Description

Nov. 2, 1965 E. s. TREIBER SLEEVE POCKET AND GLOVE Filed March 26, 1964 INVENTOR,
EUGENE 5. TQE/BR ATTORNEY United States Patent Office 3,214,771 SLEEVE POCKET AND GLOVE Eugene S. Treiber, Hewlett, N.Y., assignor to Treiber Brothers, Inc., New York, N.Y., a corporation of New York Filed Mar. 26, 1964, Ser. No. 354,978 7 Claim. (Cl. 2-270) This invention relates to a novel glove pocket formed in a garment sleeve and more particularly to a pocket for concealing a glove within the sleeve when not in use and wherein the glove when removed for use remains secured to the sleeve so that it cannot be lost.
In the past, attempts to conceal and secure gloves in sleeves of the outer garments, such as jackets, have resulted in ill fitting, bulky and unwieldy arrangements. In some cases the glove remained visible and presented an untidy appearance with loose ends when in the stored position and in others were not readily accessible, properly secured or did not t neatly when worn.
It is therefore the primary object of the present invention to provide a simple, neat arrangement for concealing and securing a glove or mitten within a sleeve pocket and which is easily removed and manipulated for use while remaining attached to the sleeve.
These features are achieved by a novel arrangement wherein the pocket is formed between the inner lining and outer coating layers of the garment sleeve, with a circumferential opening through the outer layer spaced from the lower end of the sleeve. A peripheral portion of the glove cuff is secured to the inside of the outer sleeve layer above the opening so that the glove extends from the opening when ready for use and is folded back entirely within the pocket when not in use. The opening is preferably closed by a zipper or slide fastener to retain the glove in a completely concealed position and provide a neat appearance.
This invention will be more fully understood and other forms and advantages will become apparent in the following description and accompanying drawings, in which;
FIG. 1 is a view of the sleeve pocket with a section of the outer layer removed to show the glove concealed therein,
FIG. 2 shows the glove extending from the open pocket in an intermediate position, and
FIG. 3 shows the glove as worn, with the sleeve tucked into the cut.
As shown in FIG. 1 a glove or mitten 10 is concealed Within the lower end of a sleeve 12 in a pocket formed between an outer coating layer 14, shown partially removed, and a lining 16. The glove is preferably formed of a hand portion 18 of any suitable material and a stretchable knitted cu" 20. One side of the cuff, along the outer periphery of the open end 24, is secured to the inside of the outer layer 14 of the sleeve 12 just above an opening 26 through the side of the sleeve. If, as in the illustrated construction, the side opening is fastened by a zipper, the edge of the cuff may be sewn to the material of the zipper. The opening 26 is positioned circumferentialy around a segment of the sleeve and spaced from the lower end 28. The lining is sewn at the lower edge of the sleeve in a normal fashion so that there is no obstruction at the side entrance 26 of the sleeve pocket. In the stored position, the hand portion of the glove extends above the cuff portion.
When it is desired to wear the glove, the zipper is unfastened and the glove slipped out, as shown in FIG. 2. As the glove is pulled from the pocket through the side of the sleeve, it pivots or folds about the portion 22 of the cuff 20 sewn to the inside of the outer layer 14 at the opening 26. In the fully extended position, the hand portion 18 hangs down below the sleeve, with part 3,214,771 Patented Nov. 2, 1965 of the cud 20 secured within opening 26 above the lower end 28, while the glove open end 24 falls freely, ready to receive a hand therein. In the final position, the hand is placed in the glove and the unattached portion of the cuff 20 is stretched around to cover the entire lower portion of the sleeve 12 which is tucked into the free end 24, as shown in FIG. 3.
In order to replace the glove in the sleeve, a reverse procedure is followed. The glove is removed from the hand and folded back into the pocket, with the zipper being fastened to secure the glove in a concealed position which provides a neat and natural appearance. It is therefore apparent that the present invention provides a novel, simplified sleeve pocket and glove construction which effectively conceals and secures the glove in an improved, less conspicous manner.
The invention may also take various other forms. Thus, for example, the glove may be made of other materials or designs such as a unitary construction having individual fingers rather than a mitten type. The glove and side opening above the sleeve end may be positioned at different locations around the periphery of the sleeve or at a slight angle and other closure devices such as buttons, snaps or elastic material may be utilized. Similarly, the glove may be secured to the outer garment layer within the pocket by other buttons or snaps. Therefore, while only one embodiment has been illustrated, it is apparent that the invention is not limited to the exact form or use shown and that many variations may be made in the design and configuration without departing from the scope of the invention as set forth in the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
1. A sleeve pocket for a glove comprising:
a garment sleeve having an outer coating an inner lining secured thereto around lower end of the sleeve,
a glove having a hand portion and a culi portion, and
a circumferential opening through a side of said outer layer, said opening having upper and lower facing edges extending around a portion of said sleeve, the entire opening being spaced from said lower end, said opening being adapted to receive the entire glove into a pocket formed between said outer layer and lining, means securing an outer peripheral edge of said cuff to said outer layer Within said sleeve above said opening so that said glove pivots on said secured edge with said hand portion being positioned above said cuff when said glove is folded back into said pocket and extends below said cut and lower sleeve end when removed from said pocket and opening, the free peripheral edge of said cuit forming an open end adapted to receive a hand.
2. The device of claim 1 wherein said cuff is formed of stretchable material and the free peripheral edge of said cuff in said extended position is adapted to receive the lower end of said sleeve.
