Cl. 22426) This invention relates to a utility belt and more particularly to a utility belt for a roofer or the like which carries a frictional pad means in order that the user may sit on the same while wearing the belt.

Roofers frequently have to sit down while fastening shingles or the like and the padded means carried by the utility belt of the instant invention protects the roofers from the heat of the roof and from splinters while preventing him from slipping or sliding off of steep roofs.

A primary object of this invention is the provision of a utility belt of the type described which is sturdy and durable in construction, reliable and eflicient in operation, and relatively simple and inexpensive to manufacture, assemble, utilitze, and maintain.

Another object of this invention is the provision of a utility belt for a roofer or the like having a frictional pad means removably carried thereby in a position that the user may sit on the same while wearing the belt.

A further object of the instant invention is to provide a device of the type described further including means for securing the lower end of the pad means to the thighs of the user.

A still further object of this invention is to provide such a utility belt wherein the pad means are removably secured thereto.

Other and further objects reside in the combination of elements, arrangement of parts, and features of construction.

Still other objects will in part be obvious and in part be pointed out as the description of the invention proceeds and as shown in the accompanying drawing wherein:

FIGURE 1 is a front elevational view of a utility belt in accordance with the instant inventive concept with parts broken away for illustrative clarity; and

FIGURE 2 is a general transverse cross-sectional view through the belt showing certain details of the construction of the same, parts being broken away for illustrative convenience.

Similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views of the drawing.

Referring now to the drawing in general, a utility belt in accordance with the instant inventive concept is designated generally by the reference numeral and comprises basically a belt means 12 formed of any conventional material with one end 14 secured as by sewing or the like 16 to a vertical member 18 of a buckle means 20, the other end 22 of the belt means 12 being threaded about a spaced vertical member 24 over a serrated edge 26 of the same and under a U-shaped element 28 pivotally carried by pin means 30 of buckle means 20.

An enlarged pocket menas 32 can be formed of heavy duty material similar to the material of the belt means 12 having a reverted edge 34 and stitched at its seams 36 with a belt receiving loop 38 being formed at its upper end and slidably receiving the belt means 12. Nails or other such articles may be carried in the pocket means 32.

A loop means 40 may be formed of a web of the same or similar material to that defining the belt means 12 and may be secured thereto as by stitching 42 for receiving a tool such as the conventional roofers hatchet or the like.

The basic element of the instant inventive combination is the pad means 44 formed of foam rubber or other suit able material preferably having at least its rear surface defining a frictional means. The pad means 44 has an upper end removably secured to the belt means 12 as by conventional snap means 46 or the like and a lower end extending substantially below the belt means 12 in order that the user may sit on the same while wearing the belt means. A pair of grommets 48 define eyes adjacent the lower end of the pad means 44 for receiving strap means such as leather thongs 50 or the like to be tied or otherwise secured around the thighs of the user.

The use of the utility belt 10 of the instant invention will now be apparent. The belt means 12 is secured around the waist of the user by engaging the end 22 of the same in the buckle means 20 as explained hereinabove with the pad means 44 having its lower ends secured adjacent the rear of the thighs of the user by the thongs 50 or other similar means. Nails or the like may be carried in the pocket means 32 and a tool may be carried in the loop means 40. The pad means 44 will serve to insulate and protect the user when he sits on a hot or rough surface, such as a roof and the frictional properties of the same will prevent him from sliding off a steep surface. The pad means 44 may be readily removed from the belt means 12 when its use is not desired by disengaging the snap means 46.

It will now be seen that there is herein provided an improved utility belt which satisfies all of the objectives of the instant invention, and others, including many advantages of great practical utility and commercial im portance.

Since many embodiments may be made of the instant inventive concept, and since many modifications may be made of the embodiments hereinbefore shown and described, it is to be understood that all matter herein is to be interpreted merely as illustrative, and not in a limiting sense.

I claim:

A utility belt of the character described comprising an elongated body belt having one end thereof secured to a buckle by which the body belt is adapted to be removably secured about the waist of a user; a rectangular seat pad, interengageable detachable means permanently secured to said pad and said body belt by which the upper end of said pad is removably secured in fixed position to said body belt intermediate the ends thereof with the free end of said pad extending downwardly from said body belt in position for said user to sit thereon during use, a pair of eyelets formed in the lower end of said pad one adjacent each side thereof, a pair of flexible cords which are inserted through said eyelets and are adapted to be tied about the thighs of said user to maintain said pad in position behind said user; front and rear walls of flexible material stitched together along the side and lower edges thereof to form a utensil pocket open at the upper end thereof, the upper end of the said rear wall being folded back upon itself and stitched along the lower edge thereof to form an open sided loop through which said body belt extends for adjustably securing said pocket to said body belt in front of said user; and a relatively short narrow web of flexible material having the ends thereof 3 4 permanently secured to said body belt to form an open 2,829,386 4/58 Peer. ended tool holder loop. 3,062,580 11/62 Jasmin 297-4 References Cited by the Examiner FOREIGN PATENTS UNITED STATES PATENTS 5 354,464 8/31 Great Britain.
