Description
June 23, 1964 B. MIZERAK MONEY SAFETY POCKET UNDERSHORTS Filed July 12, 1962 k g 1 f g 3 w i f m 5 I z E av w Z-.. Z4 g JI 8% m 2 Am: M Z +fi a INVENTOR. BASIL. M IZERAK United States Patent 3,137,862 MONEY SAFETY POCKET UNDERSHORTS Basil Mizerak, Fleet Post Olfice, US. Navy Ship Craig, New York, NY. Filed July 12, 1962, Ser. No. 209,363 1 Claim. (Cl. 2-224) This invention relates generally to secret money pockets and more specifically to secret money pockets incorporated in a wearable garment.
One object of the present invention is to provide an undershorts garment having means for secretly hiding money therein.
Another object of the present invention is to provide an undershorts garment having a secret pocket incorporated therein whereby money, preferably in bills, may be hidden. It is well known that large sums of money are lost by persons who are victims of pickpockets. Such pickpockets usually operate in crowded places, such as subways, buses, congested stores and other places. where large crowds are gathered and where the pickpocket is not generally easily recognized and where he has the opportunity to relieve a person of his wallet or roll of bills carried in the victims pocket. Other victims of such pickpockets are travellers who must sleep on trains, men quartered in large groups such as soldiers in barracks, seamen, as well as persons who are intoxicated and who would not be aware of being victimized by a pickpocket.
Accordingly, it is another object of the present invention to provide an undershorts garment whereby money may be secured in a pocket relatively close to the persons body, thereby making it impossible for a pickpocket to operate without alerting the victim.
Still another object of the invention is to provide a money safety pocket undershorts garment whereby money can be readily inserted or removed from the secret pocket thereof.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a money safety pocket undershorts garment which will not in any manner protrude or make an unsightly appearance or attract a pickpockets attention.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a money safety pocket undershorts having means whereby the safety pocket is adjustable in position from the inner side of the undershorts to the outer side thereof, thus permitting ready access thereinto when desired and affording maximum security when it is placed adjacent the wearers body when the wearer is sleeping or wishes the protection which such concealed wearing will offer.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a money safety pocket undershorts bearing the above objects in mind which is of simple construction, has a minimum number of parts, is inexpensive to manufacture and efficient in operation and use.
For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, in which:
FIGURE 1 is a front perspective view of an undershorts garment shown incorporating the present invention;
FIGURE 2 is a cross sectional-view through 22 of FIGURE 1 and looking in the direction of the arrows thereof and showing the money safety pocket in a retracted position on the inside of the undershorts;
FIGURE 3 is a cross-sectional view similar to FIGURE 2 and showing the money safety pocket in an alternate position wherein the pocket is on the outerside of the undershorts; and
FIGURE 4 is a perspective view of a billfold which may be carried within the money pocket.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, the numeral represents a money safety pocket undershorts garment according to the present invention wherein there is a boxer type undershorts garment 11 comprised of a back panel 12, front panels 13 and waist band 14. The garment is fashioned to include leg portions 15 and a crotch 16. The waist portion is comprised of a band 17 afiixed on the inner side along the upper edge of the garment.
A hinge element 18 made of cloth similar to the material of the undershorts is sewed along one edge to the inner side of the waistband 17, as shown in FIG. 2 of the drawing. The other edge of the hinge element is attached to a money safety pocket 19 made preferably of waterproof or moisture proof material, such as plastic or the like, so that perspiration from the body does not affect the money or other valuables, such as passports or other documents, carried therewithin. The money safety pocket is comprised of a front panel 20, rear panel 21, integrally attached along the bottom edge 22 and side vertical edges 23. The upper portion of the rear panel thereof may be somewhat extended so as to form a flap 24 which depends over the front side of the front panel 20, thereby forming a closure to the opening of the pocket formed along the upper edge thereof.
In operative use, the garment is worn in the conventional manner with the money safety pocket either on the inside of the undershorts adjacent the persons body, or may be worn on the outside, if preferred. If worn on the inner side of the undershorts adjacent the body, maximum security is, of course, afforded. This would prove of invaluable assistance to such persons as seamen or army personnel who could wear the garment while sleeping and thus avoid being victimized by pickpockets who would thus not be aware of the location of the money or who would be unable to reach the valuables Without disturbing the sleeper and consequently awakening the proposed victim.
When it is desired that money be removed or placed into the money safety pocket, the pocket is lifted over the edge of the undershorts and dropped over the outer side thereof, as shown in FIG. 3 of the drawing. In this position, the wearer may conveniently lift the flap and place therein, or remove therefrom, a wallet 25 containing money or other important papers.
Thus, there has been shown a money safety pocket undershorts garment which provides maximum security for paper currency or other valuable, important papers which will prevent detection by a pickpocket and which will further prevent the pilfering thereof without bodily contact with the owner, and consequently preventing loss of such money or valuable documents.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claim.
What I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States is:
In a money safety pocket undershorts garment, the combination of a pair of undershorts of boxer type comprised of a rear panel, front panel and waistband arranged to form a pair of leg portions and a crotch portion therebetween and a safety pocket aflixed to said waistband, said safety pocket being movable from a position on the inner side of said undershorts to a position on the outer side of said undershorts, said money pocket comprising a front panel and a pocket panel, said rear panels being integrally formed \along the bottom edge and opposite side edges, said panels forming a compartment therebe' tween having a mouth thereto accessible along the upper edge of said front panel, said rear panel having an extension upwardly, said upward extension fo-rming a flap and said flap depending downwardly over the front side of said front panel to close said mouth of said compartment, said safety pocket being affixed to said said waist- 0 band of said nndershorts by means of a cloth hinge, the upper edge of said hinge being attached to the inner side of said waistband along a line relatively closer to the lower edge of said waist band, whereby said safety pocket, when on the inner side of said undershorts, is below said waistband and when said safety pocket is on an outer side of said undershorts, said safety pocket is adjacent the upper edge of said waistband.
