(Q1. 345) This invention relates to a curler bonnet and has as its primary object the provision of a bonnet which may be worn by a woman with her hair in curlers, particularly the large curlers currently in use, while in bed, in order to relieve or alleviate the discomfort occasioned by the pressure of the curlers against a pillow or the like.

An additional object of the invention is the provision of a device of this nature which may be inflated with air to provide a cushion between the head and its surrounding curlers and the pillow, thus evenly distributing the pressure and rendering the wearer of the curlers more comfortable.

Still another object is the provision of a device of this character which will permit circulation of air between the bonnet and the head so that the hair may dry normally during the night.

Still another object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character which in one embodiment thereof is provided with heat-generating chemical crystals which will promote and accelerate the drying of the hair during sleep.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character which is relatively ornamental in nature and design, so as to avoid the unsightly appearance of the curlers in the hair of the wearer.

Still another object of the invention is the provision of a device of this nature which is sturdy and durable in construction, reliable and efiicient in operation, and relatively inexpensive to manufacture.

Other objects Will in part be obvious and in part be pointed out as the description of the invention proceeds and shown in the accompanying drawings wherein:

FIGURE 1 is a perspective view of one form of bonnet embodying the instant inventive concept shown on the head of a wearer;

FIGURE 2 is an enlarge-d fragmentary sectional view through one form of bonnet incorporating the instant inventive concept;

FIGURE 3 is a fragmentary sectional view taken substantially along the line 3-3 of FIGURE 2 as viewed in the direction indicated by the arrows; and

FIGURE 4 is a view similar to FIGURE 2 showing a modified and simplified form of construction.

Similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views of the drawing.

Having reference now to the drawing in detail, one form of bonnet constructed in accordance with the instant invention is generally indicated at 10, and is of a size and dimension to completely cover the hair of the wearer W when the hair is put up in curlers, for the purpose of imparting a wave or curls there-to.

The bonnet constructed in accordance with the instant invention is comprised of an inner layer 11 of soft absorbent porous material, which is placed immediately adjacent the hair, and which cushions and covers the general contour of the curlers. Immediately adjacent inner layer 11 is a second layer 12 which constitutes a bag, comprised of inner and

outer thicknesses

13 and 14 respectively of foraminous material, the layers being cross- "ice stitched as at 15, and best shown in FIGURE 3. Between the

13 and 14 are heat-generating or disseminating chemicals crystals of any desired conventional composition. The crystals are evenly distributed throughout the bonnet, and are maintained in position by the cross-stitching, the crystals being indicated generally at 17.

Superposed on layer 14 is an inner layer of plastic rubber or similar air-impervious material, which forms the inner layer 18 of an air pocket the outer layer of which is shown at 19. A valve 20 is suitably positioned preferably at the top of the bonnet, and is concealed by an artificial flower 21, or other similar ornament.

18 and 19 are connected as at 22 in sealed relation by vulcanizing or the like, while the

13 and 14 may be similarly connected at 23, although air impermeability is not necessary, and the inner soft absorbent layer 11 may be connected throughout its extent, or only at the edge in any desired manner to the layer 13, as indicated at 24. The edge of the bonnet is rolled or stitched as at 25, the arrangement being such that it fits relatively loosely so that air will penetrate between the innermost layer of the absorbent material 11 between the head and through the hair so that the hair will dry in the normal manner.

A modified and simplified form of construction is shown in FIGURE 4 wherein there is provided a cap generally indicated at 30, and comprised of an inner layer 31 and an outer layer 32, of air-impervious material such as soft flexible rubber or plastic, the edges of the inner and outer layers being vulcanized or otherwise sealed together as at 33 and rolled as at 34 to facilitate positioning of the cap on the hair. An inflation valve 35 of conventional type is provided at the top of the cap or other desired location, and is concealed by an ornamental flower 36 or other suitable ornament. In this modification as in the foregoing the cap may be inflated by means of a valve, either by mouth or by a small pump, and the cap positioned over the hair encased in curlers so that the air cushion formed between

31 and 32 forms a space which will accommodate the curlers, so that the wearer may lay her head on the pillow with a minimum of discomfort. Here again is provided between the inner layer 31 and the head of the user to permit normal air to pass therebetween during sleep, so that the hair will be normally dried.

From the foregoing it will now be seen that there is herein provided an improved curler bonnet which accomplishes all of the objects of this invention, and others, including many advantages of great practical utility and commercial importance.

As many embodiments may be made of this inventive concept, and as many modifications may be made in the embodiments hereinbefore shown and described, it is to be understood that all matter herein is to be interpreted merely as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.

I claim:

1. A curler bonnet comprising in combination spaced inner and outer layers of fluid tight material connected along the edges thereof in airtight relation to form a shaped double layered bonnet which is contoured loosely to fit the head of a wearer and so dimensioned as to fit over curlers in the hair, and valve means in the outer layer thereof to permit the filling 0f the space between the layers with air to serve as an air cushion to cushion the effect of the curlers on the head of a wearer while sleeping wherein an inner foraminous bag is positioned 3 interiorly of and secured to said inner layer and heatgenerating chemical constituents are positioned in said bag.

2. The structure of claim 1 wherein said bag is crossstitched to retain an even dispersion of said chemical constituents.

3.The structure of claim 2 wherein a further inner layer of soft flexible cushioning material is provided.

41 The structure of claim 3 wherein said last-mentioned layer is foam rubber.

5. The structure of claim 4 wherein said cap is contoured to fit loosely about the head of the wearer to permit the passage of natural air between the innermost layer and the head to dry the hair.

Claims

1. A CURLER BONNET COMPRISING IN COMBINATION SPACED INNER AND OUTER LAYERS OF FLUID TIGHT MATERIAL CONNECTED ALONG THE EDGES THEREOF IN AIRTIGHT RELATION TO FORM A SHAPED DOUBLE LAYERED BONNET WHICH IS CONTOURED LOOSELY TO FIT THE HEAD OF A WEARER AND SO DIMENSIONED AS TO FIT OVER CURLERS IN THE HAIR, AND VALVE MEANS IN THE OUTER LAYER THEREOF TO PERMIT THE FILLING OF THE SPACE BETWEEN THE LAYERS WITH AIR TO SERVE AS AN AIR CUSHION TO CUSHION THE EFFECT OF THE CURLERS ON THE HEAD OF A WEARER WHILE SLEEPING WHEREIN AN INNER FORAMINOUS BAG IS POSITIONED INTERIORLY OF AND SECURED TO SAID INNER LAYER AND HEATGENERATING CHEMICAL CONSTITUENTS ARE POSITIONED IN SAID BAG.
