SQUEEGEE, AND WRINGER REQEPTACLE TRAY COMBINATION SCRUB MOP,
Filed May 27, 1965 6mm 15. 20mm"? BY W549 United States Patent 3,299,458 QORIBINATION SCRUB MOP, SQUEEGEE, AND WRINGER RECEPTACLE TRAY Galen E. Royalty, 1222 Cresthaven Drive, Silver Spring, Md. 20903 Filed May 27, 1965, Ser. No. 459,271 6 Claims. (Cl. 15-1) This invention relates to an improved combination scrub mop, squeegee, and wringer receptacle tray.
An object of the inventionis to provide an improved form and construction of scrub mop, squeegee, and wringer in combination with a receptacle tray used with the mop for wringing dirty water therefrom after the mop has been operated on a floor or the like.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved scrub mop, squeegee, and wringer used with a water-containing receptacle tray for use in applying clean water first to a floor surface, after which the rnop will be used to clean the floor surface, and subsequently wrung out by engagement of a camming bead on the mop with a wringing bead flange on the receptacle tray, and the mop handle moved back and forth to express the dirty water from the mop into a separate compartment of the receptacle tray.
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved scrub mop, squeegee, and a plural compartment receptacle tray, one compartment holding clean water, and another compartment used to hold dirty water wrung from the mop after use.
A still further object of the invention is to provide an improved scrub mop, squeegee, and wringer receptacle tray which will be highly efficient in use and relatively inexpensive to manufacture and produce.
Other objects will appear as the description proceeds.
In the accompanying drawings which form a part of my application:
FIGURE 1 is a plan view of my improved plural compartment receptacle tray;
FIGURE 2 is an end View of my device;
FIGURE 3 is a partial sectional view showing my improved scrub mop and squeegee applied to the rim bead of my plural compartment receptacle tray in position to wring out the mop, taken on the line 33 of FIGURE 1;
FIGURE 4 is an enlarged detail sectional view through a portion of the receptacle tray showing the interfitting of the camming flange on the mop with the wringing flange on the said tray; and
FIGURE 5 is a plan view of my improved scrub mop and squeegee showing the handle therefor.
Like characters of reference are used throughout the following specification and the accompanying drawings to designate corresponding parts.
In carrying out my invention, I provide a plural compartment receptacle tray generally denoted by the reference numeral 1, said compartments 2 and 3 respectively used to contain clean water and dirty water wrung from the mop after being used. The tray 1 is generally rectangu lar in cross section, the sides being vertical and the upper portions of the opposite ends extending outwardly at angles of approximately 45, then bent inwardly at right angles to form the flat rims 4 which terminate in full length with the folded downwardly extending wringing flanges 5, the outwardly extending ends 6 providing the contacting surfaces upon which the sponge blocks 14 of the mop are compressed when wringing out the mop. A central partition 7 is provided between the compartments 2 and 3 and terminates a short distance below the top "ice edges of the tray 1, the adjacent portions of the sides of the tray being cut out as at 8 to form pouring spouts at the opposite sides of the tray whereby water from the compartments may be readily emptied.
The scrub mop 9 comprises a base plate 10, preferably of metal, the same having a fiat portion which supports a tubular handle 11 extending at an acute angle therefrom. A rubber squeegee 12 is mounted along one edge of the base plate 10 at a slight downward angle therefrom. The opposite or rear edge of the base plate 10 is curved upwardly as shown at 13 and is adapted to engage behind the wringing flange 5 on the tray 1 to provide a camming flange for wringing out the sponge block 14 on the bottom of the mop plate 10 when the mop handle 11 is moved back and forth.
In operation, the mop will be dipped in the clean water in the compartment 2 and then used on a floor surface, after which the mop camming surface 13 is engaged behind the wringing flange 5 on the tray 1 and the handle 11 moved back and forth to wring the dirty water from the mop into the dirty water compartment 3 of the tray.
Many minor changes in detail of construction may be resorted to without departure from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. The combination of an elongated plural compartment receptacle tray, upper portions of the opposite ends thereof being angled outwardly to provide mop squeezing surfaces, then angled inwardly and terminating in downwardly extending wringing flanges, a scrub mop and handle therefor associated therewith having a sponge block on its lower surface engageable with either of said mop squeezing surfaces, and the rear edge of said mop being curved upwardly for providing a camming engagement with said wringing flanges for wringing out the mop when the mop handle is moved back and forth.
2. The subject matter as claimed in claim 1, and said mop including a base plate upon which said sponge block is supported.
3. The subject matter as claimed in claim 2, and a squeegee on the opposite edge of said base plate from said curved upward portion at the rear edge of said base plate.
4. The subject matter as claimed in claim 1, and a partition in said tray terminating below the opposite sides of the tray.
5. The subject matter as claimed in claim 4, and the opposite sides of said tray adjacent said partition being cut out to provide pouring spouts for emptying the compartments in said tray.
6. The subject matter as claimed in claim 2, and said handle extending at an acute angle from said base plate.
