(Cl. 22542) This invention relates to a protective holder and more particularly to a protective holder for use with a dispenser containing sheet material.

Many times during the day, in the average houshold, there is need for a sheet material such as waxed paper, aluminum foil or thin plastics. These sheet materials are used to cover jars, wrap sandwiches, line baking tins and perform numerous other functions. Often times in carrying out these many tasks a dispenser containing these sheet materials is either misplaced and cannot be located when it is urgent y needed or it is damaged due to repeated handling or by a kitchen accident, such as spilling liquids on it, and thereby rendered inoperative. The device of this invention overcomes the above disadvantages by providing a protective holder for the sheet material dispenser which can be afiixed in a central and convenient location and which afiords adequate protection for the dispenser. Furthermore, the holder of this invention is so designed that the tearing edge of the dispenser is always exposed.

The primary object of the present invention is to provide a new and improved protective holder for use with a sheet material dispenser.

Another object is to provide a protective holder which does not interfere with the tearing function of the sheet material dispenser.

The invention is illustrated in a preferred embodiment in the accompanying drawings, in which:

FIGURE 1 is a perspective view of a protective holder embodying this invention;

FIGURE 2 is an end elevational view of the protective holder with a holder secured to a vertical surface;

FIGURE 3 is a bottom plan view of the protective holder of this invention;

FIGURE 4 is a transverse sectional view showing a sheet material containing dispenser (partially broken away) in the protective holder and the relationship between the tearing edge of the dispenser and the front edge of the holder;

FIGURE 5 is a fragmentary elevational view taken substantially as shown along line 55 of FIGURE 4.

In the embodiment illustrated a protective holder device has a receptacle generally designated 10. The receptacle it has a bottom wall 11 which has upstanding therefrom a front wall 12 and a back wall 13 which are substantially parallel to each other. 16 and 17 respectively, sloping from the back wall 13 to the front wall 12. It is desirable to construct the receptacle from a sturdy light weight material such as aluminum or plastic or the like.

The receptacle 19 is open at the top to allow easy and quick placement of a sheet material dispenser within the holder and is designed to hold all of the common shapes of sheet material dispensers. As best shown in FIGURE 4, a dispenser 18 rectangular in cross-section is positioned within the receptacle with an elongated tearing edge 19 of metal or the like positioned adjacent and above the top edge 20 of the front wall 12 of the holder. Sheet material 21 is contained in the dispenser and is manually removed from the dispenser by a pulling action in the direction of arrow A. A simple downward movement cuts the sheet material at any desired length on the elongated tearing edge 19. Thus, the dispenser is adequately protected on the bottom and all sides from damage and the relationship of the tearing edge and the front wall of the holder provides that a new tearing edge is available with each dispenser, thereby never posing a problem of having a dull and inoperative tearing edge.

22 and 23 through which screws or nails can be placed to secure the holder to a vertical surface as shown in FIGURE 2. Similarly, apertures 24 and 25 in the bottom wall 11 provide for attachment to a horizontal surface. Large aperture 26 in the bottom wall 11 provides a passage through which the dispenser can be elevated and removed from the protective holder as desired or when it is empty. A shnple procedure is to insert a finger through the aperture when it is desired to remove the dispenser. Thus, the holder can be attached to either a horizontal or vertical surface and the dispenser can be quickly and easily removed from the holder.

The foregoing detailed description is given for clearness of understanding only and no unnecessary limitations should be understood therefrom, for some modifications will be obvious to those skilled in the art.

I claim:

1. A wall mountable device for removably holding rolled sheet material packaged in a parallelepiped dispenser box having a bottom and an upper front edge defining a tearing means, said device comprising: a bottom wall; a front wall extending upwardly from the bottom wall to a height slightly less than the height of the tearing means edge of the dispenser box above the bottom thereof; and means for securing said bottom wall to a vertical wall surface to define between said front wall and the vertical wall surface and above the bottom wall an upwardly opening space for removably receiving the dispenser box with the tearing edge of the dispenser box exposed for tearing the sheet material during dispensing thereof.

2. The device of claim 1 wherein said securing means comprises a rear wall upstanding from said bottom wall and having a height greater than the height of said front wall.

The device of claim 1 wherein said securing means comprises a rear wall upstanding from said bottom wall and having a height greater than the height of said front wall and terminating at its upper end in an inwardly extending element spaced above the bottom wall sub stantially the height of the dispenser box thereby to engage the rear upper edge of the dispenser box and restrain the dispenser box against pivotal movement of the top portion thereof away from the rear Wall as during a pulling of the sheet material from the dispenser box.

4. The device of claim 1 further including trapezoidal end walls upstanding from the opposite ends of the bottom wall.

5. The device of claim 1 wherein said bottom wall is provided with an opening for insertion of an element therethrough to urge the dispenser box upwardly from said space when desired.

Claims

1. A WALL MOUNTABLE DEVICE FOR REMOVABLY HOLDING ROLLED SHEET MATERIAL PACKAGED IN A PARALLELEPIPED DISPENSER BOX HAVING A BOTTOM AND AN UPPER FRONT EDGE DEFINING A TEARING MEANS, SAID DEVICE COMPRISING: A BOTTOM WALL; A FRONT WALL EXTENDING UPWARDLY FROM THE BOTTOM WALL TO A HEIGHT SLIGHTLY LESS THAN THE HEIGHT OF THE TEARING MEANS EDGE OF THE DISPENSER BOX ABOVE THE BOTTOM THEREOF; AND MEANS FOR SECURING SAID BOTTOM WALL TO A VERTICAL WALL SURFACE TO DEFINE BETWEEN SAID FRONT WALL AND THE VERTICAL WALL SURFACE AND ABOVE THE BOTTOM WALL AN UPWARDLY OPENING SPACE FOR REMOVABLY RECEIVING THE DISPENSER BOX WITH THE TEARING EDGEOF THE DISPENSER BOX EXPOSED FOR TEARING THE SHEET MATERIAL DURING DISPENSING THEREOF.
