow the garment to be readily removed.
The front of the garment will be normally held closed by strips of tissue constructed to simulate bows 8 secured to the garment by adhesive material 8' on one side of the strips. Thus it will be seen that due to the construction shown and described, I have provided a garment having an inner absorbing surface and an outer moisture repellant wear surface to insure cleanliness, the garment being of the disposable type.
As shown by Fig. 6 of the drawing the particular type of material used in the construction of garments, is made into a blanket 5, providing a blanket of the disposable type.
Further it is contemplated to provide a carrying handle for the garments or blankets constructed in accordance with the invention, which handle may be in the form of a stop secured to the garment or blanket at the desired location.
It might also be stated that the articles made in accordance with the invention may be colored to meet the various requirements.
While I have shown and described a disposable garment in the form of a babys wrapper and'a blanket, it is to be understood that the principle of the invention may be carried out in the construction of various types of garments, such as bibs, sheets, sacks or the like, without departing from the spirit of the invention. Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:
A disposable open front garment constructed of soft absorbent material having a water repellant outer surface, strips of tissue simulating bow knots, having adhesive material on one side thereof, positioned across said open front of the garment with the adhesive material contacting the garment, for securing the open front of the garment normally closed around the body of the wearer, and a cutting cord secured longitudinally of the center of the back of the garment, said cord adapted to be pulled upwardly through the material at the back of the garment cutting the garment, opening said garment for removal from the wearer.
