Description

J. H. R. ALLY sept. 19, 1961 SANDAL 2 sheets-sheet 2 Filed July 51, 1959 INVENTOR 1li l ATTORNEYS United States Patent 3,000,116 SANDAL Joseph H. R. Ally, 2 Ropes St., Salem, Mass. Filed July 31, 1959, Ser. No. 830,916 1 Claim. (Cl. 36-2.5)
This invention relates to sandals, and more particularly to sandals that have replaceable members that will provide footwear of a variety of styles and colors.
It is therefore an important object of this invention to provide sandals that can be readily adapted to individual requirements of taste and style.
Another object of this invention is to provide sandals of different colors by means of the replaceable members that are reversible on assembly with the soles.
Another object of this invention is to provide sandals that embody replaceable and reversible members having a plurality of snaps or their equivalents as means of attachment for assembly of the footwear.
Still another object of this invention is to provide sandals that Will occupy a minimum of space -when disassembled for shipment or storage.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claim, it being understood that changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit and intent of the invention as claimed.
Referring to the drawings:
FIGURE l is a side view of this invention.
FIG. 2 is a top plan view of this invention.
FIG. 3 is a sectional view taken substantially along line 3-3 of FIG. 2 as viewed in the direction indicated by the arrows.
FIG. 4 is a sectional view taken substantially along line 4-4 of FIG. 1 as viewed in the direction indicated by the arrows.
FIG. 5 is a sectional view taken substantially along line 5-5 of FIG. l as viewed in the direction indicated by the arrows.
FIG. 6 is a sectional view taken substantially along line 6 6 of FIG. 3 as viewed in the direction indicated by the arrows.
FIG. 7 is a fragmentary detail of an optional form of one part of this invention.
FIG. 8 is a sectional view taken substantially along line 8 8 of FIG. l as viewed in the direction indicated by the arrows.
FIG. 9 is a. view of a detail of this invention in at pattern configuration.
FIG. 10 is an enlarged fragmentary detail of this invention.
FIG. 11 is a sectional view of one detail of this invention.
FIG. 12 is an exploded view in side elevation of this invention showing two of its details broken away.
Similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views of the drawings.
Having reference now to the drawings in detail, and in particular to FIGS. 1, 2 and 3, there is generally indicated by the reference character 15 a sandal embodying an inner sole 16 to which is secured a lfelt pad 17 on the underside thereof, along with a shank 18 that is convex as viewed in the direction indicated by the numerals V3,000,116* Patented Sept. 19, 1961 ICC 11-11 on FIG. 6 of the appended drawings. A welting 19 of leather or similar material encompasses the edge of the inner sole 16, and is formed with an upturned edge 20 having a plurality of female snap fasteners 21 in horizontal spaced relation to one another as clearly shown in FIGS. 1 and 12 of the drawings. The aforesaid welting 19 has a scallop-like edge 22 secured to the underside of the stated sole 16 which is now ready for the cementing of its outer sole 23, as best shown in FIG. 3. A vamp 24, which is made of ilexible leather or the like, and has male snap fasteners 25 secured to its lower edge, is now attached to the upturned edge 20 of the welting 19. This can be seen in FIGS. 1 and 5 of the drawings, where, in the aforesaid FIG. 5 a thick sponge rubber sole 26 is shown in place within the sandal 15. The sole 26 is of course not put into place on top of the inner sole 16 until both the stated vamp 24 and the back strap 26 with its attached regular strap 27 is snapped in place in the sandal, the vamp 24 being on the front end of the sandal and the 'back strap 26 being on the heel. This can be readily seen in FIG. l. It will be noted that the back strap also has female snap fasteners 25 securing it to the upturned edge 20 of the welting in exactly the same manner that the vamp 24 is attached to the forepart of the sandal, as has been previously described.
An optional form of back strap is shown in the fragmentary view, FIG. 7, and the flat pattern view, FIG. 9, and is noted by the reference character 28.
A heel 29 is secured to the sandal to complete the assembly of this invention.
-It is obvious from the description and drawings of this sandal that many modifications may be made, suchas changing the shape of the Vamp 24 and the back straps 26 or 28. 'I'hese and other elements of the sandal of course may be made in any color or combination of colors as desired, and they may be decorated or left plain as may suit the individual case.of the manufacturer.
This sandal may obviously be made for men, women or children, and in any size. Even the snap fasteners may be modiiied to have ornamental designs included on the heads, and a sock lining may be placed on top of the sponge rubber sole 26, if it is so desired. In fact, the lining 30, or covering as it may 4be called, is shown in FIGS. 3, 4 and 5 of the drawings.
From the foregoing it will now be seen that there is herein provided a sandal which accomplishes all of the objects of this invention, and others, including many advantages of great practical utility and commercial importance.
As many embodiments may be made of this inventive concept, vand as many modifications may be made in the embodiment hereinbefore shown and described, it will be understood that all matter herein is to be interpreted merely as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
What is claimed is:
A sandal embodying an inner sole having toe and heel portions a felt pad fitted within said sandal, a welt comprising a length of semi-rigid material, having its marginal edge secured around the marginal edge of said sole and extending upwardly therefrom, a Vamp section removably fitted within said toe portion of said sandal, with the lower edge of said vamp section resting against said welt, socket sections of head and socket fasteners, secured to said welt with said sockets facing inwardly, said head sections of head and socket fasteners secured along the lower edge of said vamp adapted to engage within said sockets, removably securing said vamp to said welt, and a back strap removably secured to the heel portion of said welt.
