AMEDEE J. BENJAMIN, OF VALLEY FALLS, RHODE ISLAND.
MAGAZINE SPRING-GUN.
{ESPECIE'ICATIGN forming part of Letters Patent No.325,042, dated August 25, 1885.
(No inodcLl To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, AMEDEE J. BENJAMIN, of Valley Falls, in the county of Providence and State of lthode Island, have invented a new and Improved Toy MagazineGun, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved toy gun adapted to shoot several arrows or darts without reloading alter each shot.
The invention consists of the combination of parts and their construction, substantially as hereinafter fully set forth and claimed.
teference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, torming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure '1. is a longitudinal elevation of my improved toy magazine-gun. Fig. 2 is a top view of the same. Fig. 3 is an enlarged longitudinal sectional elevation of the magazine part of the gun. Fig. at is a cross-sectional view of the gun on the line 00 .r, Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a cross-sectional view on the line 3 1 Fig. 3.
The stock A and barrel B are made of a single piece of wood, having the usual longitudinal bore,(], and two longitudinal slots, D, extending from the bore through the sides of the barrel. In the said slots a cross-piece, E, slides in the direction of the length of thegun, and is attached to rubber or other springs F, secured to the sides of the gun at or near the middle. The rear edge of the crosspiece E is beveled downward and toward the rear.
A spring-trigger,G, is pivoted in the stock, and is adapted to catch in a notch, H, in the bottom of the cross-piece.
At the breech end of the barrel the stock is carried upward, and in it is formed a magazine, J, adapted to contain a series of arrows,
K, one placed upon the other lengthwise. The top of the magazine is closed by a slide, L.
The cross-piece E is provided on its bot-tom with a guide-lug.
The cross-piece or slide E is pulled back until the trigger G catches in the notch H, whereby the springs Fare stretched or drawn taut. The beveled inner end of the cross piece guides it under the lowest arrow, whieh will be directly in front of the cross'picce when the same is held by the trigger G.
If the trigger is pulled, the eross-piece is rcleased, and isthrown with great force toward the muzzle end of the gun, whereby the lowest dart or arrow K in the magazine is thrown out at the muzzle of the gun.
-By pulling back the cross-piece it is again passed under the lowest arrow, which can be then thrown out,and so 011 until the magazine is empty.
The slide L can be withdrawn and a fresh quantity of darts or arrows placed into the magazine.
Having thus described my in\'ention,l claim as new and desire tosecure by Letters 'Patent In a magazine toy gun, the barrel having guide-slots in the sides of its chambers and the sides of its magazine, the chamberof said magazine communicating with said barrelchamber, in combination with the cross head or piece fitted to slide in said barrel and magazine chambers and said slots, said cross-head having a shouldered notch in its lower side and connected by springs to the side of said barrel. and the trigger with its forward end engaging the shoulder of said notch and held under the action of a spring, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
AMEDEE J. BENJAMIN.
