(Cl. 128-521) This invention generally relates to a garment designed to be worn by women underneath slacks or other attire for the primary purpose of losing weight in the areas of the body which the garment covers. More specifically, the present invention relates to a novel structure for a reducing garment, wherein the reducing garment functions not only for the purpose of retaining body heat and thereby dissipating fatty tissues to reduce weight, but also in which the garment functions for the secondary purpose of acting as girdle as an aid in trimming the appearance of the wearers figure throughout the hips and waist portion of the body.

There have been, of course, many different types of girdles, panty girdles, and the like developed and sold in the past functioning for the purpose of drawing in the body, particularly in the hip area, so that this portion of the body will not seem flabby or fat to the observer. Of course, such girdles additionally serve the function of assisting the wearer in having a better posture and carriage.

To the applicants knowledge, however, none of the aforementioned garments have embodied a construction designed to not only exert pressure upon the hips and other body portions encircled by the garment, but also to serve the important function of actually sealing in body heat. Most girdles are either made of porous materials or embody porous areas whereby body heat may be dissipated therethrough. In other instances, girdles are provided with a plurality of apertures to permit breathing or ingress and egress of air.

It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide an improved dual purpose female garment, which will function not only for the primary purpose of reducing body weight in the area about which it is worn, but also for exerting a pressure on the particular body area it encircles to trim the figure and yield better posture and carriage.

Another object of the present invention is to provide a garment which is so constructed as to be air tight and thereby prevent the dissipation of body heat.

A further object of the present invention is to provide a reducing type garment, functioning also as a girdle, which will effectively retain perspiration or body moisture as Well as body heat.

Still a further object of the present invention is to provide a reducing garment which is constructed of a material such that it actually insulates the body heat from the outer air.

These and other objects and advantages of the present invention are generally achieved by providing a female garment functioning primarily for reducing purposes which embodies an integral construction having portions thereof adapted to fit snugly about the hips, waist, and upper leg portions of the female wearer. The garment is preferably formed of an unlined, solid latex rubber material, although it may be formed of any type of soft flexible rubber or other non-porous material which will exert a pressure without absorbing moisture. Also, of course, it is desirable that the material have insulating qualities.

A better understanding of the present invention may be had by reference to the drawings, disclosing merely two illustrative embodiments, and in which:

Referring now to the drawings, there is shown in FIG. 1 a reducing garment, according to the present invention which functions both for reducing and figure trimming purposes. The garment includes a Waist portion 10, a hip portion 11, and leg portions 12 and 13.

The waist portion 10 is preferably provided with a plurality of spaced ribs 14 which function to hold the garment about the mid-portion of the body so as to cover the waist of the body up to a point juxtaposed the rib cage of the wearer.

The leg portions 12 and 13 preferably extend down to a point just above the knees of the wearer.

In one embodiment of the reducing garment of the present invention, the leg portions 12 and 13 are provided with moisture guards at their free ends. Since both moisture guards are identical, a description of the moisture guard used with leg portion 13 will suflice for both. In the form shown in FIG. 1, a moisture guard 15 is provided which is connected to the bottom of leg portion 13, as by stitching 16. The moisture guard may be hemstitched at 17 and preferably comprises some type of sponge rubber or plastic sponge to absorb moisture given off by the body that may seep down within the garment to the openings in the leg portions 12 and 13.

The main portions of the reducing garment, 10, 11, 12, and 13 are formed integrally from soft flexible rubber or unlined solid latex rubber material. Although other materials may be employed, it is essential that the particular material used have certain characteristics. First of all it must exert a pressure; secondly, it must be non-porous; third, it must have a certain degree of insulating quality; and, fourth, it must be sutficiently flexible so that it can be stretched into position about the wearers body. On the other hand, it must not be so elastic that it doesnt exert the requisite pressure as heretofore stated.

It is, of course, apparent that the garment, according to the present invention is worn in the same fashion as a panty girdle, usually under slacks or other attire while the person is exercising. As a consequence of exercise, body heat is given off and the garment functions to retain the body heat and moisture due to perspiration. As a consequence of the body heat being retained, a reducing action occurs tending to deteriorate body fat tissues. It is, of course, evident that the garment will also tend to trim the figure and aid in the posture of the wearer.

The ribs 14 function to prevent sliding down or buckling down of the garment while at the same time exerting a pressure about the waist portion of the wearer from the standpoint of reducing.

In accordance with the variations of materials that may be used, as heretofore specified, it is also apparent that instead of using a solid latex rubber, a sponge rubber may be used immediately underneath the solid latex outer cover. The important characteristic, in this regard, is that the outer covering be non-porous so that the moisture cannot evaporate and the body heat will not be dissipated.

In FIG. 2, there is shown a modified embodiment in which there is provided a leg portion 18 embodying a moisture guard 19. In this instance, the moisture guard 19 is disposed within the leg portion 18 and fastened therein, for example, by some type of adhesive material. From the standpoint of appearance, it may be desirable to have the moisture guard disposed within the leg portion as in FIG. 2 rather than extending downwardly therefrom as in FIG. 1. The function, however, remains the same.
