v ADAPTOR FOR A HAIR DRIER APPARATUS Filed NOV. 26, 1965 3;; 31 INVENTORL 4 155 af'lfirru/z aran .69.; A270 A/Er United States Patent 3,320,681 ADAPTOR FQR A HAIR DRIER APPARATUS Lee S. Watlington, 1204 N. Linden St., Bloomington, Ill. 61701 Filed Nov. 26, 1965, Ser. No. 509,996 6 Claims. (Cl. 34-90) My invention relates to an adaptor for a hair drier apparatus for drying wigs, brushes, hair curlers, rollers, and the like, and has for its principal object the provision of an improved construction of this character which will be highly efficient in use and economical in manufacture.
Among the principal objects of my invention is the provision of an adaptor for a hair drier apparatus having a simple and inexpensive arrangement for supporting a wig block within the hood of the apparatus, which block in turn supports a wig Within the hood for drying purposes.
Yet another and equally important object of my invention is the provision of utilizing the adaptor for supporting a basket, within which may be placed brushes, hair curlers, rollers, and the like, for drying purposes, the basket being supported within the hood of the hair drier apparatus.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings showing the preferred form of construction, and in which:
FIG. 1 is a fragmentary perspective view of a hair drier apparatus showing my invention associated therewith and in which a basket is supported by the adaptor within the area of the hood of the apparatus;
FIG. 2 is a front perspective view similar to FIG. 1 but showing an adaptor supporting a wig block within the hood of a hair drier apparatus;
FIG. 3 is a perspective View of the adaptor embodying my invention;
FIG. 4 is a sectional detail view of the same taken substantially on line 44 of FIG. 3;
FIG. 5 is a perspective view of the basket illustrated in FIG. 1.
The several objects of my invention .are preferably accomplished by the preferred form of construction shown in the accompanying drawings. In such drawings, a conventional hair drier apparatus is indicated at 10. Such drier apparatus includes a cabinet 11 Within which the working parts of the drier are confined.
Extending upwardly from the top wall 12 of the cabinet 11 is an air stack 13 which supports at its outer end portion a perforated hood 14. It is with such hair drier apparatus that my improved adaptor is associated.
As shown in the drawings, my improved adaptor includes a relatively flat base plate 15 including a top wall 16 and side walls 17. At one end portion of the top wall 16 there is formed an elongated slot 16' over which is mounted a post 18.
This post 18 includes a base 19 which is adjustably connected to the top wall 16 by means of a thumb knob 20 having a shank 21 extending through the slot 16' and threaded into a nut 21' fixedly carried by a plate 22 in turn secured to the base 19. By adjustably threading the thumb knob 20 with respect to the nut 21', the base 19 may be moved relative to the top wall 16 of the base plate 15 and fixed in an adjusted position by tightening the knob 20 against the top wall 16.
In the present instance, the post 18 comprises a plurality of wire members 23, each of which provides at its outer end portion a reduced portion 24 which is adapted to be inserted in a socket 25 formed in a wig block 26.
Formed in the top wall 16 at the inner end portion of the base plate 15 is an elongated slot 27. Formed in the side wall 17 of the base plate 15 is an elongated slot 28. A hook rod 29 is formed substantially U-shaped with one of its arms 30 provided with an angled end portion 31 fixedly secured to a carriage plate 32 arranged beneath the top wall 16. A finger knob 33 has a shank 34 which is threaded into a nut 35 carried by the carriage plate 32. By tightly threading the knob 33 against the top wall 16, the carriage plate 32 may be fixed in a predetermined adjusted position with respectto base plate 15.
The other arm 30 of the hooked rod 29 is spaced from the inner end portion of the base plate 15 and is adapted to have hooked engagement with the stack 13 of the hair drier apparatus, as shown in FIG. 2. When the hook rod 29 is in hooked engagement with respect to the stack 13, the inner end portion of the base plate 15 will rest upon the top wall 12 of the cabinet 11 and be thereby supported in a substantially horizontal position. The end of the base plate 15 which abuts the stack 13 is provided with a soft pad 15' which prevents marring the stack 13. Also, the arm 30 carries a rubber sleeve 41 to guard against marring the side of the stack 13 which it engages.
When the adaptor is attached to the apparatus 10 in the manner shown in FIG. 2, a wig mounted on the wig block 26 will be supported within the hood 14 for drying operation.
In order to provide a simple arrangement for drying brushes, hair curlers, rollers and the like, I provide a perforated basket 36 which provides a socket 37 through the medium of a pair of spaced discs 38 carried by wire links 39 secured to the basket as, at 40. When this basket 36 is used, the reduced portions 24 of the post 13 will be projected into the socket 37 provided by the spaced discs 38. The basket 36 when supported on the post 18 in the manner shown in FIG. 1, will be disposed within the hood 14 to subject the brushes, hair rollers, curlers, or the like, to the drying operation.
By this arrangement I provide an adaptor for not only drying wigs but one which when not used for that pur- .pose, may be used for drying brushes, hair rollers, curlers, and the like, by merely substituting for the wig block 26, the basket 36.
My improved adaptor can be manufactured at a very economical cost and is highly practical and efiicient in use.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention, 1, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
