COMBINED SOCKS AND NECKTIE DISPLAY PACKAGE Filed May 22, 1961 '3 Sheets-Sheet 3 INVENTOR. MAQVIN L. HOEFL'ICH BY A T7 GENE Y United States Patent 3,069,009 COMBINED SOCKS AND NECKTIE DISPLAY PACKAGE Marvin L. Hoeflich, 23 Suzanne Drive, Monsey, N.Y. Filed May 22, 1961, Ser. No. 111,650 Claims. (Cl. 206--'78) This invention concerns a necktie and sock display assembly, especially adapted to facilitate merchandising of neckties and socks in ensembles.
According to the invention there is provided a die-cut blank formed by folding into a set-up carton in which a package of socks may be inserted. The carton is detachably engaged and supported by a hanger on which a necktie is engaged and supported for display adjacent to the socks. The hanger has one hook for hanging on a rack or bracket and another hook for engaging a portion of the carton.
One object of the invention is to provide a die-cut blank adapted to be set-up for forming a necktie and sock display package.
Another object is to provide a necktie and sock display package adapted to be hung on a rack at a retail establishment.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying draw- .ings and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawings forming a material part of this disclosure:
FIG. 1 is an elevational view of a display rack upon which is mounted a plurality of necktie and display packages according to the invention.
FIG. 2 is an edgewise elevational view of one of the packages of FIG. 1 shown on part of the rack.
FIG. 3 is a plan view of the blank in flat, unfolded position.
FIG. 4 is a plan view of the hanger.
FIG. 5 is a front, perspective view of the carton in folded form.
FIG. 6 is a rear view of the carton in folded formwith hanger attached.
FIG. 7 is a sectional view taken on line 77 of FIG. 6, with a necktie and package of socks shown therein.
FIG. 8 and FIG. 9 are perspective views of a package of socks and a necktie folded for mounting in a display package according to the invention.
Referring to FIGS. 1 and 2 there is shown a plurality 'of display packages 10 on each of which is mounted a necktie 12 and a package 14 of socks 15. Each package includes a hanger 16 having a hook 18 at its upper end by means-of which the package is suspended from a horizontal bar 20 of a display rack 22. Each package of socks is mounted in a carton 25 suspended from a hanger 1'6.
The hanger 16 is shown to best advantage in FIG. 4. This member is a flat plastic plate having hook 18 at the top and two parallel slots 21" and 21 at the bottom defining flexible hooks 23 and 24.
The structure of the blank 25 from which carton 25 is formed is best shown in FIG. 3. This blank is formed from a bendable but stiff flat piece of cardboard. The blank has an elongated generally rectangular central panel portion 30 with a rectangular cut-out or opening 32. At the bottom end are two laterally extending wings 32, 34. Wing 32 has a slit 36 extending downwardly from top edge 38 to define an end flap 40. Wing 34 has a slit 42 extending upwardly from the bottom edge 44 to define another end flap 46. The end flaps 40 and 46 can be engaged and interlocked at the slits 36, 42 by 2 folding the wing 32 on spaced vertical lines L1, L2 and folding the wing 34 on spaced vertical lines L3, L4. A bottom panel or wall 48 for the carton is formed by folding the blank on line L5 aligned with'edge 38 and by a fold on line L6 spaced upwardly from line L5. The spacing of lines L1, L2 and L3, L4 is substantially equal to the spacing of lines L5, L6, to define the Width of the lower portion of the carton.
The folds on lines L1, L2 define one end wall or panel 45 for the carton and the folds on lines L3, L4 define an opposing wall or panel 47. Panel 49 is defined between folds L2, L3. The top of the blank is formed with two other laterally extending wings 50, 52. Slit 51 directed downwardly from top edge 54 of wing 50 defines end flap 55. Slit '56 directed upwardly from bottom edge 57 of wing 52 defines end flap 58. By folding wing 50 on spaced vertical lines L7, L8 and by folding wing 52 on spaced vertical lines L9, L10, the end flaps 55 and 58 can be superimposed and interlocked at slits 51, 56 to form an endless band B at the top of the carton; see FIG. 6, lines L7, L8 define one end Wall or panel 62 for the band. Lines L9, L10 define an opposing end wall or panel 64. A front wall or panel 60 for the band B is defined between fold lines L8 and L9. A narrow rectangular bridge 66 is formed between panel 60 and the central panel 30. This bridge is defined between horizontal fold lines L11, and L12. When the carton is set-up, the bottom hook 24 of hanger 16 engages under the bridge 66 to support the carton.
In FIG. 8 is shown a conventional type of package 14 for a pair of nested, stretch socks 15. The socks are stretched over a flat cardboard strip 35 and the assembly is folded flat across at 37 to dispose the foot portion 15 of the socks behind the ankle portion 15*.
'In FIG. 9 is shown a necktie 12 folded substantially in half at an intermediate portion to form a loop 13. The loop 13 is engaged on hook 23 of the hanger in the display package 10.
FIGS. 5 and 6 show details of a set-up carton 25 and FIGS. 1, 2 and 7 show how a necktie and package of socks are mounted thereon for most effective display. A flat box B with closed bottom and open top is formed at the bottom of the carton as shown in FIGS. 5 and 7 when the bottom wings are folded on lines L1-L4 and the bottom panel 49 is folded up on lines L5, L6. The interlocking of the flaps 40, 44 behind the central panel 30 securely forms and holds the walls of the bottom box. The central panel 30 extends upwardly at the rear of the carton to the bridge 66 which is horizontally disposed and connects with the front panel 60. Panel 60 is coplanar with bottom panel 49. End flaps 55 and 58 are interlocked behind central panel 30 to form the endless band B.
The loop 13 of the necktie 12 is engaged over the upper hook 23 of the hanger 16. The superimposed front portion 12 and back portion 12 of the necktie are juxtaposed and pass downwardly through the band B between panel 30 and the interlocked wings 50, 52. The necktie hangs down behind the carton and is displayed below the socks 15. The package of socks 15 is inserted in the bottom box B with fold 37 on panel 48. The ankle end 15 of the socks is engaged between panels 30 and 60 at band B. This effectively displays the pattern if any on the socks between panels 49 and 60. And the pattern if any on display portion 12 of the necktie is exposed and displayed below the carton.
A particular advantage of the invention is the substantially flat array of the displayed socks and necktie. Socks and a necktie can be displayed in a matching ensemble. The invention facilitates merchandising of necktie-sock ensembles; assists customers in making selections; and permits many ensembles to be suspended on a display rack in a very small space. The socks and neckties are supported so that they always remain wrinklefree, fresh appearing and attractive for most efiective merchandising. I
The blank 25 is readily set up to form the carton 25 and then the desired package of socks is inserted in the bottom box B. A hanger is engaged on the bridge 66 and a necktie 12 can then be engaged on the upper hook 23. The necktie and socks can readily be removed from the assembled package without wrinkling.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise construction herein disclosed and that various changes and modifications may be made within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:
