IMPROVEMENT IN PLOWS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 32,746, dated July 9, 1861.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GANFIELD BLODGEIT, of Morrison, in the county of Whiteside, in the State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Flows; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification, in which Figure l is an isoperi metrical view, and Fig. 2 is a sectional View, showing the form or construction of the standard and the attachment of the brace to the standard and handles.

The nature of my invention or improvement consists in the improvement in the construction of the standard of the plow, and in the attachment of the beam and handles to the standard, forming a joint for the elevation or depression of the beam, and thereby regulating the depth of furrow, and in the attachment of the brace to the standard and handles, thereby firmly sustaining them, this construction and combination rendering the plow more easily and. cheaply constructed and more easily managed and gaged, and enabling the successful use of straight handles and beam.

To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my improvement, I will proceed to describeits construction, operation, and conr bination.

I construct my plow in any of the known forms, except that I construct the standard A, as shown in the accompanying drawings, of the proper height, thence projecting forward a sufficient length to form, with the beam and at the latter end of the beam, a joint of sufficient strength to attach the beam B and bandles U, the forward end of the standard being so constructed as to admit of the elevation or depression of the forward end of the beam. I

then attach and secure the handles 0 and beam B, at or near the ends and at the curve or turning point in the standard, (marked P,) by a bolt passing through the handles, standard, and beam, upon which bolt the beam acts or turns in elevatirg or depressing, for the purpose of regulating the depth of the i'urrow. I secure the forward porxion of the standard and beam together by a bolt passing through the beam and standard, and l secure the endot'the standard by the saw-toot lied plate of iron D or other uneven surface firmly attached to the beam at the end ot'the standard, this construction forming ajoint for the purpose of elevating or depressing the forward end of the beam.

To the standard A, and upon the inside, I at tach firmly the iron brace E, passingup the center and attached tothe round in the center and the handles upon each side, supporting and rendering them strong and secure, the whole contruction, arrangement, and combination rendering the plow more easily and cheaply constructed, more easily managed and gaged, and enabling the successful use of straight handles and beam.

The improvement in the construction of the standard A, in combination with the beam B, the handles 0, plate D, and brace E, all attached, constructed, and arranged substantially in the manner above described, and for the purposes specified; and I hereby disclaim the original invention of the plow and claim only an improvement as above specified.
