Description

Jan. 3, 1967 H, MAYER ET AL 3,295,530
PANTY GIRDLE Filed Dec. 51, 1964 FIG. 2 F1631 INVENTOILS` mi@ Mw( TTOR/VEKS United States Patent O 3,295,530 PANTY GIRDLE Herbert Mayer, Teaneck, NJ., and Reinhold F. Pfeiffer, Farmingdale, N.Y., assgnors to Kops Bros., Inc., New York, N.Y., a corporation of New York Filed Dec. 31, 1964, Ser. No. 422,632 Claims. (Cl. 12S- 522) The present invention relates to foundation garments and particularly to panty girdles.
Among the numerous functions of a well designed `panty girdle is that of providing the wearer with a youthful appearance while at the same time furnishing the required support. While -a youthful appearance can be imparted to the wearer in a number of ways, the most effective manner -of doing so is by defining for the wearer rounded contour lines at the buttocks region thereof.
More specifically, a most youthful appearance is imparted to the wearer when the buttocks region deiines two separate, .right and left, rounded buttocks portions with the medial line therebetween projecting inwardly.
This desirable effect has been previously obtained in the prior art by providing, at the rear of the girdle, panels having special configurations and particular stretch characteristics. Such prior art arrangements, while effective to some degree, depend for such effectiveness on an uplift of the lower part of the wearers buttocks which, in substance, forces such :lower part of the buttocks upwardly to create the twin rounded effect. Such prior art constructions have proved to be less than satisfactory because they create a certain degree of discomfort to the wearer and also because a large number of wearers have substantially at buttocks and cannot acquire the desired effect by wearing such prior art garments.
In accordance with the present invention, the desired effect discussed above is obtained without, however, imparting to the wearer any discomfort. Furthermore, the girdle in accordance with the invention, is capable of providing the desired result to almost any wearer, regardless of such Wearers physique. To accomplish this objective, the girdle `of the present invention is provided at the rear thereof with a pair of spaced independent padded rne bers of special conguration, and incorporated in the girdle in such manner as to provide the youthful rounded twin contour effect in the buttocks region with the rear medial line of the garment extending inwardly when on the wearer.
It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a panty girdle of -improved construction which imparts to the wearer a youthful appearance.
It is another `object of the invention to provide a panty girdle having means at the Irea-r thereof which impart to the wearer a pair of separate rounded contour regions in the buttocks :area thereof separated by a vertical medial line projecting inwardly of said buttocks area.
It is another object of the invention to :provide a panty girdle in which two separate and independent padded members are provided in spaced relation to each other, with a centrally vertical medial line therebetween, which collectively impart to the wearer a youthful appearance, without creating any discomfort to the wearer.
The above and other objects, features and advantages of the present invention will be more ful-ly understood from the following description considered in connection with the accompanying illustrative drawings.
I n the drawings:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a lgirdle in accordance with the invention, as it appears on :a wearers body;
FIG. 2 is a diagrammatic view illustrating the natural contour of a wearer wearing a conventional girdle;
FIG. 3 is a view similar to FIG. 2 but showing the Igirdle in accordance with the invention on the wearer;
Mice
FIG. 4 is a front view of the girdle in accordance with the invention;
FIG. 5 is a lrear view thereof with parts broken away and shown in section to better illustrate the invention;
FIG. 6 is a bottom view of the girdle in accordance with the invention;
FIG. 7 is a section along line 7-7 of FIG. l;
FIG. 8 is a perspective view of a pad used in the girdle in accordance with the invention; and
FIG. 9 is a section along line 9 9 of FIG. 8.
Referring now to the drawings, particularly FIG. 1, the reference character 10 identifies the panty girdle in accordance with the present invention.
The result obtained with the panty girdle 10 in accordance with the invention is best illustrated in FIG. 3 in which the rounded youthful appearance of the buttocks area of the wearer is clearly shown, especially by comparison with FIG. 2 which represents the same wearer with a conventional girdle 10.
Girdle 1i) in accordance with the invention is made up of two mirror-like sections 12 and 12', joined together at the front along medial line 14 and at the rear along medial line 16. Section 12, the right section, comprises a body encircling portion 18 and leg encircling portion 26 and similarly, left section 12' comprises a body encircling portion 1S' and leg encircling portion 20. The upper edges fof portions 18 and 1S' collectively dene waist band 22 which, as usual, may be provided with :a soft felt-.like linner surface to enhance the comfort along the wearers waist. Similarly, each of leg encircling portions 2t) and 20 may terminate in leg encircling bands 24 and 24', respectively, provided with a soft felt-like surface.
As best shown in FIGS. 5V and 7, section 12 is made of two layers of material, namely, outer layer 26 and inner layer 28. Similarly, section 12 is made of two layers, namely, outer layer 26' and inner layer 2S'. Outer layers 26 and 26' are secured to each other at the front of the girdle and define outer front central seam 30, and inner layers 28 and 23 are similarly secured to each other at the front of the girdle to define inner front central seam 32. Scams 3i) and 32 are separate from each other but collectively define frontmedial line 14, shown in FIG. 4. VAt the rear of the girdle, outer layers 26 and 26 are secured to each other to define rear outer seam 34, and inner layers 2S and 28 are secured to each other to define inner rear central seam 36. Seams 34 and 36 at the rear of the garment are independent of each other but collectively dene rear medial line 16 shown in FIG. 4.
The inner and outer layers are secured to each other at the waist band of the garment along seams 38 and 38', respectively, and at the leg encircling band of the garment along seams 40 and 40'.
Outer layers 26 and 26 may be made of two-way stretch material with the greater stretchability running circumferentially of the garment as shown by the arrows 42 and 42', respectively. If desired, the outer material may be made of stretch lace to impart to the garment an attractive appearance which includes an ornamental design. Inner layers 28 and 28 may similarly be made of two-way stretch material with the stretch being greater circumferentially of the garment than vertically thereof. The inner material is preferably made so as to have the surface thereof confronting the wearers body of Helancalike finish in order to prevent irritation of the wearers skin, with the surface which confronts the outer layer being power net-like to provide better support characteristics.
In accordance with the basic inventive concept of the invention, girdle 10 is provided with a pair of pads 44 and 44 in the buttocks region of the garment. As best shown in FIG. 8, pad 44 is generally shaped like a half 3. moon having a vertically extending edge 46 and a curvilinear edge 48. Pad 48 is preferably made of molded polyurethane which has been sprayed and treated to render the pad substantially waterproof and thus eliminate a spongy effect.
As shown in FIG. 9, pad 44, in its free condition, is plano-convex in configuration, having one surface 52 which is planar, while the opposite surface 54 is convex and tapers off at the edges. Pad 44 is disposed in a pocket 55 therefor which is defined, as best shown in FIGS. and 7, between inner layer 28 and a facing member 56 which is stitched thereto along lines of stitching 58 and 36 and -along the waist band. Facing member 56 is preferably made of material similar to that of inner layer 28. Pocket 55 has a shape substantially complementary to the pad which is securely held therein with t-he planar surface 52 confronting inner layer 28 and convex surface 54 confronting the facing member 56. It will be noted, though pad 44 is confined within the pocket, that there is a certain clearance between the contour edges of the pad and the contour edges of the ypocket to permit some degree of flexibility in positioning the pad in the pocket, and thus in the girdle. The upper end of the pad, as best shown in FIG. 5, is slightly below the waist band, and the lower end of the pad is positioned just slightly above the crotch region of the girdle. Pad 44', which is associated with the left buttocks region of the garment, is in all respects identical in construction to pad 44 and is disposed within pocket 55.`
The particular construction of pads 44 and 44' and the manner in which they are disposed within their respective pockets results in a garment which imparts to the wearer the general configuration, best shown in FIG.
7. In this connection, it must be noted that because of the above construction the left and right buttocks portion assume independent curvature with the medial line 16 therebetween defined collectively by seams 34 and 36 projecting inwardly. This feature is very significant as, in order to provide the youthful appearance to the wearer, the rear portion of the garment must define two separate curved portions. While the. design and kconstruction of the pads and of the girdle provide such twin curvature at the rear of the garment it may Vbe desirable to provide along seam 34 further cause the rear medial line 16 to project inwardly.
While we have herein shown and described the preferred embodiment of our invention, it will be understood that the invention may be embodied otherwise than as herein specifically illustrated or described, and that inthe illustrated embodiment certain changes in the details of construction and in the form and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the underlying idea or principles of this invention within the scope of the appended claims.
