According to the invention there is provided a bag closure characterised in that an open end of the bag is folded up and clamped fast between two faces of a substantially rigid clamp or clip arrangement; the latter is preferably formed of synthetic plastic material.

Thus the invention provides in an advantageous manner a closure for packing or like bags, which is simple in its construction and can be produced cheaply, does not make the substantially air-tight packing of any desired articles in synthetic plastic bags (which are preferably transparent) appreciably more expensive, but nevertheless closes the bag reliably and in substantially air-tight fashion, and can be used as often as desired.

An embodiment of the invention can be so constructed that two closure parts inter-engaging after the style of a press stud are connected with one another by a flexible web, and this web surrounds the folded bag end and clamps it fast in itself. Here the clamping effect of the web can advantageously be increased if the web is provided in one half with a rib-shaped projection and in the other half with a recess, in which the rib engages when the closure closes. Furthermore a joint or a point of greater flexibility can be provided between the two halves of the web, which in themselves are as rigid as possible. The opening and closing of the press-stud connection can be facilitated in accordance with the invention when on one hand the inner part of the press-stud connection is provided with a closure face and possibly its edge recedes somewhat at the edge remote from the web and on the other side the outer part is provided with an edge projection. In the case of this form of embodiment of the object of the invention also advertisements can be provided both on the web and on the inner part of the press-stud connection.

The invention is, illustrated by way of example by reference to the embodiment in the accompanying drawings, wherein:

FIGURE 1 shows in section, a closure with a clip web and a press-stud connection, and

FIGURE 2 shows a perspective representation of a bag end closed with the closure of FIGURE 1.

The bag closure represented in FIGURES l and 2 consists of a web 19 in strip form, which is halved by a part 20 which is made hinged. This can consist for example of a part with slighter wall thickness, while the other part of the web 19 is made relatively rigid. Alternatively the two halves of the web can be connected with one another by a hinge. On one half of the web 19 a rib 21 is attached on one side, and in the other half an opening 22 is provided, the internal width of which is somewhat greater than the base area of the rib 21. At one end of the web 19 there is provided a disc 23 with an annular groove 24. At the other end of the web there is a ring 25, the internal width of which corresponds approximately to Patented Sept. 26, 1961 the minimum diameter of the annular groove 24, and which can be provided for example on the side lying opposite to the web 19 with a projecting tongue 26. The disc 23, with groove 24 forms with the ring 25 and tongue 26 a press-stud-like connection, and the folded end of the bag 27 is closed, as may be seen from FIGURE 2, due to the fact that the two halves of the web 19 are folded together over the bag end, the rib 21 penetrating into the recess 22 and the bag end bulging towards one side in this recess 22. The ring 25 is pushed over the disc 23 and catches in the annular groove 24, so that the two halves of the web 19 with the clamped-in bag end are held firmly together by this press-studlike connection.

I claim:

1. A closure device for a bag or the like, comprising, in combination, two substantially rigid closure portions hingedly connected by an integral flexible portion, and movable relative to each other between a non-overlapping disengaged position and an engaged substantially abutting position, substantially superimposed upon each other, one of said closure portions being formed with an opening therethrough having a predetermined circumferential outline; a rigid and solid projection on the other closure portion having a circumferential outline which is throughout the height thereof similar to but slightly smaller than the circumferential outline of said opening in said one closure portion and arranged so that in engaged superimposed position of said closure portions said projection projects through said opening and beyond said one closure portion leaving between itself and the edge of said opening a slot; and releasable locking means for locking said closure portions in said engaged superimposed position thereof Whenever desired whereby a bag or the like may be securely closed by placing an end portion of the bag over said opening in said one closure portion and on the side thereof facing in the engaged position the other closure portion so that during moving of said portions of said engaged position the bag and portion will be partly deflected through said opening by engagement with said projection without being subjectedto excessive stresses during this deflection.

2. A closure device as defined in claim 1 in which said locking means includes a fiat disc fixedly fastened by a fiat surface thereof to one of said substantially rigid closure portions and in which the other of said closure portions is formed with an opening therein mating said disc for locking engagement.

3. A closure device as defined in claim 2 in which said flat disc is formed with an annular groove in the circumference thereof and in which said opening in the other of said closure portions mates said annular groove for locking engagement.
