Description
Dec. 31, 1963 l -L'D. BLOODWORTH BED PAN WITH DISPOSABLE LINER Filed July 31, 1961 INVENTOR. HENRYDBLaoDWoRrH United States Patent 3,115,644 BED PAN WITH DIISPOSABLE LENER Henry D. Bloodworth, 635 E. 7th St, Lockport, Ill. Filed .luly 31, 1961, Ser. No. 128,146 4 Claims. (Cl. 4--112) This invention relates generally to hospital and sickroom accessories. More specifically, the invention relates to bed pans and the like.
It is an object of the invention to provide an improved bed pan for patients having a disposable liner, thus eliminating the unpleasant task for cleaning the bedpan and also saving considerable time for the sickroom attendant.
It is another object of the invention to provide a liner for a bed pan or the like which may be conveniently stored in a collapsed position, thus requiring minimum storage space in the hospital or in the sick room.
It is another object of the invention to provide a disposable bed pan liner bearing the above objects in mind which is of simple construction, has a minimum number of parts, is inexpensive to manufacture and efficient in use.
For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, in which:
FIGURE 1 is a side view of the bedpan shown in elevation and shown partly in cross section;
FIG. 2 is an end elevational view thereof;
FIG. 3 is a top plan view of the bedpan; and
FIG. 4 is an end view of the bedpan showing a disposaable liner attached thereto and showing the device partly in cross section.
Referring now in detail to the drawing, the numeral represents a bedpan according to the present invention wherein there is an open chamber 11 having a bottom Wall 12, side walls 13 and end walls 14. The upper edge of the side and end walls is turned outwardly and down to form a flange 15, as shown in FIGS. 2 and 3. The bedpan is provided with a top wall 16 and the opposite walls 13 are each provided with a notch 17 at the point where the side flanges terminate. A disposable liner 18 is made of paper and the section thereof that lines the interior of the bedpan is waxed to be Waterproof and also for the purpose of retaining the contour of the bedpan more readily. The upper portion of the liner 18 is left unwaxed and the upper portion 19 is made to be folded under the flange 15 of the pan 10 and also into the grooves 17 thereof.
While various changes may be made in the detail con- 3,115,644 Ice Patented Dec. 31, 1963 struction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claims.
