Description

May 11, 1965 J. E. cRossMAN PAINT CAN AND BRUSH HOLDER Filed Aug. 16, 1965 2+ M 1m ,7 is I f 27 M zs' I 2si.
ATTORNEY United States Patent 3,182,943 PAINT CAN AND BRUSH HOLDER James E. Crossman, 1552 W. Van Buren, Phoenix, Ariz. Filed Aug. 16, 1963, Ser. No. 302,569 1 Claim. (Cl. 248-210) This invention pertains to an apparatus to facilitate painting and is particularly directed to a paint can and brush holder.
One of the objects of this invention is to provide a device for securely and safely holding a paint can, particularly while painting from a ladder or scaffold.
Another object is to provide in conjunction with the aforementioned device a means for supporting and holding a paint brush in a convenient position when not in use.
And a still further object is to provide a device as afore mentioned in which the brush or brushes are held so that the drip from the bristles drop directly into the paint can held by the device.
Further features and advantages of this invention will appear from a detailed description of the drawings in which:
FIG. 1 is a side elevation of the paint can and brush holder incorporating the feature-s of this invention.
FIG. 2 is a front elevation of the paint can and brush holder shown in FIG. 1.
FIG. 3 is a plan view of the paint can and brush holder shown in FIGS. 1 and 2.
As an example of one embodiment of this invention there is shown a paint can and brush holder comprising the clamp member having a clamp plate 11 having a vertical abutment surface 12 adapted to engage a surface 13 on scaffolding 14. The upper end of the clamp plate is bent over horizontally to form a horizontal member 15, the rear portion of which is bent downwardly to form the clamping screw plate member 16. A clamping screw 17 having a wing knob 18 on its outer end is threaded at 19 in the plate member 16 and has a pressure pad 20 rotatively mounted on its inner end adapted to engage the surface 21 of the scaffolding 14.
A clamp bolt 22 is fixed'in the clamp plate and extends outwardly and passes through a horizontally elongated slot 23 formed in the downwardly extending can support arm 24- to the lower end of which is fixed a can holding or supporting member 25 consisting of an annular ring piece 26 fixed to the lower end of the can support arm and adapted to surround the lower portion of a paint can 27 and having a bottom 26a upon which the can 27 is supported. The elongated slot 23 in the support arm 24 enables the can holding or supporting member 25 to be positioned either side of the clamp member 27 and clampedin desired position by the wing nut 28 threadedly carried on the clamp bolt 22 so as to position a brush in one of the brush holder spring clips in desired position over the can.
On the top surface 29 of the horizontal member 15 are mounted a plurality of spring clips 30, each adapted to 3,182,943 Patented May 11, 1955 demountably receive and hold a paint brush 31 by its handle 32 with the bristles 3021 being held over the open top 34 of the paint can 27 so as to catch any drip from the brushes 31 held in the clips 30. The elongated slot enables the can 27 to be properly positioned relative to the brushes held in the clips 30.
While the apparatus herein disclosed and described constitutes a preferred form of the invention, it is also to be understood that the apparatus is capable of mechanical alteration without departing from the spirit of the invention and that such mechanical arrangement and commercial adaptation as fall within the scope of the appendent claim are intended to be included herein.
Having thus fully set forth and described this invention what is claimed and desired to be obtained by United States Letters Patent is:
A paint can and brush holder comprising in combina tion:
(a) a clamp member consisting of,
(b) a clamp plate having a vertical abutment surface adapted to engage a surface of a scaffolding,
(c) a bent-over horizontal portion formed integral with the top edge of said clamp plate,
(d) a downwardly extending clamping screw plate formed integral with the rear edge of said horizontal portion,
(e) a clamping screw threadedly mounted in said clamping screw plate adapted to engage the scaffolding to hold said clamp plate abutment surface against the scaffolding,
(f) a clamp bolt fixed in said clamp plate,
(g) a downwardly extending can support arm having a horizontally disposed elongated slot pivotally and radially slidably mounted on said clamp bolt,
(11) a wing nut on said clamp bolt adapted to adjustably lock said can support arm to said clamp member clamp plate,
(i) a can carrying member fixed to the lower end of said can support arm including,
(i) a bottom and t (k) an annular ring surrounding the lower end of the paint can.
